- Sarah Reast and Phil Wilson are pitching their family's wooden mechanical kit business - 'Timber Kits'. The two are seeking an investment of £25,000 in return for a 15% equity stake but will any Dragon invest after discovering the company's lack of retail ambition?
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

Glad to see the company is doing well and that Touker is still involved
I was literally about to go investigate then saw your comment. I live in south wales and i have heard of them! They fo amazing bespoke sleighs at Christmas. Quoted me £400 for one for an event i was running!
Only just bought one of these from a small privately owned toy shop in Norfolk for my daughter. Great product and sensibly priced. Touker time has done this company good.
I think Touker is an emotional but appears to be a caring type and always giving people a chance & lifeline when he hears genuine background stories.
Agreed, he seems the most heart driven of them all.
You're absolutely right / he is definitely "an emotional". It comes from his time working in The Vatican. Pope's right hand man in the shade. Have you noticed the secret ties he wears_+

Peter was really pleased for them. Haven’t seen such a happy smile from him before.
I think he was laughing coz he hadn’t offered them office space in London.
Somewhere, somehow, Rory is out living his best life catching seaweed - long live Rory

Absolutely. Loved the guy. Unfortunately the lady owning the business didn't make a good impression.
No seaweed, no sales, no profit. That’s my daily mantra

According to Companies House Touker is listed as a co-director so looks like for once the investment has went through.

‘The Peter Jones show’
This is my most favorite product on the show ever. I'm a sucker for stuff like that.
I bought one of these after seeing them here on show I love the quirky gadget
Touker just loves offering more than they asked for.
And a cheeky bit of office space in London
Yeah, but he also likes even more to demand more equity share.
It's quite clever, he essentially reduces their valuation without outright saying it. I don't think anybody will be able to find a pitch where he offered more money at the same valuation as what the entrepreneurs said. It's always a bit more money, for a much bigger percentage whereas others would just offer the same amount of money for a bit more percentage and negotiate on that. People just see the £££ and not the bigger picture.
Fabinho sweeps up yeah I was thinking about that, they’re always on the spot and in shock so never seem to complain or even realize about the change in valuation. Sneaky Touker knows what he’s doing!
@@chrisdawe3027 In the shard.
One is wondering as to why Touker hasn't offered them his premises bang in the middle of Central London for the purpose of their own factory. 🤣

Touker's argument for outsourcing basically boils down to Chinese Labour being easier to exploit than a British Workforce
Why when it's chinese it's "labour" and when it's british it's "workforce"?
Well, it comes down to the wording. "Forced Labor" exists but not "force workforce"..
There you go
''in China they have longer working hours'' yes Touker, that's why we call them sweat shops 😂
They don't have a problem shipping work to China then critique the country's human rights.
Exactly talk about how horrible the human rights aspect is but everybody is going to China for production. Such hypocrites that’s why I dont blame China, were just as bad as the people that underpay their workers in horrendous conditions working unthinkable hours.
Chinese workers standard of living is growing 10 times faster than in the west.
🤣 people are really clueless about the efficiency and technological superiority of Chinese manufacturing. Westerners probably imagine little kids and old grannies carving these out by hand in a damp cave 🤣🤣🤣
KJ 2020 not me.. top top factories.
On a par if not superior to western world. However, Slave labour can still exist in this techno age.
Ie working hours,
Health and safety,
Environmental impact
This is why it’s so difficult for the west to compete with China. Where We are shackled by rules and regs they aren’t.
And the west support this with one hand, and rebut this with the other.
Ask any businessman or women whether they would live there permanently under the rules of the Chinese republic ?
If think the answer would be, NO!!!
Company still going, great website
Whats the website?
Such a lovely product and business, hope they succeeded in the end.
i will second that
Yes, definitely good potential here with making kits for schools etc. Getting more into to the ever-growing STEM market is going to be key into keeping it alive for many years to come I think though.
Wasn't her buisness. It was her dads .. doesnt count
@@bensmith5288 It doesn't matter, her dad is not immortal and the business has to keep on going to make sure his legacy survives far beyond. It's a family business, so it makes sense for the kids to keep it alive. What matters now is whether or not she succeeds, and I hope she does.

I think it'd be great for them to bring production back to Wales. They could pay their staff £1 an hour who would then live like kings.
BenjaminGoose love that
The problem with making anything in China is that you automatically have a direct competitor
Something doesn't seem right. These people seem to have valued their business PROPERLY.
The only way of making the product in UK that would be at least comparable to cost of making in CN would be if the product was made my machines, not by human labour so the costs of manufacture would consist only of electricity and machinery amortization over time (+rent for space needed to place the machinery). If the product was made by human hands then the cost would skyrocket...
classic deborah and touker fighting all the time over businesses it usually ends up with either one of them telling each other off
In fairness, it’s usually Deborah snapping at Touker. He’s a bit like an overgrown kid but I like his enthusiasm. Deborah, as much as I like her too, can be too moody.

What kind of Dragon investor would want to jump onto a 200k turn over that only increases by 20k per year? I get it for a smaller investor. Maybe someone with dumb money. But these deals rarely entice the Dragons. They have such huge portfolios that bring in bajillions of dollars. Once they get their cut from the profits of this business, they're only gonna be looking at a few hundred quid. This was a bit "all over the place". They wanted to grow, but stay small and niche. That's very specific business control. As opposed to just wanting to grow the business by having the product in several locations.
Yeah a lot of entrepeneurs seem to want 99% of the company for all of the money, for lack of better explanation.
I mean they seem to lack the general notion that they've gotta tickle the dragons' balls a little. And by that i mean make the investment interesting by the promise of significant returns, or failing that, giving the dragons a huge stake of a company that has a golden idea which would turn huge profits in the hands of a capable business person.
I still can't work out what these products are supposed to do
Oh dear????
It's not supposed to do anything other than stand there. It's a wooden model that moves about.

The welsh Jenkins made no offer or I missed when he went out ... :)
I read somewhere they aren’t very kids safe .. fingers getting stuck in the mobility parts
I’ve got a better idea make them disassembled flat in a box and sell them in high street toy shops I’d of loved to make one of those as a kid playing with it not so much but making and painting would be fun
They are disassembled, the customer builds them. They've got a great website
Celia G I didn’t even notice the little boxes just assumed they were prebuilt as they weren’t all small I like the bigger ones like the drummer and accordion
Still you got a good idea there. Why NOT sell in high street? This is a great way for a large portion of the population to get in touch with the past.
Although i will argue the QUALITY of these products do seem like they could do with improving. But this was recorded, what, 2 years ago?
Touker made an offer because he wants the company to make a kit that he can use to build a new London Office.
Touker just knows how to negotiate better deals. Thats why he thought differently
why do people only watch these during lunch. ive had to go give up my job due to shielding my dad who i live with one of the advantages of which is i get to watch DD clips from 10am through to the mid afternoon when i usually switch to rogue traders
Great message for the future here, I fully support capitalism, entrepreneurship and innovation, it can also promote and stimulate regional growth...just stop being greedy.
The U.K. dragons are cheaper. The shark tanks always take 50% of the company. That's basically like giving the company away

It's definitely time for EVERY Country to STOP using China to make our stuff. I'm in Australia and we want things made here more now. China has alot to answer but that's not the only reason. Making products in your own country is much better than outsourcing.
Perhaps Australia should stop exporting millions of tons of coal to other countries, that contributes substantially to the huge issue of climate change?

Why not sell as a build at home kit. I am sure children and adults would love to buy a kit and build it themselves. You would get collectors who would buy several.
I’m sure they are self build kits.
These people are investors which is fine, and can provide contacts, but it certainly seems odd that they’ll tell people off for not putting their all into a business for instance running another one at the same time even though there is no possible way the dragons can be involved in all the multitude of companies they own fully or partly, obviously they just delegate which is fine but doesn’t really gel with things they say to the small business owners.

These people didnt need to give away a third of their company for just 25k, they could easily have raised that finance without giving up equity. This is one of those companies I think should have believed in themselves more and they would grow anyway.
They should make it in Bognor Regis then they could advertise with a slogan ”Proudly produced in Bognor Regis”
They could produce it anywhere in the UK and put 'Proudly produced in ______' - It doesn't specifically have to be Bognor Regis. The place of production is irrelevant.

Certainly a likeable product but an investment with limited scope. I don’t think it will grow but at 30%, a steady income provider.
