Silverado guy clearly you want ppl to think you did or believe you did or else you wouldn't have responded to me! But anyway I know the truth you obviously never did 81 mph on a 400ex lmfao 🤣 you sir are liar! I hope you do realize that a quadzilla 500, 700r raptor and a mildly modified banshee have extremely hard times reaching 80mph! And those bikes would smoke any 400ex I don't care who you are. Get your shit straight or have proof don't talk out your ass.. make a video and post it! So what next your daughters power wheel does a hundred miles an hour lmfao. You would have to have severe modifications done to that 400ex to even hit 75mph lmfao get out of here with your lies lies lies lmfao 🤣🤣🤣
I’m pulling 16/32 gearing like it’s stock gearing lol. Can’t keep the front down. Best mod I did was and EHS Racing/Outerwares airbox lid when I put on an HMF full exhaust and a UNI air filter. Thank me later! Haha.
I'm building/restoring same year right now and my bore and stage 2 valves put me at 416 I have a stage 2 cam but I'm not running it because it has rust on it
Thanks Evan. Low hour 400EX’s are hard to come by around here. They usually have had the snot beaten out of them and are littered with cheap half done mods.
I had an 01 yellow 400ex with exhaust and headers. Then I had an 04 450r which was way faster. Neither of them never came close to 70 mph. That 450r was fast, but I could ride wheelies for days on my 400ex.
If you don’t mind me asking, where in the US do you live? It’s always been my dream to move to the Desert where there’s not too many people around. I’ve got a couple bikes, quads and an 01 400EX, and I always wanted to go desert riding. I love the extreme heat too, so that usuallly doesn’t bother me. I live in Lebanon, PA, which is basically just farmland everywhere, and it’s all I’ve known my whole life. I was looking at places like Moab, Utah, and it appears to be a riders paradise, however, it’s become too commercialized over the past few years and too many people are out there. If I could find a place that’s remote like this, but isn’t too insanely off the grid, I’d move in a heartbeat. Great video, glad too see your 400 is still going strong!
From the State of Nevada. Lots of good rural places to live and do off roading. Especially between Las Vegas and Reno. I heard Arizona is another good desert state but it’s a bit too hot there for me.
Bass Aholics mine drives very smooth on the street in a straight line. The steering fights me on turns because of the aggressive off road tires and fixed rear axle.
I have a 2001 raptor 660 and I used to ride 450s. The 450s are amazing quads but the raptor is on a whole different level. It’s really hard to ride on slow trails because of how high strung it is and you have to stay on the clutch a lot to keep it from dying. I am thinking about getting a 400 just because I want something a little more trail worthy. But top speed on the raptor is 92 but with the old carb in it would go 94.
Ya my 450 is geared for racing and power I did a test on it it puts out 52 HP runs 83+ wheelies in 1st to 5th with no problem pulls holeshots in 4th gear I blew a 05 raptor 660r away and ate a banshee it's not a bike to mess with
I’ve never ridden a quad in an urban setting so unfortunately my experience on pavement is limited. I personally don’t like how it feels on pavement, it feels goofy to turn and manuver but it could be my aggressive off road tires.
They are pretty peppy for how old they are. Especially if you weigh 175lb or less. If you are a big guy (200lb+) you may be better off on something like a Raptor or 450
I just bought one from a guy that I'm having worked on the engine runs fine is just the wiring is crap. But mine's a 2002 and I'm hoping to get some good speed out of it. The guy put some aftermarket parts on the front to widen out the front end and he put a longer swingarm on the back so I'm curious myself.
1st gear seems a hair too tall for tight trail riding, but the majority of my riding iis wide open desert so I don’t notice much. The low end feels great to me.
@@bradynstevens741 Nice! That’s my favorite upgrades (filter, exhaust, Jet kit). All the power I would like and rock solid reliability. I would love to race a Honda 450R quad one day but I don’t know anyone that has one.
@@MapleBoarder78 Facebook market place is the place to look if u are willing to travel 60 miles or so 50,50 on if its a nice quad so better be making plans for a small trip or two. Look for the amount of pictures more the better. If its dirty in the pics then they dont care about the vehicle, and prolly abused it. 85 percent of the time. Look for wear on the paint on the frame were ur feet rub. That will tell how much it has been ridden. Stand away from vehicle, and look to see if frame is bent that tells if its been rolled. When u test drive dont be shy. When u rev it up and let go and see black smoke bad, but if theres not good. Look for oil stain and leaks on the front of the engine. Not on the back mainly because if theres oil on the back and not the front then he just kept his chains lubed. AND ALWAYS LOOK FOR HOLES IN YOUR TIRES!!!! there always going to be wear and tear, but my mistake was that there is a small leak in one of my tires. And i have a nice quad, and it looks bad when I get it out. And have to air it up. It makes it 100 percent less cool. Thats all I know common sense but. It worked for me. But yah Facebook marketplace us great there are lots of people selling realy nice quads just because the tires are getting bald. Unlike Craigslist where u ask for the quad, and get the key and no quad lol
Sorry for the late reply. Pretty sure the front sprocket is two teeth bigger than stock. With the bigger rear tires that it has I’d rather go back to stock gearing. It’s a bit too doggy in 5th gear now.
They are both very reliable quads . Ltz has better preformance in a few things. But the trx is way more reliable because it has a simpler air cooled engine , I have a 2008 400ex and I am very pleased with it’s performance. If I ever get another quad it will be a raptor 700

I miss my 400. Had Curtis Sparks full exhaust, KandN filter, rev limiter and different sprockets. I could hit 77 all day. Best four wheeler ever
What size sprockets
What size sprockets?

Love these quads, I had an 04, miss it bad. I did quite a bit to mine, but it ran 81 on gps...nice bike.👍
Silverado Guy i have an 04 now that i’m trying to sell lol
Your tires probably reason why.
I doubt it did that!

85 all day with my 03
Put a new exhaust and carburetor Jets and you will gain more power and lower end power or torque
What I've learned is that you can fit your phone right under the seat and it stays there tightly while you can still see it
Do u mean tucking it under the front between front and gas tank?

Just travel 20 miles in any direction from Moab and you'll be plenty isolated.
Move to buttionwillow California
