    Ahh I’m rooting for her so hard! But I do agree that there is something stopping her from being a top pop girl. She is very talented and I think having more writers and producers in the room can help develop her sound more.

      I don't think there's anything stopping her. As seen with her current most successful and best selling album to date, the public likes when she has less collaboration and we get to hear more of her voice. I do want to know who you think the current top pop girls are though. Because everybody seems to have a different answer.

      @@ticktockticktockticktock I would love for her to be a top pop girl! But I think she doesn’t necessarily have the appeal from the public. Many people have labeled her as just Taylor Swift’s shadow and some don’t even think she’ll ever get to play stadiums. They just don’t see her having a longevity as a pop star due to her lack of performance quality and songwriting ability. While I don’t agree with this, I don’t think people are very fond of her. The top pop stars people are claiming right now are artists like Billie Eilish or Olivia Rodrigo which I personally don’t agree with.

    Honestly the Olivia Rodrigo beef hurt her career and gave her the blonde “i’m coming to get your man” vibe. I hate that for her because she’s the perfect package fr.

      But she's smart to use this as her branding tho. She's embracing that image even though it's not true. But the scandal boosted her career tho.

    I also loved her in the r&b genre, but i am incredibly happy with how much she experimented with her songwriting and sound in emails i can’t send. I don’t want a pop album to be too repetitive, which is why i liked how much versatility she showcased. That being said, i think she really excels in falsetto and high notes, which is why Read Your Mind and Feather fit very well with her stage presence and vocals. I hope she is going to experiment more with this jazzy/pop sound, with a delicate addition of rock-pop, maybe by mixing ABBA, Bee Gees and Fleetwood Mac sounds into her own. She has everything it takes but, besides everything that happened, she also isn’t promoted enough in Europe, which is a big disadvantage compared to her peers. I hope they’re going to play well with their cards in the next era, because she really deserves recognition.

    Also, despite what you want to push, she is known outside of Taylor. She did the least amount of eras shows in comparison to the other guests, but you can't include Nonsense outros from her solo tour just to pretend that she's still under Taylor's shadow or even Olivia's shadow just because people like to bring up the car song drama every 5 months. You saw the whole Lacy fiasco that Olivia's fandom created so unless you're going to start saying that every Olivia album cycle involves a headline accusing a song being about Sabrina, I don't think it's necessary to try and associate her with her when more people would associate Sabrina with having no media training due to the Nonsense outros than they would associate her with Olivia in 2024.

    • @Popfilia
      @Popfilia  7 месяцев назад +3

      Ok so I'm talking from the perspective of the general public, most of the stuff you're mentioning are from fandoms. Random people who aren't dedicated fans aren't going to know about the Lacy stuff and might not know the outros.

    I think Sabrina is a pop girly and she has the talent and time to craft her skill. She has 10 years under her belt and worked with some of the best. Lily Allen and Julia are actually the best songwriters in the world. She has a great voice and a great range. She is also very unique despite working in a pop realm which I feel can be oversaturated. Also the Olivia Rodrigo drama was a shit show and not a blessing. Not all press is good press, especially because it only reported Olivia Rodrigo.

      no room? which room are we exactly talking about? half the girls yall call the "main pop girls" nowadays either haven't been main anything since the obama administration or rarely have the same demand as even shown in this video. if you ask any chronically online nitwit who the current "main pop girls" are, you'd have a different answer from each person. it's no longer the 2010s or the 2000s. music is digested differently and the same hierarchies clearly cannot be maintained in the way you tried fantasizing they would be back when you were a miserable teen trying to participate in the stan olympics. there's absolutely room for her or else she wouldn't have been able to remain in the conversation for this long whereas others, such as the likes of gayle, have only fizzled out.

    I think you're at the risk of spreading a false narrative when you credit the DL drama to her career boost and act as if the death threats and slutshaming she received is why she was able to bounce back today. In 2021, the second that song dropped she began getting harassed to the point where her family members were receiving death threats on the day of her grandfather's funeral & she was being stalked outside of her hotel in public. This was before Skin was even released.
    Even after months of no music, when she made a follow up to Skin and officially began teasing the EICS era, she was absolutely trashed for Skinny Dipping & endlessly mocked every time she uttered a word about music. No one was open to supporting her for the rest of the year.
    Beginnings of a turnaround would only come once Because I Liked A Boy was released a year later after she pushed her album back from its original 2021 release, but she wouldn't begin seeing critical success until she started touring in late 2022 and the Nonsense outros were born.
    If there's anything to credit for her career boost, other than finally switching her management after getting out of her 8 year long contract, then it's the EICS tour and how she expertly capitalized on it's virality potential. Without her platinum single Nonsense, there's no room for Feather and her other deluxe tracks receiving love. You call it generic, but I call it smart.
    She knows what the GP wants from her. She was making inklings of the R&B inspired country-esque music in some of her Disney days to little to no support. It's always great to establish a fuller sound, which I think she does excellently even merely through her lyric choices (there's no one out right now who's as playful as she is in a way that doesn't make you want to gauge your eyes out) but until you lend support to her deeper cuts instead of her songs with the most market potential, her new management isn't going to give it the time of day. That's all I have on that.

    • @Popfilia
      @Popfilia  7 месяцев назад +3

      Thanks for the comment! But I honestly think if it weren't for the DL drama, she wouldn't have the current record deal she has now. Of course, it brought a lot of negativity to her but Labels were definitely trying to capitalize off the drama. Which I'm sure was a factor when Sabrina signed with Island.

    I think for Sabrina to get mega-famous she has to do one thing first and foremost, which is focus on her voice. Her singing voice is pretty unique to me (in that she likes to sing lower than you might expect) and if she goes more RnB again that would help her take up real estate Ariana isn't touching because Ariana does a lot of high notes. My other concern is honestly just her wardrobe. I feel like a lot of her outfits are really revealing (which is fine by itself) but I feel like it draws attention to how physically small she is and detracts from her stage presence. I'd love to know your thoughts on Espresso.
    p.s in terms of her image I think Sabrina is at her best when she's being confident but authentic, kinda down-to-earth. also lol can't be helped that Billie is the face of this new bedroom whisper-y pop subgenre, but I do think I like Sabrina more when she's being louder with her songs. like girl we know you can sing, don't let those pipes get rusty!

    I truly dont think she will be THE pop girl, her music, sound and voice is pretty generic - not like Ariana, Taylor, Miley, Britney who have distinct styles. I tried some of her songs and wasnt a big fan of her earlier albums or newer songs, it felt like music they would play at my local dentist's office.

      Honestly as someone who has a strangely intense para social relationship with sc, I think the exact same! Rn her music just isn’t distinct enough. It doesn’t feel like a she’s settled on a sound that feels like “her” it sounds like a lot of other people (I hear a LOT of Ariana) which is fine like everyone’s got influences but it doesn’t feel singular (excuse the pun) it’s unfortunate because I think she has real potential and she’s having such a big moment rn but she rlly needs to capitalise on it cos it’ll be fleeting

      @@PopfiliaI never liked her music but what I like about this move is that it’s so ambitiously left field, it could make or break her career. She was self aware enough to see her downfall ahead of time cause I swear some of these pop girlies are really stubborn and blind. All she has to do is make good music rn. If she was to really commit to this edgy persona, she’ll up the antics like doja, kanye or ariana and really build a world that makes this persona believable. But I doubt this.

  • @quintyjoella
    @quintyjoella 7 месяцев назад +3

    honestly, she can have a chance but at the same time she might not just make it.
    I think she CAN make it because -
    1. she's in the top 100 of the spotify artists (+ she also has a huge acting career including disney so she can possibly still use that fame for her popstar career).
    2. she's been guest starring at Taylor Swift her concert(s); the era's tour, which also known for (if i'm correct) the most successful pop concert sale in a few good years since every show is sold out (?)
    and why I think she probably won't make it YET -
    1. let's all be honest - there are WAY too many artists, celebrities and rising stars in the world, especially America. Who knows who will be the next Olivia Rodrigo (my guess is honestly Tate McRae because her fame is rising incredibly fast these days; especially because of her songs 'greedy', 'exes' and 'she's all i wanna be') or Taylor Swift. The fame between artists switch like crazy, so one day it could be Raye (mostly known with her song 'escapism'), next day it could be Melanie Martinez, etc etc. She definitely has the potential in my opinion, but, I think that if she doesn't put a 100% into everything, she wouldn't make it just yet because the media is still (mostly) hanging onto Taylor and Olivia (+ other rappers like Drake and Kanye) these days, and also because of the Olivia drama itsself if we include that because that also took a huge turn on her career.
    2. Even though I'm a fan myself .. she's not the biggest artist and mainly has fans through Taylor, Gracie Abrams (most known for her song 'mess it up' and 'I miss you, I'm sorry') and of course Olivia Rodrigo.
    3. Because of her disney acting career, media will probably still see her has a teenager who acts for disney shows because let's be honest.. The media like to stick onto the past. A LOT. (an example being the olivia, sabrina and joshua drama.)

    • @Popfilia
      @Popfilia  7 месяцев назад +6

      I appreciate the comment
      Tate mcrae might be another Katy perry where she could churn out the hits but no one cares about her as a star. Dua’s in that place right now too as soon as the hits stop, its over for them.
      Raye had a good year but I don’t know if she wants to be a big pop star. And alot of artists can have good years doesn’t mean they’ll be the next big thing.
      Olivia Rodrigo IMO lucked into the level she’s at. She had great songs in the beginning but I’m starting to see her struggle with maintaining her status. She was a overnight sensation so…
      Some pros: Honestly the superstars we have now I think people are getting tired of them so ppl want new blood.
      Sabrina could make it with consistency and better music. And she needs to start focusing on establishing her own identity more. And I think she’s far enough removed from Disney that ppl won’t label her as that, she has a whole new racy persona
