    When I’m cooking, I multi task to clean the dishes while food is being cooked. I also enjoy cooking. When I started to do a task I don’t like as much (dishes), while I’m doing a task I do like (cooking), then I don’t notice the disliked task as much (dishes). Also, when you finish cooking, hopefully most of your dishes are cleaned. You can enjoy your food and relax and know you have less dishes to do when you do go back to do a final clean up in the kitchen.

    To keep dishes quick, I clean as I go. I also learned about the different cycles available on my dishwasher. I can run it more frequently with less in it and still be energy and water efficient by selecting the top rack only quick cycle for example. Small frequent automatic routine tasks, no pile ups is the key to simplifying cleaning for me. This applies to laundry and understanding my washer and dryer settings too!

    When I’m feeling overwhelmed about cleaning the kitchen (which is often) I set the timer for 5 or 10 minutes and tell myself to see how much I can get done by the time it goes off. It actually takes a lot less time to do it than it actually feels. Then I usually reset it again until it’s done.Sounds crazy but it does help motivate me.

    Have your family(minus the 3 year old) start putting their own dishes in the dishwasher. Also, unless they've had a smoothie, only one cup/day. They can rinse it out, but otherwise, there's no need for multiple glasses/day. My sister's done this for years with her kids, and it works well.
    After dinner, everyone gets a chore, and it's a weekly schedule. THat way no one is doing the same thing all week. It includes clearing and cleaning the table, sweeping, and dishes. Obv. start with age appropriate stuff, but if you get them now, by 6 they'll be able to really cut back on your work and having their dad involved will help you and show them that everyone contributes to the well-being of the family. It will also introduce cleaning to them which will make it easier for you to introduce doing their own laundry in future or cleaning around the house when they're older.
    No having the kids do all the work isn't the end goal, but having them learn slowly overtime to be fully functioning adults by building life skills IS. You in the long run having less to do is just a bonus :) Even the 3 year old can start learning by bringing you his plate from the table or picking up and putting away "his age" in toys around the house (again my sister did that when they were young).

    Lesson from my HS Home Ec teacher: fill a sink or dish pan with hot soapy water and toss in items as you cook. The water can get pretty yucky..no biggie. When done put what you can in the dishwasher and, if necessary, hand wash the rest with clean, soapy water. I recommend one of those wire dish drainers that roll over the other sink for drying. Even if you leave it across the sink when done it lays flat or roll it up to store. Game changer for me at under $20! You do an amazing job with everything!! XXOO ❤️

    I've learned to clean as I go..so before I cook i will prep. I'll chop and set out the pans and utensils I need first. Then as something is sautéing I'll clean up what I used prior. Putting things into the dishwasher as I go and wiping up counters stations help reduce my overall mess when dinner is finally done.

    • @amyriley3236
      @amyriley3236 2 года назад

      Yes! This is how I do it! Then after the meal it's just rinsing plates, utencils, and cups! Especially on busy evenings when I am running the kids places - this allows us to get it all done before we leave so I don't come back to a mess after sports. Also, I run the dishwasher each night as I head to bed. Then I take out in the morning while I do coffee (someone else said this too) Then I have a empty dishwasher to start my day. Keeps me from having to run at a funky time and items piling up while it runs during the day

    You're always my favorite cleaning and decluttering to watch. You're so real and relatable. What I want to know, is how long does it take you to do all this? I look at my mess and just feel so overwhelmed and like its a never ending battle. Kinda like you with the dishes. I feel that one so much, as we live in a much older home without a dishwasher. I feel like all I ever do some days is wash dishes lol!

      @srcworm 2 года назад +1

      Same. I live in a small apartment and don’t have a dishwasher either. I’m so tired of washing dishes. I’ve been looking at those small counter top dishwashers lately.

    • @kathyb72
      @kathyb72 2 года назад

      @@srcworm We had one of those countertop dishwashers as a kid( I live in the house I grew up in) and it was garbage. When I inherited the house 12 years ago, a major remodel wasn't in the budget so I bought a portable dishwasher that you roll back and forth to the sink. It was just ok, but really more trouble than it was worth. I too, am soooooo tired of dishes.

  • @aoie11
    @aoie11 2 года назад +6

    I don't have a dishwasher, so these tips are out of my absolute necessity and for my sanity on a daily basis 🙃 ...clear off food (trash, compost bin etc) - don't throw that crap in the sink ever. If you have a disposal then use it right away, don't let the food sit. Rinse off everything, I mean every single thing every single time, don't let any food particles sit on the dishes while they're sitting in the sink. Since you have a dishwasher, rinse them all directly after using them and just put them right in (good kid chore too for when it comes to that).
    Unload your dishwasher every morning or whenever it's done a run cycle, that way you have it clear and empty to load up again. Pots and pans I was right away or let soak. Basically the theme is don't let food sit and get stuck! So much easier to just wash an already rinsed dish than have to srcub endlessly, and it honestly doesn't take up as much time as you'd think to just clear it off right after use.

    • @aoie11
      @aoie11 2 года назад

      @@lakeiam615 I have 3 kiddos too! I used to be super overwhelmed with it also, but I've found a few things to be really helpful in keeping my head above water as a mom. I have a dish rack that's always next to the sink, it's not the prettiest thing to look at but the function outweighs the look. 😅 I usually do two "loads" per day, typically one after lunch and one after dinner but sometimes I'll do a small one after breakfast too if we've accumulated a lot of dishes. The kids/husband help too, they know to clear food/rinse and keep things generally tidy so I can get things done more efficiently. They also do dishes occasionally, with help bc they're still young and I don't want them to get cut by knives or break things... They will get there tho! Baby steps to gain confident, capable kiddos ☺️ in the meantime, have patience with the tasks of the day.. don't be too hard on yourself or expect perfection, just do a little here and there and find a rhythm that works for you! Clean as you go, put on music you love or listen to a podcast or book, make your space somewhere you enjoy being and it will feel so much nicer and easier.

  • @bonessam9618

    After every meal I scrape food off into the garbage, rinse all dishes and then put what I can in the dishwasher. If I'm lazy, I'll rinse them off and stack by the dishwasher and then fill the dishwasher at the end of the day then turn on at night. In the morning I put the dishes away. It makes the kitchen so much cleaner. Nothing is ever left on the table.

    I have made it part of my night time routine to do the dishes/load the dishwasher before bed. I feel like a full sink is what makes my whole kitchen look messy. I noticed you have just a plain mirror in your bathroom not a vanities cabinet with storage. Look into the Kholer medicine cabinet that has a magnifying mirror attached inside with loads of shelves for storage. They have many sizes to fill that wall of your. It is a one time investment of a few hundred dollars but trust me it will keep your countertop clean.

That way the dishes never pile up. Also, run the dishwasher every night and empty it first thing in the morning. That way it’s available through the day to collect the dirty dishes.

    Take your cleaningtime as a comfort-time for you. Do it like zen: enjoy the here and now (in room/ place and time). Feal like it is the right place and time. Do it in a way, that you give love, peace and comfort to you and your invirement, by cleaning it now. Cleaning a toilet means, that you have a toilett. I read a book from a Zen-monk (Thich Nhat Hanh) who said he lived in a monastery in Vietnam with 300 monks without a single toilet for half his life. So when they got a toilet, he felt gratitude for this fact and loved cleaning it.

    I was just going to ask if you could do a pantry tour or weekly meals video. I noticed you keep less processed food in your pantry and am looking for less processed but quick and easy meals for myself.
    Instead of putting dirty dishes in the sink, put them directly in the dishwasher. Also, it may take some time to become routine but Marie Kondo does laundry with the whole family. Dads and kids help fold and put away. Even little kids. As your kids are growing older, it’s a great way to teach them responsibility, a life skill, and have a more equal distribution of housework per person.
    Lastly, lol, why not drill the bench into the wall?

    A health tip: don't consolidade food. It's best to be carefull not to open a new package of something than mixing "old" food with your new food. That because when we open something bacteria and fungus start to develop( at first they are not dangerous, but it can be in a while because chemical reactions happen and that is what makes food go bad). And guess what, good food comes whit new clean nutrients for those bacteria. When you put new food together with old food you are basically giving bacteria a feast. "Oh but we consolidate food and never had food poisoning" ye but if you have you will NEVER forget.

    I’ve honestly seen way grosser/grimier bathrooms from teenagers (former housecleaner) than what your 5 and under boys produced lol, and that’s referencing a specific house I cleaned weekly. Genuinely don’t understand how they were even capable of making it so dirty in such a short amount of time lol
    edit: one of the most valuable things you can teach your kids is to rinse the darn sink every time after using it (especially after brushing teeth). Their future significant others will really appreciate it I’m sure 🙃

    Jennifer Cook is a good frugal living RUclipsr, if you find her meal planning method, it is monthly. I have found that is so much better. I find it exhausting to think of meals every week, so buying all your meat and freezing it at the start of the month has been good and planning meals out with what you have is great. Also 'the wads' meal ideas is good. There is a lot of content out there though...a good tip I have found along with the meal planning that Jennifer shares is having a recipe book of things you like and using that recipe book to meal plan. Maybe only trying out 1 or 2 new recipes a month and sticking to a lot of regular things you normally eat for the meal plans across the month. Hope this helps. Love your videos ♡♡

Same when I’m cooking.. when I’m done with a dish.. rinse and put in dishwasher…less to clean after meals 👍

    A couple things I do is run my dishwasher every night before bed, even if it’s only a 1/2 load. It gets unloaded at breakfast and that way I can load as I go (I do run it in the in middle of the day if it’s full). Which leads me into my next tip, clean as you cook. I put away any ingredients as I use them, put dishes in the dishwasher and wash anything that needs to be washed. I have found I’m not in my kitchen for hours upon hours at night.

    I don’t mind loading the dishwasher, but i HATE unloading for some reason, so before my husband leaves for work, he unloads in the morning, then i can load the dishwasher throughout the day, and no matter what happens, i run the dishwasher every single night before i go to bed. That way my sink is always pretty clear and i never feel overwhelmed with pile ups!

    Clean as you go in the kitchen is the only way to a consistently clean kitchen! I NEVER leave dishes in the sink .
    Part of cooking and eating for me is also cleaning up straight way …I never view a meal as over until I have done dishes and wiped counters. I will often wipe down cabinets etc whilst waiting for pasta to boil etc. so I am using my time wisely and also get my cordless vacuum out after dinner to get any crumbs up …it takes a minute if that . It’s all about building new habits and also you are in the thick of it right now with little ones so give yourself a pat on the back because you are getting through the day and fed children are more important than a clean kitchen 😂 it’s all about balance and we are all different .Just do your best ❤️

    I get impatient while I’m cooking waiting for things to cook, so I use my impatience to handwash dishes as I go. It helps my impatience as well as making for a clean kitchen when the meal is done. Also, listening to a spooky podcast that gets me really focused. I like “Monsters Among Us”.

    A lot of people will hate, but we use paper plates for all snacks, lunches, and the majority of all breakfast items. I also am a complete weirdo, I can not stand all the cups and mismatch plates so we have 1 set of dishes and 4 extra bowls that are deeper for cereal. I have to wash or run the dishwasher daily. I will never go back to overflowing kitchen cabinets.

    When cleaning the kitchen I always play loud music from my playlist. To keep on top of the kitchen, I do the dishes while I’m cooking. That way there isn’t a massive mess when you sit down to eat, and you have half the stuff to add to the dishwasher rather than a lot. Also wipe up any mess from sauces or oil etc as you go along. It’s easier to wipe when still wet rather than wait to clean dried on food.

      I do the same, and immediately rinse plates and cups after a meal, even if you are not going to completely wash them it's so helpful to rinse off the food/dump things into the trash and then you can come back to it without scrubbing the stuck on gunk. Having family members help with this is good practice. Husband helps with after dinner clean up when I cook and all the kids know to dump any trash off their plates and leave them by the sink or in the sink for a rinse. it's tough for one person to keep track of the mess made by 5. (family of 5 here too)

      @@candacevillegas-giron8560 family of 5 here too. My husband & I have an arrangement where whoever cooks, the other does the dishes. And I also telly everyone to scrape leftovers into the bin then put plates by the sink.

    I know your kids are young but you could have them help in the kitchen. It won't won't perfect but it might save some time. Also, clean up the dishes after each meal. Or make it a habit to put the dishes in the dishwasher after using them!

    My number one cleaning hack is clean as I go
    If I am cooking I clean up anything I used if I am done with it
    For example if I make a side salad,. I make sure all the unused ingredients are put away. And I wash any knives or cutting utensils I used to cut up salad items, as I am letting water boil for other menu items
    I put any dishes or pots and pans into the dishwasher that I have finished using,. And I do this clean up while other parts of the meal are cooking
    So when a meal is ready to eat, the bulk of the "washing up" is under control or even done.
    Then after dinner, it's usually dishes and utensils that need doing

    I hate cleaning the bathroom more than anything else. So I try to minimize the amount of cleaning in there. Two tips I will share. 1. I keep a washcloth on the cabinet door so that I can wipe down any water drops or spills asap. 2. I store all my make up in a beauty box that I store in the cabinet under my sink. My skin care is also under my sink in a roll out drawer. I pull out the make up box and what ever skincare I use and put it back asap. It helps keep the bathroom looking clean longer and reduces visual decluttered. The only things on my counter are the soap, ring tray and electric toothbrushes. Hope that helps!

    Try to rinse dishes and load them into the washer asap. I make sure the dishwasher is running when I go to bed and the sink is clean. While I wait for the coffee to brew in the morning, I empty the dishwasher so I can fill it with breakfast dishes to get the day going. It helps to stay ahead of the dishes.

    in the kitchen we keep one frying pan and four pots of various sizes. No more. So the used ones have to be washed between each meal. We load the dishwasher with everything else and run it as soon as it is full, and empty it before we start another meal prep, so the used dishes from that meal can go directly into the dishwasher - no pit stop in the sink. I also know how to pour pasta or veggie water from the pot with a lid without having to use a strainer, because I hate washing the strainer. Also my partner is perfectly capable and willing to do dishes, so my work load is like half of yours. Possibly less.

    If you can't get them replaced for some reason, you could cut those damaged pants into shorts if they still fit your boys. Even if they're not town worthy they can wear them to play in. Also to save time on cleaning wipe your counters down first and then you only have to vacuum once.

    So my sink is hardly ever gross, I never put any dirty dishes in the sink. I put them on the counter above the dish washer. If it will be hand washed I set it on the counter next to the sink. I hate clutter on the counters, so i know I’ll load the dirty ones in the dishwasher asap and hand wash the others asap. Plus I rinse the sink every time i get any food/liquids splattered in it.

    Empty the dish washer before you cook. Then put whatever you’re done with in the dishwasher. That way after the meal you just put the dishes you ate off of and and any pots and pans that are dishwasher friendly in. That’s how it goes for me on a good day.
