Hi Dave, I'm a 25 year old learning how to swim and your videos have tremendously helped me. Thank you so much!

Thank you !!! I realize that this IS the root cause in my technique ... , and having watched hundreds of videos, really for first time explained for an average swimmer like me to realize ...

@@DaveScott Same problem for me too, I was so sad after watching my recorded videos and I've found the exact issue whatt you've described in me, elbow dropping first and hands extended so far for max pull, today I'm gonna try your steps and see what I can do. Thanks for the tips sir.

Dear Mr Scott, It is like it was yesterday when I read in the Triathlete magazine that you had almost caught Greg Welch in Hawai in 1994. You look almost the same. In the 80s, my father and I used to watch on TV the battles among you, Mark Allen, Scott Tinley and Scott Molina once per year in Hawai (back then in Argentina there was no cable tv, off course no internet and we had to wait until the next Hawaian Ironman broadcast on public TV). That was how my father decided to buy bycicles for everybody in the family and we used to ride 50k every Saturday and Sunday. I am glad that you are still in the business. Best regards.

I'm still swimming, biking & running, Sergio... I hope that you're sticking with it, too!

Dave Scott Yeah, mountain biking, a bit of slow jogging, open water swimming and dry-land training (a mix of yoga and body weight training). Getting into my late forties and life responsabilities have made me to slow down. Thanks for replying! I can check "meeting" Dave Scott from my bucket list! Go figure! :-)

I am a bit confused. At one time I noticed you say to enter the hand in neutral position, at other times you say to enter with hand flat on the water ?

Neutral wrist with flat entry 👍

2:05 wouldnt she be faster if she woul pull underneath her body rather than left and right from her like in this video?

      Patrick
Pull pattern and maintaining a wider pull pattern is generally more effective. However, if the hand and arm slide too wide on the front end, the core and back strength are sure signs of this weakness. Quite often if the hand pitch is very slightly turned inward this offsets a dramatic outward slide and thus cuts down on a super wide pull pattern.
She is a bit wide. Visualize an eyeball on your palm and after the initial entry and beginning the high elbow set, the eye ball should look at the opposite toes. i.e. Right hand entry the “ eyeball” on your palm should look at your toes.
A slight subtlety in hand pitch will keep the arm from wandering too wide and at the same time minimize a dramatic crossing over the midline on the pull pattern.
      I hope this helps.
      Dave

Just wondering why in the last few minutes of the clip (which is very clear and succinct) your swimmer is only swimming with one fin 3:18-3:25. im adjusting (but getting better) my stroke to keep the elbows high though it does start to get hard as i start getting tired.
    cheers

      Gareth!
You’re right on with your point! Using a single fin provides stability to practice the entry. You can linger longer on the front end, move the hand wider, get a high elbow set by using a fin and paddle on opposite hands and feet.
You’ll also notice the asymmetry with the choices: 1. single paddle 2. single fin 3. one paddle and one fin on opposites 4. both paddles and both fins.
Give them all a try to help improve your stroke!
      Best Regards and thank you.
