When you forgive student debt, you create more paths to home ownership for people, and when you have more first time homebuyers, that allows move up, buyers to sell their house to first timers and then those who are empty nesters can sell their house to those who are selling their second house. It just greases the wheels and benefits everybody at every level of the housing industry. When you reduce the Buyer pool for houses you keep prices high. So this is a great way to stabilize prices too.
Was with you at first. But no, reducing Buyers does *not* keep prices high. High demand (buyers) means higher prices, as sellers have many people who want their product.
There has always been a program for people in public service, but it has been administered in such a way as to make it virtually impossible to qualify for. Fixing this is one of the way Biden has been relieving debt. If you know a teacher who hasn’t had debt relief, suggest that they try again/look into it. It’s definitely a group the administration is already working to help.
Yes, and President Biden is doing everything he can with the power we have to relieve student debt for educators. This is crucial to incentivizing young people to choose careers that conservatives have been targeting for years. Public education is in crisis, and the Biden administration can only resolve it if we gain the majority and prevent another 4 years of Republican sabotage.
Most people consider me liberal, but I have to say canceling student debt without doing anything stop colleges from charging so much does absolutely nothing and screw over people who never went to college. Love the policy debate! ❤ "You want to listen to someone who will tell you what you want to hear. Or do you want someone who will tell you what you want to hear most of the time." So good and so true 😆
Capitalism works best with a strong middleclass and the government has a long history of building up the middleclass. A big part of that has been paying for education. The GI bill paid for college for ww2 vets (and gave them low-cost home loans). This brought a lot of people into the middleclass and fueled the post-war economic boom. In recent decades, college costs have gone way up, in part because of reduced government investment, and at the time, the middleclass has been shrinking, so it makes sense to have the government consider lowering the cost of college education for current students and helping with the debt of recent graduates (especially if it's means-tested relief). Under-regulated, predatory for-profit schools are also responsible for a lot of student debt.
Tim, did you ever think that Biden is getting rid of college debt, not to get votes but to help people? Are you so jaded that that isn't even a thought?
Maybe he thought that if you're just going to give away a few billion dollars to help people, you can target it towards low income earners and not college degree holders, which on average make about a million dollars more in their lifetime than non college degree holders. That would of course help all the people with student debt that didn't actually graduate or that are stuck in low income earning careers, while skipping all the people who, yes, have some debt, but are now earning 6 figures and on track to pay it off within a few years and then start building a net worth that most people who never even got to go college could ever dream of. At least Biden gets that, which is why he put into his speech and his plan money for non college students and degree holders as well. And maybe Tim is also thinking that debt forgiveness is just another way that college administrators can keep charging ever more ridiculous tuition, and students can keep getting into ridiculous debt, and hey, maybe if they elect the right president, they'll get it all forgiven on the taxpayer's dime anyway. And maybe Tim is thinking that student debt forgiveness is the kind of no-win program electorally, because even though it probably won't buy Biden any votes, it would almost certainly lose him votes if he didn't do it because it would be a broken promise to one his core demographics; college educated professionals that still aren't quite as rich as they think they ought to be. Meanwhile, Biden has lost ground with other, equally important demographics, especially working class men that don't have a college degree, and they're wondering what good voting for Biden does for them, and maybe Tim Miller is worried about that too because whether you agree or disagree that the best possible use of several billion dollars is to put it towards paying off the debts of college educated professionals, I'm sure everyone here agrees that the most important thing is making sure Trump is annihilated at the ballot box and the time is rapidly approaching for Biden to start putting all of his thought and effort into that.

Hey, Tim Miller! Glad you’re so privileged that you can’t understand the crushing burden of student debt - not just for people who didn’t get the “right” degrees, but for folks who had to drop out or went to for-profit universities. That’s why Reagan Republicans make me sick - the inability to feel empathy for other people’s passions and mistakes. Good for you that you only care about money and votes, and you’ve never made a mistake or pursued genuine knowledge. Such a Reagan sentiment, to enjoy others’ suffering and think it benefits you in the zero-sum economy you’re desperate to wish into existence.
Tim, I agree with you completely about that. It would be really good to have some teachers and college professors and even students to speak with Biden, he needs to interact with the people.
I would love for this to be an ongoing feature. The collegially combative energy between Jon and Tim is perfect for a sports-show format and I love the focus on rhetoric (particularly as someone with a bachelor's in creative writing and an MBA, who I think we can all agree does not deserve debt relief).
Who paid for Tim to go to college? Did he work full-time and enroll full-time while he took out high interest student loans (like me and millions of other college graduates)?
I work at a university and back when I went to college they always told the parents to never take out a Parent Plus loan, now we see them all the time.
Tim is the guy who will vote for Biden to get rid of Trump, but as soon as Trump is gone, he will vote for Trump's replacement as long as he or she pretends to be a nicer Republican.
While I understand the cynicism and Tim's take on certain things like student debt relief is, frankly, bad, you clearly don't consume much if any of his other content. He is extremely critical of the entire modern Republican party, including plenty of supposedly "nicer" / "normie" / "more moderate" / etc. Republicans and his stance on the vast majority of issues these days falls pretty clearly in the "moderate liberal" / "centrist Democrat" part of the political spectrum. It would be extremely surprising to see him go back to voting Republican any time soon. He just occasionally still sounds like a Republican to those of us progressive lefties.

Ship ship!!❤
😂 they both have partners
@@matthewmonk3554 That's never stopped people from shipping before, why start now? 🤣
I'm glad my debt from 25 years ago was cancelled :), even though it was almost paid off.
I love you guys
I can’t even tell you the amount of enjoyment I get outta some great Trump roasts. Thanks, guys! Would love to see this a regular thing.
I love these discussions! More of this (outside our ideological bubble) discussions!
Who paid for Tim to go to college? Did he work full-time and enroll full-time while he took out high interest student loans (like me and millions of other college graduates)?
I work at a university and back when I went to college they always told the parents to never take out a Parent Plus loan, now we see them all the time.
On student debt, Miller is just jealous, that's it.
When I move to louisiana, I definitely want to meet up with tim, I appreciate his honesty
MORE TIM MILLER PLEASE 😁👍
That was fun. I would love to go see these two live in Austin
Love this format!!
Yes, I love this! ❤❤❤
These fantastic Bulwark / Crooked crossovers give me life! Love these two! (could’ve done without the distracting music in the background, but I get what you were going for, sports are great too☺️)
this was awesome.
Loved this banter👏👏👏
This is a great pairing.
After the birth? Besides in a dungeon somewhere, where is this performed?
This was awesome!
Wow you came back on Tim with real facts I wish I could do that comfortably when I personally face a Republican. But I always second guess myself on the facts
