Doesn't seem like there is any punishment for a company that files false charges against innocent customers who used their services! Don't do business with Hertz.
This happened to me - a rental loaner while my car was being repaired. I dropped the car off and left the key in the box. The next day, I got a call from Hertz threatening to have me arrested if I didn’t return their car. They later revealed, the car was not there - and pushed that they would report the car as stolen. I luckily had the habit of taking a photo or video of my rental drop offs - I did so because I worried, what if the car is damaged and they try to blame me? I showed my video of the drop off to the investigator - who immediately checked the rental car place’s video surveillance recordings. Sure enough, a Hertz employee was seen driving the car off lot - they were running a huge scam. Take pics and videos; you never know when you may need it.
@@Jesusiscoming24 That explains exactly what is going on. The company is running a a nationwide insurance scam, and they've decided any lives or livelihoods they put at risk as a consequence is neglible. Good thing the media is covering. No one should ever do any business with them if they can avoid it. Also it should be the state or the federal government suing them.
The employee making the report to the police about the "stolen" car should be the one arrested and charged with false reporting. I DGAF if they're only following orders. They should be checking. I hope Hertz loses MILLIONS.
A mother was separated from her children, people had guns drawn on them and were hauled off to jail, and a woman lost her license for a year. How is Hertz still in business? Seems like an issue with the company and not just isolated incidents. The man saying he never even rented a Hertz had me crying laughing, Wth! This is beyond insane. I hope all of them bust the brakes off Hertz and get PAID!
@@TheSuperPsychoKiller What about people who travel regularly? Fly across the country or to another country and need a car for their stay there? Seems the best thing to do is for Hertz to stop calling police because of their own incompetence. Nobody should have to worry about something like this.
@@TheSuperPsychoKiller lots of people get rentals when their car they invested in gets work done after being in wrecks or obtaining damage from acts of mother nature. The rentals are paid for by insurance they are FORCED to invest in.🤨
lol. This is hertz what 3rd major scandal? Second in the least after being busted to forcing people to pay higher prices than they were quoted and refusing to accept renters personal insurance. Also, they have a habit of setting you up for a rental then claiming they overbooked, but they can get you in one today for sure for just about $1k extra. Steve Lehto did a story on that last issue just last week.
I rent from Hertz. After seeing this, never again. Scares me to think how their own incompetence could land me in jail. Not worth it. Over the years I had Hertz rental cars stolen on two occasions -- one in California, the other in NYC. In both cases Hertz tried to bill me for the full value of the cars. American Express told them to go pound sand and collect it from their own insurance company.
I said the same thing never again from Hertz and we were the VIP customers because we rent it from them so much but never again not after this thank the Lord none of this ever happen to ask as long as we rent it from Hertz for years
This happened to my daughter a few months ago. She rented a car from Hertz LAX. The Los Angeles police pulled guns on her and everything. Thank God she had the rental papers in the glove compartment! Long story short; months prior, Hertz reported the car stolen in Oregon and never reported they got the car back. Basically they rented her a "stolen" car.🤦 Yes, she filed a lawsuit.
Sulfen you might want to complain to your insurance company or get new insurance because it didn't save the lady who used her insurance to get a hertz rental and lost her real estate license for a year. Better to be safe then sorry.
In the eighties, one of my best friends, a wounded Korean War veteran, was a beloved area executive at Hertz. (he is long deceased) Nothing happened in his section without his knowledge, and he would spend time talking to the customers at the rental stations even though he was in the big office, and handwrote Christmas cards to the customers he met. This kind of thing would never have happened back when even corporations were allowed to care about customers. Welcome to the modern world where people are basically another worthless number to anyone.
So...paths have risen to the tops of so many companies because of how stupid and political employment and advancement is. Capitalism can only succeed with conscientious people on top, but those are the people who won't make the company the most money because they won't treat customers and employees like dirt.
We rented a car from Hertz 2 years ago. Showed up when scheduled to take possession, did the walk around and was free to go. Engine light came on right after we left town so we brought it to the nearest Hertz. They took the Sorrento, gave us a Durango with 8 miles on it. I remember looking at my friends thinking we’ve lucked out. We have a brand new car for the next week. The vacation was fantastic and we returned the Durango to our original pickup location a week later, on time. They asked us where the Sorrento was. We told them what happened and they said they have record of us renting a second vehicle not returning one and picking up another. We were like “why would we do that, it’s just 3 of us in the car?” She said “I don’t know why. People rent cars all the time. We are gonna need that Sorrento back or you will be charged for it.” It was almost surreal, like we were all staring at each other waiting for her to start laughing. She said she was going to have to involve the police. Standing there, we called the other Hertz. The woman who answered said she didn’t remember a Sorrento/Durango “swap out” and she was there all day the day we did it. This whole time, my friend who stood quiet, remembered he shot a video of us pulling away from the 2nd Hertz in the Durango saying goodbye to the “Sorry Sorrento”. We showed her the video, she said she’d look into it and that we could leave. Got a call saying they found the car on a airport backlot waiting to be “serviced for its issues”. She was sorry for all the inconvenience and thanked us for our business. To this day, I’m certain we would’ve either had to pay for the Sorrento or be in jail if we didn’t have that stupid little video. NEVER AGAIN HERTZ
I had a similar situation. I rented a midsize car for a month and they gave me a Toyota Corolla after 2 days the headlights started turning on and off at night so i drove to the nearest Hertz and they only had a Cadillac CTS with 140 miles on it so they gave it to me and i was also so happy because they said that it's for the price of the Corolla. I even liked the car so much that i decided to extend the rental for one more month by calling them and asking them to make sure the price won't change if i extend it for one more month and they guaranteed me it will be same price as the Corolla. Than when I took the car back they tried charging me $2100 for a luxury car instead of the $800 i was supposed to pay. I had to sit there speak with the manager it took 2 hours but they finally lowered the price back to $800 because i tricked them and told them that i am a reporter with channel 7 news and i will let everyone know about their scams on the next news broadcast and it worked they instantly lowered it and gave me a 3 day free rental of any car i would like on the lot and for fun i took the Dodge Challenger R/T for 3 days.
@@AviationNut Hahaha!! Yes!! She offered us a free weekend rental or free luxury upgrade but it was a big no from us. Just had a feeling something else negative would happen like random charges when we turn the car in. No thanks. Glad you were able to get out of it and enjoy your freebie.
You should have hid the video until they arrested you and the court case came then sue them for pain and suffering saying oh look I just found the video.
This story should not be a CBS Mornings exclusive story, It should be aired all over the US.I cannot imagine getting arrested for a stolen car inside or outside of the US. Hertz - never again.
Ikr! There's those of us who are law abiding in EVERY aspect of life simply because we're good people, but also because we can't mentally or emotionally endure arrest & jail time. This is some frightening BS!
Where is the FTC or any governmental agency to punish Hertz or any car rental for this type of abuse? Yank their rental license which will render their staff jobless..threaten them with that and l will bet Hertz will come to the bargaining table.
@@FriarPop Personally, I don’t think the existence of a corporation should be any excuse whatsoever. I’m going to assume that this isn’t a situation where the clerks did this on purpose so they were following instructions from someone higher up who is responsible to get it right.

Lets not get carried away here. I think it depends on the damages. I would take it on a case by case basis. For example, the realtor who lost a year of her license, I think she has a good case, but you can't just give everyone millions of dollars. Mistakes happen and we don't have all the facts.
@@Jimraynor45 case by case basis, a company is using our justice system as a cash recovery system, they need to be out of business and the board in jail. No excuses.

I’m not going to use Hertz from now on. At least until they fully clean this up and compensate the victims. I think victims such as the ones in this video must be compensated a million dollars at least per person. 40 days in jail?? A year of losing a real estate license?? Yeah… talk about DAMAGES, to property, body, mental, and etc…
My experience was a nightmare and Hertz didn’t care. We were going on a long trip and we reserved a Toyota van. We picked it up the night before we left and packed the vehicle for a predawn departure. The next morning about 7 miles into our trip we noticed an engine warning light come on, so we went to Hertz and they replaced the vehicle and we departed Kentucky for Texas. A week later we return and find out we’ve been charged for both vehicles and they have no record of the first vehicle being returned. An hour later after showing photos of the first vehicle and the odometer, the incompetent employee finally decided to admit I returned the first vehicle and magically found the paperwork. The photos saved me. I will never rent a vehicle from Hertz again under any circumstances.
It sounds like cars are rented through the individual insurance companies & there isn’t proper follow ups because cars are driven inter state, therefore it’s very difficult to track the issues. The policy insurance companies are failing to maintain communication with the car rental companies to keep up with the status. That’s why Hertz is filing car stolen reports. It’s got a big deal to do with the insurance companies not keeping the renters/policy holders up to date with Hertz. Hertz looks like the rental cars aren’t getting paid by the insurance companies and then chaos is happening. This means that if someone is renting a vehicle for longer terms, they should maintain communication with Hertz about their own status. Usually when dealing with insurance companies, they tell people it’s fine, all is good but it’s not even confirmed. This could be more of an insurance problem than a Hertz problem.
That mom that spent 40 days in jail, I really hope she sues their a$$ off, and the others that were wrongly arrested. That is just unacceptable on Hertz behalf.
My husband and I rented from Hertz in LV and drove to Seattle. We decided to extend the rental BEFORE it was up, and the lady that helped us said their system didn’t even show that we had rented it . She said that it was good that we showed up because it would have been reported stolen! They DEFINITELY have systemic issues. I hope that all of these people win their lawsuits! DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!
It’s because the pos system is from the early 90s. I used to work there. Paperwork was so needlessly hard and frustrating. I can’t believe how cheap that company was. Hertz is the worst
Idk. I have a feeling that it's something as simple as someone misinputting information or missing a few key strokes. Unfortunately, their mistakes will lead to life changing circumstances for the party on the other side of that faulty information. Should they be reprimanded for not doing their job thoroughly and correctly, sure. Prosecution? Idk about that. Most of the time stuff like this is much more innocent than it seems. The company should take the responsibility for this as they probably have cheap software systems that doesn't go through proper data confirmation checks to insure all inputted information is correct. HOWEVER, it could be something much more sinister...I'm just making an educated guess that it's human error w/out proper procedures to avoid malpractices.
This is unacceptable. Avoid Hertz. This is a leadership problem. A business is only as good as their supervisors/owners/managers. They will soon be out of business when they start losing money.
I definitely agree but didn't they also made a huge investment on Tesla vehicles for rent. Who's to say most people will ignore what's going on just to rent those Tesla's.

In their statement, Hertz didn't even acknowledge the suffering or embarrassment of any of the customers that had those negative experiences. Shameful.
@@OrbObserver Absolutely, you're right but from a business perspective, it could end up costing them less to admit liability, settle in court and apologize to the public because right now the company is facing a "media nightmare" they may never recover from. I definitely will never rent a car from Hertz again--I don't want to be the next victim of Hertz' inability to keep accurate auto rental records. Hertz employees who wrongfully submit false stolen vehicle reports to LE should be the ones in jail, including the Hertz supervisors who oversee or approve such false stolen vehicle reports.
They're filing false police reports. No matter who you rent a car from you should document everything from beginning to end. Video everything. Tell them what you're doing and why you're doing it. Make sure you film the faces of everyone involved in the transaction including your own. Film yourself giving the car back to the company and handing them the keys.
If it’s “isolated” and “very rare” then how about Hertz agreeing to give $25 million in compensation to every individual falsely accused of stealing a rental? After all, if it’s rare, it shouldn’t total to very much money.
I appreciate you telling us this story. I had planned on using Hertz for a car rental next month and will now look into other companies. I couldn't afford to get arrested and lose my job for something like that. Shame on Hertz.

try to take video of everything if possible. The employees at Enterprise singled me out & rented to me a car that they knew was missing the set of spare keys. They paperwork even said they gave me 2 sets of keys, but they didn't. they tried to charge me for it, but I got out of it. They likely pinned it on some other unsuspecting customer.
I am a former Enterprise employee. They are definitely more expensive though nothing like this occurs. I rented once from Hertz and went through weeks of incorrect charges as no one checked in my car at an airport. I was lured in by lower prices and won’t go back.
Hertz is one of the worst to rent cars. Overly charged. I’m always fear for even renting for couple days. This company is like Repro restoration in MN. It’s a scammers!!
I had a very expensive ticket on a rental car that was from the previous renter, over a 12 hr drive from where I rented and 14 hrs from where I drove the rental. Despite time stamped gas and other receipts and the impossibility of being where the ticket was issued, I was forced to pay the ticket. I still don't understand why common sense and receipts weren't enough and I still get nervous renting a vehicle, from a business that is considered a hospitality service.
They used to one of the better companies. I’ve always avoided it because it’s prices were. I guess it’s in steep decline in the last decade. And I think they went bankrupt. Buying a bunch of Teslas won’t fix this.

Hertz cannot keep track of its cars and just reports them stolen when they misplace them as a business practice. They need to be fined heavily and sued for damages.
SOME TIPS When Renting: 1. ALWAYS no matter the rental company, get a check-in/return receipt. 2. Upon returning, take pics with the vehicle and also the license plate. 3. If it's after hours, call customer service and make sure that they have you down as having returned the vehicle and get a receipt emailed to you immediately. 4. Lastly, check with your credit card company to make sure your charges have stopped. If you keep a rental car over the allotted days, they continue to charge the card that they have on file. These are just a few things that I have had to use in times past with rental companies. Gotta stay protected... This country's moral compass is spinning out of control. 😕 Please be safe.

Thankfully, my rental experiences have never gone this bad. However, there was a time that Hertz told me my rental was never returned and that I needed to contact the police to notify them that it was missing. After a week of paying $100/day for a missing car (and me calling them every day extremely concerned), I was finally able to speak to a competent manager. @@garethHK808 yes, it usually comes as an email but my receipt was never sent. That was one of the reasons I ended up calling them. Plus, I started getting extra charges. I was told they needed to follow up on the car’s location and that in the meantime I should report the car missing. I was concerned that they were going to drain my account until the car was found. It still falls on the corrupt cops. There's no excuse if the people had their rental agreements. A lot of cops act like dumb weapons. Just because you got a call, doesn't mean the person calling wasn't a liar, or mistaken. INVESTIGATE!
We rented a car from them and as soon as we arrived at our location in NY we got a ticket for expired tags, which was extremely embarrassing. Then during our trip the vehicle started to shake to the point we feard for our safety. We took the car to a local hertz and they didn't have another mini van to trade ours for so they checked the tires and told that they would pay the ticket for the expired tags. It was a horrible experience. NOTHING LIKE what has happened to the people in this storie but... please beware of this car rental company. They are extremely negligent.
We rented a car in Florida last spring from Hertz. The only problem we had was the back tire making a deep sound. We were worried something was going to happen,
I would hope they would sue Hertz for millions, but the police too. If they had rental paperwork, there's no excuse for these bad cops. The people at Hertz should have been arrested for a false report.
This is insane, I hope people see this report and never rents from hertz again. If this is how they are treating innocent customers then they should be shut down or at least have to shut down due to financial issues caused from lack of customers.
Working at Hertz right now and I saw the opposite extreme happen here a few months ago. An ex employee brought his gang of losers to the lot at night and stole cars from the lot because we never changed the gate code. He did it over a couple of months and it amounted to dozens of stolen vehicles. They didn't steal the cheap ones either. I asked the boss how so many vehicles could be missing before we noticed (the only reason we even noticed was because they stole an Escalade we had specially set aside for a big customer). He said that the company is reluctant to report them stolen because it could be an oversight and the vehicle could be in an unexpected place or was not checked in properly and they don't want a situation like the ones above.
I'm so glad this is finally happening to Hertz and only disappointed it's taken this long for enough people to speak out. They charged me 300 for a car rental I paid for my uncle who was flying out to visit me. When my uncle goes to pick it up, they charged his card another 300 after asking for his card to put on file. It took months of arguing back and forth with Hertz and the bank, but the bank eventually gave him his money back after apparently employees were pocketing off the book charges. I will never fk with Hertz again. Straight criminals run that "business". Let that whole thing burn.
You know this really makes me wonder. What if certain scumbag employees are reporting cars as stolen so that they can then rent them out under the table and pocket the money? It wouldn’t surprised me, this is way too common and widespread to just be a simple mistake by some employees.
The cops are equally at fault for believing the theft claim without evidence. If someone reports a car as stolen after they let a friend borrow it, the cops get suspicious about the theft claim if the friend has no criminal record and seems genuinely flabberagsted. It should be no different with a rental car company.
Yep, saw this on RUclips in LA yesterday. Poor woman was surrounded by cops with guns drawn, helicopter overhead. She rented the car at 6pm and less than 3 hours later was arrested for felony theft. Hertz is 100% liable. A very well-known RUclips lawyer Steve Lehto has done a story on this recently as well. Hertz is a horrible company to do business with.

They tried to pull this crap on me in 1998 when I went to PA for my aunts funeral, I kept all my receipts, I had my lawyer contact them and they withdrew the charges so I didn't file suit; I had used their park and pay service it was relatively new then, I am guessing most of these people used this feature at the airport, I will never again use self check out with a rental car even if I'm running late for my flight, I'll roll the dice as it is far cheaper to catch a different flight than fight criminal charges.
This happened to my dad when I was about 5 months pregnant with my daughter. At least 5 cop cars pulled us over in a parking lot with guns drawn and it was absolutely terrifying and ridiculous. They arrested my father for stealing the rental car and towed it. They’re a horrible company
From someone who was a former employee... Hertz business practices were unprofessional and unethical. They're sales practices were aggressive and dementing to the customer. All they cared about was profit. And then there is this...
There must be a person that filed the police report - there is a name on that report - go after them personally. That's when they start taking there job seriously
No. They should pay her three times her lost annual income as compensation, then add that amount double as restitution for making a false accusation, considering the implications and the trauma they inflicted, then they should pay the same amount to the state she lives, where they made these false accusations.
That would be evil regulation if the government told businesses they can’t arrest you. We would all be unemployed if companies couldn’t do this stuff, right?
I MYSELF WILL NEVER RENT FROM HERTZ. I THINK ITS AN INSIDE JOB!! I THINK SOME OF THE EMPLOYEES ARE DOING THIS AS A CHOP SHOP RING OR SENDING THEM OVERSEAS AND SELLING THEM FOR DOUBLE THE AMOUNT! BUT ITS JUST MY OPINION I HAVE NO PROOF..IM NOT A DETECTIVE!
A few years ago my husband and I rented a car in Florida from Thrifty which is a subsidiary of Hertz. 10 months later we were notified by our insurance company that they filed a claim that we totaled the car. Stating that the engine was seized due to water damage. I happened to have kept my receipt and was able to prove by the mileage at the time I returned the car was less than at the time of the claim, showing that the car was driven after I returned it. If I had not kept my receipt, we would have been liable for the damage to that car.
I will never rent a car from Hertz again. They accused us of damaging a car once but we had kept all of the paperwork stating that it was turned in without a scrap but they were trying to con us into giving them a large sum of money. I wrote them back showing evidence that the car was cleared of any damage…and, funny….never heard from them again. I am heartsick that this young mother has been robbed of precious time with her infant son. I hope that they will be held liable. Although, nothing can repay her the lost time with her children. Sad.
Same ! Also for us it was something underneath the car that was damaged they claimed . How something under a car gets damaged idk. But for the car we got it was just returned and they didn’t have time to probably check it when it was brought back before giving it to us.Thankfully we ended up not paying anything after a lot of back and forth . But still was a bit scary. And now I’m overly cautious when renting a car.
I've used Hertz on a few occasions and each time I've been overcharged because they claim the car was not returned on time. When I provided a time-stamped photo of when I delivered my vehicles they quickly refunded my money. I learned a costly lesson and have photographed all my rentals at pick-up and at delivery. These companies will scam as much as they can get away with it.
I've had the same issue with a couple of Uhauls. They will charge an extra day or even two because they're "too busy" to log in a return or will try to lie about circumstances. And if you insist on sticking around to get a return receipt, they will make sure you wait 1-2 hours to "teach you a lesson". I've learned the hard way that it's just better to pay the extra money for Penske to avoid the drama and dishonesty at Uhaul.
@@audreycumby1075 I live in Phoenix and had a motorcycle in Vegas so I rented a car for a day to drive up there and get it. After I dropped the rental off, I took an Uber to get to my bike. The bill for the rental was double so I called to complain about it (I rent cars from them all the time) and he wanted me to text him my Uber data as the Vegas location manager was lying about when it was returned. If I didn't take an Uber, they probably wouldn't have fixed the bill.
It’s not just Hertz. I had a friend rent from another car rental place and she was put into jail for the night because they had reported the car stolen and hadn’t cleared it when it was returned by the previous customer. This needs some legislative action.

People should also record the rental exchange with the employee.
Sounds like Hertz is running an insurance scam, and have to file a report to get the cash.
Agreed
Yup.

Should they be reprimanded for not doing their job thoroughly and correctly, sure. Prosecution? Idk about that. Most of the time stuff like this is much more innocent than it seems. Hertz is one of the sketchiest companies to do business with. Rent a car from literally ANYWHERE ELSE! Hertz needs to go out of business.
They will. They will get what they have given, period
Did you contact law enforcement? That's creepy that a employee would do that. 😳 Take legal action.
It always hurts to try Hertz.
That is creepy!
That is horrible.

What’s really scary about this story is how quick the police arrest and jail them without proper evidence.
They have the information given as a stolen car, it’s all on Hertz, police are just doing their job, don’t really have a choice, but maybe if they are aware of how many false reports there are, they could make a judgement call
@@hankdieselify wut? No. There's no reasonable suspicion the customers stole the car. They don't have it in their possession and hertz clearly either disabled gps or hides the data that proves the customer dropped it off and is not in possession (and then there's the security footage that exonerates them or was deleted).
@@hankdieselify If there is no evidence of the car having been hotwired, and the suspect has the keys, as well as the rental agreement (after all, they are driving a car owned by a "car rental company"), police should quickly realize that this is a commercial dispute, and therefore a civil case, rather than felony GTA or something similar.
Foe somebody to spend forty days in jail over such a dispute is outrageous. The police department jailing her for this long also has a lot to answer for.
Unless there is something more to the story that is being left out. I wonder.
@@hankdieselify Rental cars all have paperwork that shows when the car was rented and when it is supposed to be returned. There is no excuse. Stop defending corrupt stupid cops.
I no longer trust police. I've been wrongfully arrested, wrongfully detained, mistakenly had guns drawn on me. All separate incidents years apart...but Jesus cmon man
“It cares deeply about its customers.” If you really did care, you would own up to your actions and make it right. Hertz is an expensive place to rent cars anyway. I hope they all get justice.
Public just needs to stop renting from them. Justice served.
Don’t rent from hertz because it may really hurt!
If you read their reviews it's pretty obvious they don't care anyway. Idk what their problem is but it's probly about time they go by the way side when they start getting their customers arrested on purpose and just say 🤷♀️.
Yup knowing this I won't rent from them again
They're carrying......like the government.
So who's arresting hertz employees for the false claims?
The woman that lost her real estate license for a year needs to sue for all the potential loss she could have earned. That could be millions.
Same with the lady with young kids that was locked in jail for 40 days. Imagine the mental damage to those little ones, that could potentially carry long term effects.
KingRidge ...Exactly. This situation DEFINITELY took years off her life with the stress alone! She had a TWO MONTH OLD BABY at home when she went to jail for 40 days. It’s unconscionable. The mental anguish and false imprisonment alone deserves millions.
I don't understand what happened with the Justice system, especially if you carry proof
@@thefirstkingridge We have a "for profit" justice system just like we have a "for profit" health care system. Guilty before proven innocent. If you have no money in this system, you have no value.
She can’t sue because she was legitimately in the wrong! That’s why she lost her license for a term. She didn’t return the vehicle when it was supposed to be returned and did not inform Hertz or communicate with them a desire to update the original agreement. After failing to get a response from her or recover the vehicle they then rightfully reported the vehicle as stolen! And Hertz had the law on their side, and she did not and that’s why she didn’t and won’t sue Hertz because SHE violated the contract!
A class action lawsuit is needed. Do they know how bad this can potentially end up for one of those drivers? Hit them where they hurt. Absolutely disgusting!
They absolutely know, they know that in any of these situations they can get someone killed yet they obviously don't seem to care.
Here’s one thing though. One of the people never even rented from Hertz and was jailed with a felony. That is most alarming!!
@@theknow7557 im confused how did he get inside a hertz car then lol

They're filing false police reports. No matter who you rent a car from you should document everything from beginning to end. Video everything. Tell them what you're doing and why you're doing it. Make sure you film the faces of everyone involved in the transaction including your own. Film yourself giving the car back to the company and handing them the keys.
@@PerfectPrinceX1 He didn't. That's what's so F up about it.
Sending the cops after someone who is innocent is false imprisonment and should be a felony. Same for "SWATting" someone.
Don't depend on them honoring a reservation, I ended up in a strange location and they abandon me, one dealer doesn't speak for another, don't make that mistake and trust their mismanagement.
try to take video of everything if possible. The employees at Enterprise singled me out & rented to me a car that they knew was missing the set of spare keys. They paperwork even said they gave me 2 sets of keys, but they didn't. they tried to charge me for it, but I got out of it. They likely pinned it on some other unsuspecting customer.
Yes, I just switched from Hertz, to another company. Was with hertz over 30 years. They honored my gold plus rewards points. Cool. Bye bye hertz
Don't use ENTERPRISE cus they pulled that stunt on me!
I would own part of Hertz! Congress should step in!
Always rent National. Hertz is a dump.
I always get a receipt... always
They used to one of the better companies. I’ve always avoided it because it’s prices were.
I guess it’s in steep decline in the last decade. And I think they went bankrupt.
Buying a bunch of Teslas won’t fix this.
I will not use Hertz to rent a car. I have heard of rental car places doing tactics such as this. Glad I never chose them ! So All I have to say is, "Let's not go to Hertz!"
Hertz needs to be held accountable. This has been going on for YEARS.
Are you serious? That's so beyond ridiculous 🤦🏾♂️ What about the people who couldn't afford to rebound after their arrest? Oh I'm sick to my stomach about this.
I’m glad nobody got killed over this .... but I know I will not rent from them anymore
As if this story couldn't get any worse, then the guy comes on who has NEVER even rented from them and got arrested for it?! Dude...Hertz is in TROUBLE now. 😬
Exactly. How in the world did this happen? That means any person in the world who has an account with hertz, can be arrested.
The story could get worse when the police end up killing somebody who has no clue what's going on.
@A Mess of Things OMG
@@Liquethemodel I'm not sure what you mean by that, it's well documented that once guns get drawn that sometimes police accidentally shoot people. Probably his identity was stolen. That would be the most plausible reason.
Hertz cannot keep track of its cars and just reports them stolen when they misplace them as a business practice. They need to be fined heavily and sued for damages.
Oh my gosh, losing 40 days with your 2-month-old makes my heart hurt!
SOME TIPS When Renting:

He told me the car had been taken to maintenance after I returned the car and someone forgot to put that in the system. 😡

I rented from hertz (many times) and I got a certified letter out of the blue, claimed I had caused 12K in damages, when I rented it 9 months earlier. Because I have to keep records for business, I had the return receipt, regardless they demanded I pay. My attorney sent a firm letter, with all copies and they let up. I wonder how many people did not have proof and were forced to pay.
We were worried something was going to happen,
Maybe this is a reason they are bankrupt.

What a great advertisement AGAINST Hertz. Obviously, everyone needs to stop renting from this company. I hope those responsible spend time in jail!
I would hope they would sue Hertz for millions, but the police too. If they had rental paperwork, there's no excuse for these bad cops. The people at Hertz should have been arrested for a false report.
The bottom line is DON'T rent a vehicle from Hertz. I won't.
Let’s all bring the “Hert” to their income and refuse to rent cars from Hertz both in solidarity with the victims and for our own safety
This is insane, I hope people see this report and never rents from hertz again. If this is how they are treating innocent customers then they should be shut down or at least have to shut down due to financial issues caused from lack of customers.
The word's gotten around so I'm sure Hertz is taking a huge hit over this.
So in other words hertz is not doing proper job
This is why Avis tries harder, maybe.
The power of companies to sick police on regular citizens is terrible. Should be criminal charges at the top level management.
They get special privileges you or I could never.
To be fair anyone can do that, company or otherwise. People have falsely accused and had others charged knowing full well the accusations are false.
And police aren’t for the people. Never have been no matter the slogans.
The cops are equally at fault for believing the theft claim without evidence.
If someone reports a car as stolen after they let a friend borrow it, the cops get suspicious about the theft claim if the friend has no criminal record and seems genuinely flabberagsted.
It should be no different with a rental car company.
Sic (sic)
Yep, saw this on RUclips in LA yesterday. Poor woman was surrounded by cops with guns drawn, helicopter overhead. She rented the car at 6pm and less than 3 hours later was arrested for felony theft.
