  • Working on this bike and wanted to show you what we look for when we have stripped everything down and can see all the problems we need to fix. We get a list together, get authorization from the owner and get to work. In this job we look at:
    Canyon Strive with Shapeshifter technology
    Fox 36 Forks
    Fox DPX2 Shock
    DT Swiss Hubs
    Enduro Pivot Bearings
The tool used to measure the disc rotors.

Great teardown. Bike is pretty clapped + needed some proper TLC.
Would be great to have a follow up vid of the finished product and if possible, the customers impression after their first ride on the refreshed rig. Always great to see the "oh my god, why didn't I do this wayyyy sooner?!" moments.

Pretty filthy indeed! Pretty and filthy...
I assume you have to give the old shapeshifter to the customer back so that it will be forever forgotten in the attic. Or could you kindly ask to keep and try to rebuild it during your spare time?
About the fork, it looks rather that you released the pressure too quickly and negative chamber did not have enough time to equalize with the atmosphere. It's not a scratch there but a dedicaded bypass port. But knowing FOX, there must be scratches nevertheless. Needless to say you can't just take out the circlip before you decompress the negative chamber, but still gonna say it.

    • @Mapdec

    • @feedbackzaloop

Ich würde gerne die Lager unten überprüfen, habe aber nie die Kurbel entfernt und das Spiel der Kurbel eingestellt. Oder muss man da kein Spiel einstellen? @Mapdec I have RockShox 35 Gold fork that is still sticky after lower leg service, but the air spring and damper rods are smooth, so it looks like there is some issue with the lower leg bushings. I've found that other people also had similar issues with this fork and some even say that this can be caused by poor tolerances or faulty bushing installation from the factory. Did you have a chance to see that, too? Are the bushings replaceable in this model and if yes, what would be the estimated cost of that? Is replacing the lower legs with Pike / Revelation (also 35 mm) which should have better bushings a viable solution?

    • @Mapdec

Yes, those are all possibilities. Sometimes just resetting the bushings will help.

    • @bikepackingadventure7913
      @bikepackingadventure7913 Год назад +1

@@Mapdec at least start somewhere. Do a bit of maintenance by learning and get a few tools, try some more maintenance by learning and get the tools for that and repeat over period of time as knowledge growls and range of tools.
This is a good solution instead of potentially allowing a persons bike to essentially fall apart and when to you take it too a bike shop it needs a full rebuild and service with a huge bill.
This is what I’ve done and I’m progressing onto wheel building. I can strip and reassemble hubs and replace bearings with no issue now, but actual building wheels is the next challenge I will be trying.
Obviously these skills and knowledge is invaluable when out on a ride when you have to fault find and repair when no one else is around to help you.
