Wood in its various forms expands and contracts with heat and moisture to varying degrees and can effect fits and tolerences.I have been a modelmaker for 75 years and would NEVER try and assemble a wooden kit without a small file and fine sandpaper to ease the fit of parts and would perhaps reinforce joints with a slight application of glue. regards, Walter

Very sound advice, Walter. I’ve built wooden ships before, both kit and scratch and rarely broke anything. Sanding the wooden pins on these UGears models may well decrease the force required to get components to fit. Thanks for your advice. I hope that helps others not repeat my mistake

I've heard if you do run into a situation where you break or lose a piece you can contact the company and they'll send you a replacement for the cost of shipping.
