  • Tim is surveying a new block of ground for deerstalking. He counted 250 fallow on the land - and he wonders how the British deerstalking community will manage to shoot its way out of this one. Meanwhile, gamekeepers are getting busy with the shooting season around the corner. Jaf Jefferson is out shooting foxes in Somerset while Paul Childerley is cutting back foliage around his pens. It's the second week of our Yildiz Steel Sporter giveaway, David has the latest from the News Stump and Charlie showcases the best hunting and shooting videos on RUclips in Hunting RUclips. It's all in this week's #FieldsportsBritain

There are plenty of people who want to shoot deer. However the land owner won’t ask for help and the people who are not able to cope. REFUSE TO ALLOW ANYONE ELSE TO DARE STEP ON THE LAND TO HELP THEM!!!

getting permission to control deer has always hard to get because anyone who had it would guard it with their life and would never invite even a friend onto the ground for fear that even a "friend" would try to steal it off of them. And I'm afraid old habits die hard even though there is now a glut of dear the old fears still prevail. Meanwhile the deer continue to increase

I'd willingly shoot more deer but being charged DOUBLE the open market price per kg (£2 vs £1) for the carcass means I shoot half the deer I would otherwise.
I hunt & fish to eat to a greater extent than for the activity itself & when boned pork shoulder & chicken thighs are cheaper for the meat content even WITHOUT factoring in the cost of the day's stalking (Tesco's ribeye offer would be cheaper if I did that...), I'll "hunt" in Aldi.*

Managing deer is simply a matter of sufficient stalker application. If recreational stalkers invest sufficient time and effort, they can reduce deer densities to low levels just as well as a professional can. But one hunter cannot manage a deer population over more than a tiny woodland area stalking for just a few hours a week.

The question that you should be asking is why is there no support for recreational deer stalkers interm's of funding for local larder facilities that recreational deer stalkers can use that and why do we continue to see venison from New Zealand on supermarket shelves. In 2019 the Scottish Governments woodland creation grant budget was something like £56million and about 1/3 of that budget when on littering the countryside with deer fencing. Several million pounds went on funding expansion of private tree nurseries to grow extra trees most of which are destined to replace those trees that have been browsed by deer. Not one penny has been spent on helping to fund deer managers or larder facilities. I recently approached Scottish Forestry for grant assistance under there small scale harvesting and processing grant for a mobile deer larder / chill so that handle more carcasses in remote forests where I don't have access to larder facilities so that I can process more beasts into the food chain. I was told that a mobile deer larder was not eligible for grant assistance.

Land owners should pick more competent stalkers. I haven't been able to get stalking for years unless I pay. I know people with no stalking experience that have several farms that have large deer populations and they take 2-3 deer per year as they prefer to shoot foxes.

I have never seen so many Roe, it's impossible to walk the dogs without seeing up to 9 of them, they've become so emboldened around humans and dogs that they just stand a few yards off and stare...I would like to see the numbers reduced significantly and humanely; the number of road-kills is beyond ridiculous. My Wolfdogs are well trained but when there are deer that close by I lose them frequently which is a real concern.

Right now I'm in a suburban area that has a huge number of muntjacs, so shooting them with a deer rifle is out of the question, the only possible remedy is tranquillizer guns, but the government have made them Section 5. Right now they die when they are run over by a car, hopefully without any human fatalities. I nearly hit one on the bypass about a month ago, it scared the life out of me.

I was on 'Shooting for Heros' under help 4 heros till it got cancelled by corporate pressure. Have NVQ live quary management but never managed to complete DSC. Tried for couple years to get on deerstalking it's just to expensive and keeped by gatekeepers charging silly money. So stuck with pigeon (working class game birds) SGC and target shooting FAC.
SA90 (a) qualified and NRA RCO/RSO 21&1/2 experienced but still couldn't get a open ticket (because a uneducated nor qualified punter says so)... No wonder most give up.

I wonder how hard it is or isn't for most people. I had a 308 added to my licence with just one booking for boar/deer , no dsc course. However, I grew up on a farm and previously owned a centrefire - albeit 20 years ago. Also had a open ticket already for 22 and 17hmr. Was pleased with how Somerset police handled it with no more than a phone call - the licensing guy seemed to be the shooter himself..

@@KolyaNickD it's not getting calibers on your certificate (we don't have licences) that's the issuse for anyone, I have over 20 on my FAC, it's getting stalking permissions that's the issue for everyone.
And the actual reason not enough were harvested was the price for meat is so low, its a business and has nothing to do with heard management.
Its a backwards outdated system a self licking lollipop designed to protect and profit very few.

    • @KolyaNickD

@@royalalloy3471 this confirms to me that the plod discriminate heavily based on socio-economic position. They only want defacto casual gun ownership, which is basically what an open ticket is, for people who are happy and prosperous enough to pay up or are socially connected to the land owning community. The one thing they are terrified of is potential spree killers - it's what this all about. Has to be a better way if filtering these people out.

    • @royalalloy3471
      @royalalloy3471 2 года назад +1

@@KolyaNickD they aren't terrified of spree killers not with the extremely low frequency 11 years gap this time around.... Read 'Does the Finger pull the trigger' and you'll have your eyes open to the truth of illegal homeoffice firearms policy...
Even under Heller v DC the SCOTUS had to revert to the English Bill of Rights (which are still law) to protect the US 2nd amendment.
That's why nothing is banned no firearms can be banned. 97 they moved handguns to section 5 and won't give you a section 5 certificate... Because they can't ban them.
We have certificates for the recording of game and sporting numbers NOT licenses for ownership...

With industrial development, still there’re many deers & other wild animals got reproduced, and you can go hunting. Supposed you have large lands, keep environment well.
I stay at Asia for a long time, there’re guns & hunting restrictions in many areas; finally I found reasons might be environmental pollution & some government don’t like people owning guns. Regarding guns owning maybe related to their policy, laws, religion or society atmosphere, whatever; would be difficult to judge; such as a small island - Taiwan, there were thousands of hunters & guns owners, no matter what’s legal or not, got put in jail for many years with strange, unreasonable, ridiculous judge. Now, they got released, people & officials are discussing guns owning & hunting; hope get right direction, without bias. Regarding environment, just one earth, there’s responsibility for everybody. Those Asia areas are developing industries & technology, destroyed wild lands, ranges; but without effective management, got pollution; there’s no hunting, but wild animals are reduced or disappeared. Moreover, many people got cancer or strange diseases.
Some people criticized hunters, judge hunters for spoiling environment. Finally, people found those were excuses; hunters care environment indeed, hunters care animals reproduction, hunters care field sports can be run continuously.
Your team is highly appreciated; please promote field sports and guns to Asia areas.
