  • Shooting deer at night may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Niall Rowantree is enacting Scottish government policy through gritted teeth, and pointing out the problems the politicians and civil servants from Edinburgh and Glasgow are heaping on the Highlands. On a lighter note, Wayne Martin brings his ferrets to Somerset for a day out with Jaf Jeffeson and the South Somerset Ferreters. It’s the first time Wayne’s ferrets have seen action. Find out how they take to it. Plus news correspondent Deborah Hadfield reports on the efforts of the UK and European hunting and shooting community to help Ukraine. We are giving away Muller chokes priced at up to £150. David has the latest from the news stump and Charlie showcases the top hunting and shooting videos in Hunting RUclips. It’s all in this week’s #FieldsportsBritain

I'm not a stalker but I thoroughly enjoy the reports by Niall Rowantree. His knowledge and enthusiasm for deer really comes through, So informative and always explains exactly what he is doing and why. Keep up the good work.

Good day Charlie and the team, great sets of videos for this week with great content, enjoy watching them all and thumbs up too. Many thanks for choosing one of our Trout fishing videos for this week, much appreciate it.Waikaremoana is a great lake in the wilderness of North Island of New Zealand and it means "Freshwater marine feed" and has a great number of huge Trout in it.To catch a ten pounder is still possible in this remote part of the country and we have hunted and fished there for nearly 50 years. Thanks again, tight lines and safe hunting to all and greetings from Down Under,, Tony.

The thing is, they are not "ill advised" they just don't listen to the people who actually know what they are talking about.

When we went ferreting we always got told off when we got back to the car, for talking, stamping around or made unnecessary noise when we were on it! Nice and quiet, staying downwind where possible and using hand signals. There was always digging out to do but far less than when I’ve been out with a noisy bunch sitting up wind….it definitely makes a big difference. Nice video.

Hi Guys, thanks for another great show.Night shooting has its place if done safely and correctly as Niall demonstrates. At least the meat is utilized, in my stat when culls have been done the meat is left to rot.Should that ferret be "banned" becuase of taking illegal steroids, it's huge in comparison! All the best from Australia.

I agree that Night vision and Thermal can aid cullers where deer numbers are causing great problems but would never condone their use for general
Deerstalking!Get off your arse learn your ground and deer movements and you won’t need it!Liked the ferreting too ,takes me back to my salad days!🙂

I would point out that all actual shooting has normally to be done with white light only.

    Hi Charlie,
Can i just say that i think the piece on night shooting of deer is some we should not really be televising/broadcasting, for the following reasons:
    - although i see the need for "managers" to do it, should we be broadcasting the method of how to do, when there is a real problem with poachers carrying out this activity in lowland areas?
    - we do not need to show "how" it is done because the small number of people who legitimately need to do this are aware of why, how and relevant licence applications etc.
    - does this give the subliminal impression that shooting deer at night is ok.
Sorry this is just my thought on the possibilities of poachers going out and doing it more often if its seen on here... And the target audience who this is aimed at already know the techniques etc.
Just think its not a topic to be broadcasting thats all. IMHO

Thanks, Callum. There's long been an argument in the media about whether or not giving criminals the idea/knowhow exceeds the mission to inform the wider audience. I go with the theory that - in the main - criminals already have the idea and the knowhow. Sorry to disagree with you on this point. Where I think the danger lies is in putting out a film which says that an illegal action is so widespread it should be considered legal (though it's fine to argue, in that instance, it should be made legal). / Charlie
