For this video, I decided to watch 23 hours of Shane Dawson documentaries, so you can enjoy watching my brain slowly break down.
In Shane's documentaries, he talks about some of the greatest internet celebrities all time: Tana Mongeau (pronounced "mongeau", apperantly), Jeffree Star, Jake Paul, Eugenia Cooney, and best of all: NICK CROMPTON!! The LEGEND!

Like deciding what someone’s issue is so you can feel helpful isn’t being an empath it’s something that’s overlooked as a type of abuse. And considering he spent that series demonizing aspd and with countless proof did that exact thing to Trisha with her bpd (whether you like her or not) it makes it so much worse to me because it’s something commonly used to abuse cluster bs and people don’t care.

What I am the most uncomfortable about with Shane is how he is *always* portraying himself as being poor. Like... I'm poor. Literally. My family is below the poverty line. So to see him, a successful RUclipsr with a net worth of USD$12mil, with a massive home and strong financial security, act as if he's poor and has no money... it makes me feel sick.
Rich people just have this weird.... fascination, over acting like they're really not that rich, or try to act like they're one of us. But they arent. I don't know, I just hate it every time he makes a comment for the 30th time in a video about how "poor" he is.
It's cuz they're like "poor people hate rich people flexing so lemme pretend I'm poor instead, that should work, right?". But it takes some empathy to realize that what matters is humility, not this pathetic act - and people with the bare minimum of empathy don't bend over backwards reminding everyone they're empathetic after years of building content out of degenerate stereotypes, just sayin

@@samanthafullerton8095 Andrew helped edit the series but the style didn’t change much. I was always surprised that that was the quality a supposedly trained professional would produce, but it’s been made clear at points that Shane played a big role in the process.

@@NASkeywest well for me being a former Shane fan, I started watching him at his conspiracy theories and went from there so I was pretty new to his channel and I had no idea about the stuff he did but uh after everything came to light I unfollowed very quickly and I haven't looked back, do I miss his videos in some aspects yes but I will never ever respect and watch his videos ever again I am completely disgusted by what he has done

As someone studying to eventually go into the field of therapy it's kind of hard to listen to the way that Kati Morton say 'scary right?' when it comes to sociopathy- like I get it, she's probably playing it up for the camera, but like... Still. Come on. Your a therapist. Saying 'scary right' isn't going to help literally anyone

It really bugged me that they contacted Kati to be an “expert” on sociopathy when all her knowledge about the topic clearly comes from first year Psychology courses and reading the DSM.
She is in no way qualified as a family therapist to be diagnosing people. Any respective therapist would also not pretend they were qualified and would not say things like mental illness is “scary”.
If Shane actually wanted to talk about the subject, he should have brought in an actual qualified expert

Katie Morton does not have expertise in eating disorders, she's a marriage counselor. She was also the person that helped Jaclyn Glenn set up the intervention with Eugenia, so her acting like she didn't know what happened, and went to enabling her instead was super messed up.. Shane obviously wasn’t equipped either, but acting like the things that happened with Eugenia was only the fault of Shane, and that Katie had nothing to do with it.
I think the worst thing is with the eugenia series? If you check in on her you can clearly see she's just as bad if not worth than when she went to the hospital.
That series helped get her back to her same ways and made people think "oh shes okay now! We don't need to worry about her now." Like its incredibly sad how enabled she is
@@Wremson I think Eugenia would have probably spent more time getting therapy if Shane hadn't asked to make a comeback video about her. The whole thing was just a disaster. Healing from an eating disorder takes a long time and it's a lot harder to recover when you're in the public eye. If Katie Morton knew anything about eating disorders she probably would have advised not to broadcast a video focusing on someone's eating disorder to millions of people. I really hope Eugenia finds the strength to get help, but sadly I don't see that happening anytime soon.
Also no self-respecting mental health professional would ever go *undercover* to professionally diagnose someone, let alone for a goddamn vlog.

Also that entire series never mentioned that antisocial personality disorder (sociopathy) is developed from childhood trauma. And that most people with ASPD aren’t dangerous
I’ve seen footage where Shane even tried suggesting Garrett was a sociopath lol. I think Garrett likely has ADHD, or something that causes similar symptoms, based on what he’s shown and told us he’s struggled with but to suggest he’s a sociopath because he’s a bit impulsive and stuff was just absurd. Glad they’ve seemingly distanced from each other.
The fact that the whole documentary with a counsellor there never even mentioned psychopathy/ sociopathy isn't even the medical term anymore is so weird, like it's just ASPD, theres way too much misinfo about personality disorders...

As an actual therapist, it's so unprofessional for Kati to have even said any of those things. Let alone go along with the whole undercover diagnosis thing, especially since she's not a psychiatrist and doesn't specialise in ASPD. Also, an actual mental health professional going along with the whole premise of this series is so sketchy.
shes technically a therapist but not for what he was seeking her out for and she has plenty of problems of her own and should honestly not have any possibility of practicing as a therapist any longer

Please don’t say eating disorders are Katy’s expertise. She’s a family/marriage counselor. While she did give good and true points about handling eating disorders, she is not qualified to deal with them. Some of her advice and justification of Eugenia’s habits and relapses was extremely triggering, especially for me as a recovering anorexic.
Sorry that happened to you, love. But like. Yeah, a lot of her advice to Eugenia made me (someone in recovery) get real mad. That girl was so exploited, regardless of how she is now. Hope you have a nice night ☄🌟
Yea she literally knows nothing about EDs. I have one, arfid, and watched her video on it back when I was naive to her lack of professionalism. It was the worst advice I ever received and I walked away from the video learning nothing I didn't already know lol.

@Squidward honestly no matter how much i dislike shane, when his videos were demonetised i went back and watched a few of his “documentaries” and they’re much more entertaining than the ones i’ve seen on netflix... in saying that my standards are pretty low since Australian netflix sucks
I have to admit, that i did watch his stuff back then, of course before everything got exposed. But, I did think his content was much better than most vlogger content. Though I always disagreed with the netflix bit, but it seems like netflix has been adding everything and anything to their catalog these days so maybe lol. Anyways, I personally think his content was more 'reality tv' than anything else and never took any of them seriously, especially after the tanacon videos...
The "documentary" Shane made on Eugenia was actually extremely shitty of him. First of all, he used to make jokes and make fun of Eugenia in his previous videos and second of all, it was in no way shape or form healthy for Eugenia to come back to social media. She unfortunately seems like she's back at the same place she was before (maybe worse or getting worse) oh and also Kati Morton is just as shitty because she basically exploited Eugenia (in my opinion.) Kati was part of the 5150 on Eugenia because she sent emails back and forth with Jaclyn Glenn; she was the one who suggested Jaclyn go through with a 5150 on Eugenia. Then after all was said and done, Kati disappeared and when she reappeared she made this strange video with Eugenia that seemed like she was playing dumb and acting like she had no idea Eugenia was 5150'd

YESSSS EXACTLY ME. i was such a big fan at the time but i couldnt survive the jake paul documentary, it was so boring and forced, and i hated how sympathetic he was toward him. i remember starting to get bad vibes from his friendship with jeffree and telling myself he'd have to drop him or else he'd get sucked into this shit. i was right, but i know now that shane was always a asshole, he just hid it better before jeffree.

Yes, this annoyed me even back then, he was trying to build his career as a professional documentary maker but could not release his videos on time, when a lot of them were announced weeks before he was going to upload, or plan properly and just do the bare minimum to be professional.
I then remember when a fan pointed it out, he quote tweeted replied saying how hard he was working which caused all his fans to go harass her.
Like, just don’t make deadlines for yourself if you can’t make them. You have the control, you don’t have to announce a deadline. Just don’t announce a date for the video until it’s completely edited.

I hated all of the Jeffree Star documentaries. It was so painful just to go through all of them with basically the same premise. I know my sister watched all of them, but I couldn’t even do it for Jake Paul’s docu-series.

I watched the tana and jake one, but I just felt really awful after it. I wanted to see Tana be held to justice and find out what happened, I got one of those things. I wanted to know what Jake was really like, not if he's a fucking sociopath. I think to most adults, that one made it clear that he isnt a sociopath and in a way that kind of makes it worse. It means his actions were conscious and on purpose. That he's aware of how he fucked up and yet he seems completely indifferent. After that I realized that Shane was never going to hold them accountable, he knows nothing about the topics he's discussing and that its probably to help them, not bring justice to the people. Glad I didnt stick around to suffer the awful Jeffrey ones.
Shane wanted to try and help garrett but here we are where Shane is cancelled and Garrett is making a wonderful 90s bedroom, absolutely beautiful

When the beauty world series came out, I was so confused as to why Jeffree Star shuffling around the makeup was so amazing. I figured I didn't see it because I really couldn't care less about makeup (why did I watch the series? I was a loyal Shane fan at the time. Yeah, I'm embarrassed about that). I am SO GLAD that everyone else seems to think it's silly XD.

Seeing where Eugenia Cooney is now, i wholeheartedly believe that Shane’s documentary definitely was a turning point for her recovery into a downwards spiral. It is just so heartbreaking.
See the stuff where they demonized sociopathy pissed me off because it's crap like that that stops people from seeking help. How is it we still have so much stigma around mental health. Like my mom had bi- polar disorder but was afraid to get help or get diagnosed because of comments from other family members. Stigma around mental health ESPECIALLY things like schizophrenia, sociopathy (or similar disorders), and Bi-polar disorder keeps people from getting the help they need.

@@skylarsaysstuff these comments are driving me fucking crazy. my current bf is bipolar. he has depressive episodes and is sometimes impulsive. he takes his meds and doesn't harm people or cause problems. my ex boyfriend on the other hand has ASPD and he caused me horrible trauma and murdered animals for fun. people with psychosis are having a delusion that can lead to harming people, people with bipolar disorder can have impulsiveness that can lead to harm, people with aspd do it on purpose with no remorse. it is in the diagnostic criteria to be a disgusting person, if not a murderer, and only care about themselves. it is in the criteria to refuse to believe they have a problem and not take their meds. i will always be biased but we need to stop grouping it with other disorders because other disorders can be treated and the person can feel remorse for their actions. my ex still texts me wanting me back, but will still not apologize or acknowledge he was wrong, and i live my life in fear of being stalked or worse.

I actually really hated the editing in the conspiracy theory series. I hated how it kept jumping from story to story and kept cutting everything off to talk about a different subject and then he would go back to that original subject later. I really just would rather he talk about one conspiracy the whole way through and then go to another conspiracy and not just keep jumping from one to another constantly

I was a friends with a girl who loved him. I'd end up watching them with her and good lord I just never understood it. Only time I laughed was at him.
I'm so guilty of being wrapped up in shane's stupid docuvlogs. Like ew. LOL. I just got very into them and i fully liked how long they were - I think it was because I was on disability and home alone all day long and lonely and bored, and it was a really good distraction from that.
Personally, for me anyways, I grew up having a dad who had a horrible sense of humor (in the sort of racism humor) and so when I found someone that shared that sense of humor, it was familiar to me. I stopped watching Shane around 6 years ago, about a year after I first saw some of his videos, then went back when he started conspiracy theories the first time.
Overall I liked the theories and how Shane presented them. I liked the stupid stuff he did with a waffle maker, and I thought he was a funny dude. But then my blinds were opened and I saw that he was just...a man who reminded me a lot of my father still.
I watched and liked him and i have no idea how. I watched him when i was very young (he still made the food videos back then) and i warched it without understanding the jokes (my first language isn't english)
I feel like when I started watching him I was kinda young and didn’t really understand his content fully and enjoyed the jokes and later all my friends were really into his series so it was like keeping up with them and the internet. So probably just young teens who don’t understand and internet hype

In a lot of places we can't have 15-16 year Olds do some jobs because of the "danger" so there are laws set up to say "can't have a knife this big" or "can't use anything that has a handle like this" or whatever so they changed things enough to have young teens work there

I hate to tell you this, but you forgot to mention the worst documentary of them all: Graveyardgirl. Bunny comes off as really entitled and bratty. The entire documentary was ruined at the very end, with Garret "scarring" everyone and Bunny getting all upset (even though she scared Shane just minutes before). I am really interested in what you have to say about that documentary, as it pissed me off EXTREMELY when it came out.
