you can clean these up even more if you would like by burning a flat on either end of the sling cord, instead of having knots. melt the end and let it cool for a split second before gently pressing it against a smooth flat surface to flatten it. the cord wrapped around the hex nuts makes the hole tight enough that this is enough to keep the cord from slipping back out. i love how clean these look with a flat end, especially if using black cord.
Based on the stated dimensions in the video and comments below, as well as the apparent scale in the video, those look like 3/8" nuts to me. In other words, they fit a 3/8" diameter bolt and are 9/16" across the flats. So if you go to the hardware store, purchase 3/8" nuts.

And now that I'm following the tutorial with my hex nuts, they look MUCH too large in comparison to the ones you have. I do, admittedly, have rather small hands; still, two of your hex nuts make up just about the width of your thumb and one of my hex nuts makes up the width of my thumb... And I don't have hands that are *that* small. When you say 15mm, do you mean including the rest of the nut? I believe the standard form of measuring hex nuts is by the size of the *hole* ... Overall, though, this is a decent tutorial! I'm just waiting to see what happens with these gigantic beads at the end... this does *not* feel quite right to me. Maybe I'll just use one hex per bead instead of two.

Becuase, having almost completed this with my gargantuan 5/8" hex nuts (5/8" being very close to 15mm), it's very clear that these are way too large. Especially for someone with smaller hands. The stopper knot slides easily through the hole of the bead, even when wrapped an extra time after the initial cross of the stopper knot. And @TheWeaversofEternityParacordTutorials (even though this won't really notify you; it just feels right), I would suggest you measure these nuts again from the *inside* of the hole instead of the whole nut, as that's how these are sold in stores. Yes, if you're going by socket wrench sizes, then you would measure them by the outside, and that's fine if you mention it (even though it does add extra work for viewers); however, if you do *not* mention this caveat then you'll have viewers go out and buy the wrong size nuts, wasting money and time. I believe this could be a very quality tutorial but I feel extremely misled and cheated, now having wasted a good part of the afternoon attempting to follow your tutorial. GreyWolfEmber. I am proficient at knot tying and decided to try this. Your directions are simple enough, but the size of the Hex nuts does not make sense. I tried several I had on hand only to find the interior diameter too small to complete the wrapping process, let alone add the grab cord. So I went shopping and ended up with some that are too large. Please, please put the recommended diameter or the size number (USA) of the Hex nuts that work with 550 gutted paracord.
I'm guessing that when using the correct size of hex nuts (8mm-10mm on the inside, as hex nuts are usually measured) this would be difficult to string without one.

A quick suggestion, super glue the two nuts together before wrapping them with paracord. This may make wrapping them easier. Nice idea.

They're definitely on the heavier side. You can use a single hex nut if you think 2 on each side are too heavy.

You can, but if the shoelaces are cotton or natural material, don't try to melt the snipped ends with a lighter as cotton will just burn and not melt.
