A shame coz Sophia and Lara got the pipes to go live but they mostly just do the ‘chorus’ of the songs. Megan has decent vocals as well, and when they did theKaraoke challenge in one of those Korean songs, we can see that all of them: Manon, Yoonchae, even the designated “dancer”, Daniella can actually sing. I get why they need to use backtrack to protect the health of their voices -but I would think at least in the radio songs, they should be able to sing live.

katseye can literally sing and have prove that. it’s not their fault that their staff is making them use backing tracks. and it’s actually common for backing tracks to be put on when you’re literally dancing and singing at the same time….

some of these foreign idol groups wouldve suited the western scene better as well imho theyre trying to hard to be polished on the outside but like blackpink they just fail in many areas if they cant sing live at all then at least have them attend lessons or people will lose interest.

that goes with a lot of idol groups sadly its prerecorded backing track or just a backingtrack a lot of them do is they have to just dance well and look pretty. idle are an excellent live singing group albiet with the use of prerecorded backing track but i really enjoy idles performances. itzy i love them but i cannot tell if theyre singing live either or if theyre too busy trying to look pretty for the camera. ateez sing live so i never have to worry about them. it just seem to vary even if the choreo isnt difficult they try to mask the groups potential flaws its weird asf. i dont hate the group or members more so just the style of these performances or the set up of them doesnt make sense to me to not have them sing live. im still confused generally by full on foreign idol groups cause to me no offence to them but their songs are so similar to what people my age wouldve already listened to in the 00s. same with dear alice. we already had that one direction era. i think they need to do it properly if they want to wow people cause these days people will be looking at them like a hawk for mistakes

Hybe and Geffen has always promoted Dream Academy as a program to form a group that will work like a K-pop group and are trained with a K-pop system. I don’t think they ever intended to make them “more western” or “more eastern” depending on where they’re performing. They are meant to enter a U.S. market with a K-pop foundation. That being said, I’ve noticed Geffen doesn’t really do much for them and that they are being heavily managed by Hybe. I will really only see them on a couple of American radios or interviews and they seem to be almost never performing in the U.S., despite being based in Los Angeles. I also feel like racism is a huge reason as to why the group seems to promote in Asia more. Any association with K-pop or Asian people is almost automatically seen as a joke, which is why K-pop artists and Asian artists in general have a hard time breaking into the U.S. music industry. I’ve noticed people will label Katseye as K-pop because of their connections with Hybe, despite the fact that they aren’t meant to be a K-pop group and have many members who aren’t Korean or even Asian. Even now, groups like BTS and Blackpink are not taken seriously even with their incredible achievements. That K-pop label is stuck with them and that causes a lot of discrimination bias. I almost wonder if that’s why Geffen doesn’t invest as much time or money into them, or maybe even sees them as a quick cash grab. Also, the girls can most definitely sing. If you look through their videos from even before they joined Dream Academy, they’ve got talent. But I feel that the issue is many Korean labels love to turn up a backtrack because they hate any sign of even the slightest imperfection. This has been a huge problem with 4th generation K-pop groups (debuted 2019-present) as companies expect for more and more perfection (which is just impossible). Before 2016ish, most groups sang live and got a lot of bashing if they didn’t.

Its not their fault heavy choreography coupled with singing is hard and its the companies choice if you want to watch their vocals they displayed it you just pick and chose which one to watch. They give their all when they perform not everything has to be the same!!!

I think it because they still lowkey kinda adjacent kpop and this is where kpop is now you hardly ever see a group do live vocals even if they’re know for their vocals aespa wereinf touring and mostly lip sync

You should check katseye ep on weekly idol. I was kinda blown away by the karaoke segment, this is coming from a casual listener

this is my first video so i don’t know if you’re into kpop or more so katseye’s korean label, HYBE. the company is well known for pushing out artists that can’t sing but have clearly been trained to dance well, like lesserafim who performed in coachella (no backtracks allowed) and got massive hate because their voices aren’t up to par, even with korean audiences. singing standards in kpop have declined massively but if you want kpop dances with good singing i recommend aespa!

The problem with the wish bus show, there are so many wish bus live that is so good, e.g. Bini, SB19 etc. but Katseye live is so underwhelming.

R&B girl groups focus on vocals first and dancing second, KPop girl groups it's vice versa Oh also; I think Katseye is leaning into the performer archetype of artist, like Britney Spears. Not the vocalist type like Ariana Grande. You made some valid points though!

I am a fan of the Western girl group and it's really sad to me how underappreciated they are. Boys World's break-up earlier this year was so sad, and Citizen Queen has lost 2 members over the years. Flo is breaking through ( thank goodness), but on the whole, the music industry is brutal to girl groups. I hope more groups find their audience.

Another thing that turned people off was the “eat the cake Anna Mae” line Jay had in the song referencing Tina Turner, her supposed idol. Before she passed, Tina said she was very hurt by that. Bey did nothing, which is…typical. Refusing to have a backbone for anything that does not bring profit to her.

i don't care about a decline or whatever but i've seen that beyonces fans are genuinely fucking hysterical in a REALLY bad way. they can't even handle people saying "yeah, her music is nice" because you aren't screaming ripping your hair out at the mention of beyonce. when lemonade came out i was friends with this guy who was really insane about beyonce and i said something like "it's a good album" and he was literally mad at me for not saying it's the best thing i've ever heard in my entire life. her fanbase has always put me off of her work. it's this allergy not even to criticism but to anyone who has a different opinion on beyonce than you do. they want to give her this untouchable goddess status when that's just ridiculous. she's a person and and is as fallible as the next person. she's remarkable because she's very talented and has had a huge impact on pop culture and the music industry but that doesn't mean we should treat her like she can do no wrong.

I think Tyla is only 22, I feel like this album is a good start. Not every artist is going to have a stellar body of work on the first try, I think she has time to learn and grow, and I would like to see her evolve over time. I definitely think she’s a star in the making and could benefit for some development…i think she didn’t need to release an album after water…she could have drop more single to carve her own sound.
