Morning Merrill! The bullet at 29:50 is what's called a "wad cutter", they're commonly used in target shooting competitions because they make a nice, neat round hole in paper/cardboard for easier scoring by a judge. Happy hunting!
Merrill, i missed the premier. But man I am loving my deus 2. I have dug so many cool thing with it. Today was no exception. I got 3 silvers in one day. A 1900 O Morgan silver dollar, a 1907 Barber quarter, and 1918 SLQ!!!! They are amaizing machines. This was one of my best days ever!!! Keep up the great work!
Greg do you think if you were using the last detector you used, you would not have found those great coins? Six months ago, I dug a 1921 Morgan that was at least 9 inches deep with my NOX 800, in dry dirt.
My Nox has found many non-ferrous things with iron attached. I just pulled a wheat that was under 3 nails in my last vid. It's really good at hearing past iron.
Merrill, that was a great pull. I have a few things to say about the Deus tho. First, that silver quarter covered by a rock was interesting. With my nox, I have had the same thing happen to me, rocks throwing off signals. When I dug out a test garden and buried a large cent, the signal always sounded like iron. When I finally dug it back up, there was a rock next to it, and after removing it the signal sounded normal. That issue wasn’t present on the d2 obviously. Also, when hunting older sites with modern contamination, try using full tones in the square program. It sounds like the nox with Deus tonal nuances. Great hunt! -Wil
Side silver quarter would have sounded better with the 11" coil on the Nox. 15" coil on the nox is not a fair example when comparing pinpoint targets deep. 11" should be compared to 11" coils for more accurate comparisons.
Switch that deep HC into five tone and then switch it into square tones you will hear some familiar equinox sounds. Also will help eliminate some of the mid-range junk from the actual good targets
I know you've been told by now. It's a toe tap. I'm watching this and thinking the same things you are as I learn this new machine. Still having trouble with deep iron fooling me. I mostly use deep hc, fast and senci ft. Thanks for sharing. 🤙🏼Chris 🤙🏼
Hi Merrill I’m from the uk - I use Nox 800. I’ve noticed with silver on the edge that field 2 / park 2 would hit it vs using field 1 which doesn’t always. Field 2 and Park 2 more sparky but work great at silver on the edge. Just a thought.
Coming from someone who has well over a year on the equinox and well over a year on the deus 1 in my opinion there's a huge difference especially in the separation department. The deus has absolutely cleaned up behind my equinox on a lot of permissions especially in heavy iron and heavy trash. Now having the D2 and getting some decently serious hours in on it I can say it is completely different from the equinox and the D1 it is definitely much deeper than both but still separates I'd say as well as the D1 when it comes to heavy trash and with the Deep High conductor program with full tones and square tone you can almost duplicate The equinox same with the five tone program and square tones if you like the equinox sound. High School place The equinox above the legend the legend has some quirks as far as not being able to see silver at depth 100% of the time it gives a lot of false low tones and sometimes no tones requiring multiple swings at times to get a signal on Deep silver amongst other quirks they still need to be worked out I would still take the equinox 800 or 600 over the legend at this point. So for me the D2 would be on top. The equinox and the D1 would be tied for different reasons the D1 being the better separator and much better in trash especially iron the equinox being better in Open Fields and much easier to use(less experience needed) in parks, I would put them tied at 2 and the legend coming in at 3
I designed metal detectors in the early 70s. My tests show the Equinox beating the Deus1 in separation in iron by a country mile. You must have the wrong settings on the Nox I suspect . I tested both using 9.5x5 elliptical coils. My Nox beat my Deus 1 and the Deus scanned the area first and missed almost every artefact. I did set the recovery to 7 or 8 on the Nox in the iron infested test area which gives the required recovery speed. You can’t use the factory standard settings. 11” coils do not work among dense iron. I would never take the Deus 1 into dense iron. However the Deus 1 can do well in magnetic soil if the iron is not too dense. Choosing the right machine and coil type is critical as are the settings and modes. I use both machines and swap about when needed.
@@oldplucker1 this is been the findings of no one not one expert on the forefront of today's detecting says this I do a lot of technical testing the reason why I'm sponsored by the United States largest metal detector showroom store. That deep signal was a toe tap or heel tap. Good pull. The bottom of the cane could be a measuring weight. The thing on the end of the Liberty Dime Woman's stick is actually her 'Liberty Cap' - not a hobo bag.
Regarding the lock with the brass key hole cover, that piece of brass was very solid/ dense piece. I’m not surprised that it was detectable with the Nox!
Good hunt, I will give you tip with the deus 2 I have had it for a few months now and have done a lot of testing and hunting with it. I wouldn't recommend hunting in full tones on ground with a lot of iron any coins close to iron will be over whelmed by the iron, I have found this out with the elevated nail test. I find a discrimination of 6 and 3 tones gives separation but only in general and sensitive. I always hunted in full tones with the deus 1.
On the quarter, do you think the larger coil was impacted by mineralization overloading the detector? Was there something else in the hole? Maybe one reason the 11 inch got it when the 15 couldn't. I just got a Deus II too, so glad to see that pull!
It may have but, not certain!......I know that when I used the 15" at the beach you definitely had to cut the sensitivity back to stabilize it........I found out real quick that D2 beat my 800 at the beach though........So, I no longer have an equinox.....D2 is good!...You will see!
Hey there Martin! The thing is we have ALL pounded this ground with multiple equinoxes. SOmetimes with the stock coil. None of us got it. It could just be coincidence but the deus made it crystal clear.
Can I also suggest trying the X-Y screen for your next hunt? You want to see a straight line from bottom left to top right. That combined with the HOT program on a field should be ACE!
Awesome Seated dime, only found 1 dime since detecting for years, but have found 5 Seated Quarters 😅 very interesting with the new machine, can it beet my Nox 🤔
I hunt with the same settings as Jeff but I just leave my recovery at 4. However I hunt in 15khz. There isn't a piece of metal that can hide from 15khz. Last year I dug over 7K coins with those settings.
Jeffs coil being big, straddled the iron and target causing conflicting signals. I use field 2 and special below zero notching and zoning. But also 15kHz too. Also I would have set the iron bias lower. But the Deus II is impressive in wide open areas like that. But what about in double machine gun iron with only 4 inches or less between iron and ferrous targets very close to old properties? 500 year old relics come up there if the coils are narrow enough to get in between.
Great video! We been comparing the nox v the D 2 and have also been coming across that iffy signal Dave was getting with his nox. I'm no fan boy I want what producers. I wouldn't care if Joe blow from heyboy corner created a detector in his / her back yard. Just as long as it's is producing consistent accurate results and thec D 2 is doing it. The XY screen tells me everything once I learned it. It's a very good program.
great hunting man.. i followed closely the deus 2 vs equinox comparism on youtube, metal detecting forum. Here I found live dig proof that in line with mr herschback from detector prospector forum which he said that deus 2 is superior on high conductor. Now Im looking for live dig proof on low conductor that shows deus 2 is much better than the nox before I make buying decision. Thank you for the video man. Im wondering why xp did'nt make the Deep LC dedicated mode like Deep HC mode.
Those flat bullets are called wad cutters, made for punching holes in paper targets/practice. Cheaper and no copper jacket. Popular with .38 ,.357, &.44 mag.
Next time, you pin point on a quiet doubtful signal on equinox....that, deus can ear, switch to gold mode, (horse shoe) iron off first , and try, then engage iron...and read the screen number...If switch no negative....it s iron....If move 15 to neg....could be big iron, nice curve nail...or cast iron....but iron. I find the noise annoying on gold 2 mode....but I find the I.D work good to determine if iron or not. I know, people will say..can t use gold mode in park.....but on a quiet field....work so good, but you need to check more on the screen number than the annoying sound. Also...I notch nothing, then, compare with Deus..and dig. Was it iron...or not.....last week, a real 2, 1721, and i still dig the strong iron anyway...could be a trade axe...or a part of tool, but work well on lead, brass buckle and coins for sure....and sadly, aluminum .
So w\ Deus 2 u got it when u skimmed the ground (not how people detect prob)…that’s probably not as close as Jeff was holding his Nox to the ground… u only did that bc u had it marked 🎯 BUT keep in mind, he still found it with the Nox & the Deus was a little sketchy/skippy/scratchy/not clear sound, and just think if u raised the Deus to Normal levels above the grass. Maybe exact same or Nox beat it. Would be a good test- tying gold rings 💍 to strings in the wet tidal zone at beach 🌊 , mark with super glue and a sharpie on the string for 12inches, and 18inches. I got a 4.5gram 14k white gold diamond ring being tested in the tidal zone 🏖 and with it maxed out on 1 tone and such, the Nox600 got the gold ring 💍 at 20inches just barely- thays max depth for it. Definitely got it at 18to19inches (stock coil), so dont hangout the Nox just yet, as the Douche I mean the Deus2 may be too noisy in the wet sand and just as deep maybe as the Nox. U need to do Gold ring String tests in the tidal zone at the beach, with Nox being on sensitivity 25 of course when testing, beach1 mode has a bigger magnetic 🧲 field, so u get about 1.5inches deeper maybe that beach2. But beach2 is good about not having to discern all the falsing beeps 🌊 … I want to get the new Mindlab thatll come out, should be interesting to see the price too and how deep it goes
Merrill, I hate to say anything, but, I'm wishing you were calling out the numbers as you swing. That 8 or 9 inch quarter, what were the numbers, if you don't mind me asking. I have been doing great with my Deus II. I don't notch anything out. What I do is, 61-63 is loud, and 91 and above is loud, everything else is quiet. I will probably never find gold but, I have been digging a lot of nickles and silver coins. I use this pattern for parks and permissions (homes) only. I have my NOX 800 set up the same way. I am beginning to love my Deus II, more than my NOX 800. But the jury is still out. I can't say I've been to my park and found silver that I missed with the NOX, but in new places, sites, I'm loving this machine. I am retarded when it comes to technology, so I drove 200 miles and The Hunter G T updated and programmed it for me. If your gonna pay $1,600.00 for a machine, a 200 mile one way trip is worth it. At least for me, I'm loving this machine now. Thank you THGT. Oh, I wanted to say, I got a 99 on my Deus, and about six inches down, TWO SILVER QUARTERS 🙂.
Hey I’m new to your channel and I haven’t noticed a white s specta v3i in your arsenal! Any reason why ? I have one and I’m always looking for some new tricks to learn!
Eliminate as in notch? Yes. Eliminate as in separate targets exquisitely? Yes. Eliminate as in have various volumes to set for different targets? Yes. Eliminate as in have ground tracking? Yes to a certain extent but the technology is different. The Nox tracks and averages the ground. The Deus effectively manages the nuances of changing ground, but it does it differently. Minelab came out with a lot of literature on this topic. I’m yet to see any from XP.
@@MetalDetectingNYC On the Nox I can set different tones and volumes for real iron and Ground Iron Oxide all below 0 zones. And using notching also below 0, I can switch the ground oxide chatter in and out using the horse shoe. On an open field finding oxide in the ground can point to human habitation in the past. When I find the area I switch off the ground chatter with one button push to just hear the iron and non ferrous. I could not do this on the D1. Can you show the D2 doing this. Cheers from England. Also the Nox completely outclasses the D1 in dense iron both with the small elliptical coils. The guys here saying the D1 is better in iron must be setting up the Nox wrong. With the small elliptical coil the Nox kills it in dense iron terrain. I am talking about real iron every 6 inches and 9 iron objects to each hole. Serious iron! and the Nox pulls real non ferrous artefacts too. Dense iron is a sign of dense human habitation. Auto ground tracking has to be off in dense iron, you can’t use it. ! Perhaps that is the problem (and sensitivity has to be lowered to go deeper)👍
Not counting edge of detection signals, what I'm seeing after 30+ hrs if D2 skips, hitches, gets mushy at all its junk! If it's a good signal with ground mineral bars popping its iron
you should do a new updated beach video withe Legend detector I just heard they did a brand new beach update to it that made it a million times better on the beach.
though I had some problem with sea water It also ruclips.net/user/postUgkxa-FNYUOM93a388gi9a4brtSCEVmrHgJH land for finding any things very easily. (thought it would work as normal due to it being water proof within certain parts of the detector), on dry land and sand worked well. My first one, so still have lots to learn
Double Vv Digging in AZ, Merrill I think 🤔 you are becoming tone def lol, as best I can tell when you call a good signal I hear breaking up, which to me is iron, and you pull it and low and behold, it's iron. Your ears are being dupted by multiple machines. Pick one and GO GO GO. Just my opinion 🤷.
Hey Merrill, love your vids but what about digging relics around the oldest buildings in New York? Where are your 500 year old finds? At the moment you only do open spaces like parks and beaches. To properly test detectors they should be tested in various conditions. 1) Beaches 2)Ploughed fields (rough and smooth) 3)Fields after harvest with stubble 4)Pasture 5)Parks 6)Around old buildings or where they once stood 7) Rocky areas 8) Streams and rivers At the moment you only mainly do 1 and 5 as far as I remember seeing 👍👍👍
If this is the way you swing your detector, you haven’t learned much in ten years. By the way, I routinely still dig coins 7+ inches with my Explorer which is 15 years old. I would like to see you dig a coin say 1 foot, then I would be impressed.
I don’t make videos to impress you or anyone John. You will never hear me claim to be the best detectorist on the planet. But you, Dora and your Explorer can go keep impressing yourselves! 😂
@@MetalDetectingNYC I’m just saying, if you are going to make detecting videos and attract people like me who are detecting enthusiasts, you should at least swing a detector as if you knew what you are doing.
I don’t know about anyone else but for some reason I’m getting nickels at crazy depths with Deus ii. Areas I’ve searched before with good coverage (Equinox 800) and dig a nickel at 24” with Deus ii. Crazy!!

But beach2 is good about not having to discern all the falsing beeps 🌊 …
I want to get the new Mindlab thatll come out, should be interesting to see the price too and how deep it goes
I can see I have to do something. It’s really hard to see that screen! Thank you for the tips and suggestions Harry!
And I’m at about the same assessment. It’s showing more promise everywhere but the jury is still out.
Hey I’m new to your channel and I haven’t noticed a white s specta v3i in your arsenal! Any reason why ? I have one and I’m always looking for some new tricks to learn!
U guys are funny....that song....God!!
What software version are you using?
0.7
Bit late to the party but at 19:38 is a toe tap or toe plate as they are sometimes called civil war era.
Seated dime song is epic! Those 🙀 🎸
19:52 looks like a toe tap
Q. Can the Deus 2 eliminate ferrous ground chatter but identify real iron. I can do this with the Equinox 800.
The D1 and the D2 absolutely destroy the equinox in iron there's not even a question.
Not certain if this applies to edge of detection
you should do a new updated beach video withe Legend detector I just heard they did a brand new beach update to it that made it a million times better on the beach.
though I had some problem with sea water It also ruclips.net/user/postUgkxa-FNYUOM93a388gi9a4brtSCEVmrHgJH land for finding any things very easily. (thought it would work as normal due to it being water proof within certain parts of the detector), on dry land and sand worked well. My first one, so still have lots to learn
Thank you
I think your buddy Jeff plants his finds.
I want a Daus 2
Jeff and phil are gonna be deadly with that thing. The three of you together can learn it in a season
3’ aluminum can lol south Florida beach. You did say deepest what and where…
I feel your go-to will be the 800.
The pointless bullets are wad-cutters.
The horse grill is a toe tap for shoes
Double Vv Digging in AZ, Merrill I think 🤔 you are becoming tone def lol, as best I can tell when you call a good signal I hear breaking up, which to me is iron, and you pull it and low and behold, it's iron. Your ears are being dupted by multiple machines. Pick one and GO GO GO. Just my opinion 🤷.
Hey Merrill, love your vids but what about digging relics around the oldest buildings in New York? Where are your 500 year old finds? At the moment you only do open spaces like parks and beaches. To properly test detectors they should be tested in various conditions.
1) Beaches
2)Ploughed fields (rough and smooth)
3)Fields after harvest with stubble
4)Pasture
5)Parks
6)Around old buildings or where they once stood
7) Rocky areas
8) Streams and rivers
At the moment you only mainly do 1 and 5 as far as I remember seeing 👍👍👍
Dude... the 14 inch deep pull was a toe tap from a pilgirms shoe
Good day indeed... many bowls of jello to be eaten... and one muscrat's balls!! Happy fun!😁😁
Thanks for vid.
Awesome job!
Toe tap. Grills for a horse lol
That was a Toe tap from a shoe or boot
That was a shoe tack
Good video Merrill 👍🦀
Who's up at 9pm?
Thanks for sharing👍💞👍
My tesoro tejon many times has beat my etrac .on paper the etrac is supposed to be better just not the case other than the wet salt beaches
Mr Merrill 👌👍🏽🍺
this is a funny guy
Toe tap
right on the money Anasazi...nice
He said pulling iron.....
Go go
👍
Lets GooooooOOOooOOooOo
If this is the way you swing your detector, you haven’t learned much in ten years. By the way, I routinely still dig coins 7+ inches with my Explorer which is 15 years old. I would like to see you dig a coin say 1 foot, then I would be impressed.
I don’t make videos to impress you or anyone John. You will never hear me claim to be the best detectorist on the planet. But you, Dora and your Explorer can go keep impressing yourselves! 😂
@@MetalDetectingNYC lMAO!!!
@@MetalDetectingNYC I’m just saying, if you are going to make detecting videos and attract people like me who are detecting enthusiasts, you should at least swing a detector as if you knew what you are doing.
John Frei….YAWN 🥱… 💤
Tow tap
I don’t know about anyone else but for some reason I’m getting nickels at crazy depths with Deus ii. Areas I’ve searched before with good coverage (Equinox 800) and dig a nickel at 24” with Deus ii. Crazy!!
Please tell me Jeff didn’t touch that seated dime with that wire brush
Do you think you get many non-detectorist viewers? I figured it'd be pretty exclusively detectorists.
its a toe tap ... colonial
