  • Today, I reveal all. I disclose my personal longevity plan...for March 2022. I show you what I eat, how I eat, what exercises I do, what supplements I take, and what interventions I employ.
I get questions all the time asking me to talk about what I do to fight aging. What and how I eat. What supplements do I take? What strategies do I implement? So, in this video, I've decided to answer those comments and share my personal longevity plan. I'll even talk about some interventions that I'm not currently doing, but that look very interesting and that I'm thinking about implementing in the future.

Lance you look fantastic, would not have put you at 72. You put some 52 year olds to shame 🙂. I fell into IF and mostly plant based way of life about three years ago, about 56 years of age. Totally changed my life. No more brain fog and got rid of meno weight. I feel amazing. I acquired a demanding yoga practice over 20 years ago because I determined then that mobility would inform quality of life later. I do ashtanga so lots of body weight movement, backbends and arm balances. The one thing that I would also mention is to challenge the synapses of the brain regularly. I returned to dance about five years ago and learning difficult routines makes me use my memory and also improves neuromuscular pathways. Doesn't have to be dance can be chess or puzzles or whatever but brain challenge is important.

Thanks for the information. As you mentioned, we all have to find what works best for us. I am 54 and have been advising people to continue physical activity for most of my adult life. I was inspired by older relatives who maintained their health by walking around my hometown into their 80s and 90s. I also wanted to make sure that the common ailments I saw in older people there (such as diabetes and high blood pressure) would not be a problem for me. I have gone through a variety of fitness activities based on limitations caused by injuries to both knees and ankles. However, I continue to remain active and hope to get back to inline skating at some point. I even posted a video of my vertical jump test on RUclips. My goal is to remain active for the rest of my life in hopes that I will be able to avoid physical problems and health issues that so many older people experience.

@@LanceHitchings Lead is a common cause of high blood pressure. This has only been recognized recently. Google: "Low-level lead exposure and mortality in US adults: a population-based cohort study". Turns out, low level lead is likely responsible for 412,000 annual deaths in the US. That is approaching the 480,000 death toll from tobacco.
Scientists knew high levels of lead caused high blood pressure, but they did not know low levels also elevate blood pressure or otherwise cut lives short. Common foods with high lead content are carrots, yams, rice, chocolate, grape products, especially balsamic vinegar, apple, pear, and grape juice (yes, I mentioned grape twice).
And there is the usual environmental stuff:
      1. Avoid produce/spice gardening next to buildings, walls, or fences that have been painted with lead paint in the past. And that should include fences that have been replaced or removed that were painted with lead paint. You can use elevated planters with soil from somewhere else in those locations, if the current paint is not lead and is in good shape.
      2. Lead water supply pipes (if unavoidable, use good filtration, for all food prep including boiling, and rinsing)
      3. Machined brass. This includes keys, faucets, fittings and valves. Brass door knobs are usually okay. Hinges are probably okay, as you don't touch them much, even if they have lead. They put lead in brass to extend the life of the machines that cut the brass.
      4. Firing ranges. Doesn't matter if bullets are coated in copper. When it hits, there is a spray of lead into the air. If you must shoot, then use lead free and shoot in the boonies, and safely.
      5. Don't use lead sinkers when fishing.
      6. Don't use some hair coloring products (the daily use type often has lead)
      7. Take care when cleaning battery terminals on lead acid batteries. Spread a disposable drop cloth under the vehicle and also try to vacuum up any lead dust. Don't use a powered wire brush. And wash your hands well, obviously.
      8. Solder old electronics outdoors or under a powered fume hood. And always use lead free.
      9. Always use lead free solder for sweating copper plumbing joints.
      10. Live preferably a few miles, at least, from any busy airport that serves mostly small aircraft. Those small aircraft still use leaded AvGas.
      11. Avoid hobbies that involve lead, or take great care to avoid lead. Gun collecting, leaded glass windows, electronics repair, lock smithing, small aircraft aviation (paramotoring away from the airports might be better and using auto gasoline), some metallurgy stuff, pouring lead keels, and obviously recovering lead scrap.
      12. Take great care when renovating old houses (pre-1978). And certainly don't while there is a pregnant woman living in the house.
Distancing yourself from the sources of lead is only half the story. Your body can get rid of low level lead. This is achieved by eating calcium rich foods like milk, yogurt, and cheese. NAC can reduce the effects of lead, though it is unclear if it actually helps in removal. Chelation can also removes lead, but may remove it too fast, freeing it to cause damage. Still, under the right circumstances it might be the right choice.
Taking large amounts of calcium supplements can be very bad too. And any calcium supplementation should be accompanied by boron, K2, and a few other things to reduce the chance that calcium will be deposited in your heart, arteries, cochlea and joints. Calcium supplements and already be tainted with lead, so take care there too. Just as calcium can Hoover up lead in your blood, it can have already found lead before ingestion.
Lead can take decades to remove because it is absorbed into your bones. Your body treats lead like calcium, and tries to use as if it was. But it does not act exactly like calcium, which is why lead is so harmful.
To address high blood pressure, you can take potassium and eat potassium rich foods like dried apricots. You can also take supplements to improve kidney heath, as high blood pressure causes kidney damage.
Also, watch those Advanced Glycation End Products. Forget the bacon, bacon grease, and butter. These are the highest sources of AGEs. Google: "Advanced Glycation End Products in Foods and a Practical Guide to Their Reduction in the Diet".
Eating reduced AGEs means less hardening of tissues, but also kidney function may be improved because it is the kidneys' job to remove the AGEs from the blood stream, and they may work better under reduced burden...but I am speculating based on personal experience. My kidney health numbers improved dramatically over the few years I have been reducing AGEs: GFR went from 71.74 to 104.52 Those are age reversal type numbers. Also, My inflammation numbers are now very low. I don't have a baseline, but my current 0.4 mg hs-CRP is the lower limit of the test...so it could even be lower than that. I have done multiple things, so I can't say reducing AGEs is necessarily responsible.

Holy Crap that’s a lot of supplements (must cost a grand a month 😂)
I’m actually really surprised with all that, GlyNAC and Taurine wasn’t on your list
You’re looking great (for any age brother)
    My list is quite small compared to that;
D, K2 (MK7), Magnesium Glycinate, Iodine (Dr Lugo’s), GlyNAC, Taurine, Zinc, and Turmeric
I cycle Boron 10 days on & 14 days off, creatine (same)
My protein supplement is Collagen peptides
My intermittent fast is only 12-14 hours each day, I do a monk fast each week (36 hours), every other quarter I do a 72 hour and 7 day fast (alternating)
Great content, keep up the solid work

Sounds like you're doing a 99th percentile job of all the basics, but I'd suggest two tweaks: raw food isn't per se better, and many foods only release their nutritional value after cooking. Second, EPOC after HIIT is negligible compared to adding a little bit to your dog walking, for example. Research on these two points is easily googleable. In any case, you're an awesome inspiration for a 50-year-old!
