Intend on doing volunteer work in the community it's a major move but the US no longer shares our values. We do not intend to take Mexican jobs nor welfare. Always welcome, just one thing: San Miguel is not only beautiful houses and streets, it is also a Mexican community with history, traditions and social challenges. It is NOT a Disney style cute little town available to gentrify it. We appreciate so many fantastic US friends being part of the solution of community’s problems all around Mexico. Regards.
Thanks for the tips! Yes, in hindsight we took the advice of the owner and parked there, but should have looked for a overnight parking lot. What are the chances for one night. 😂😂

"San Miguel de Allende is NOT what we THOUGHT!" What did you expect? " What's the big deal" you ask. I suggest you stay a while . I don't understand why people leave the negatives of a town like San Miguel. It is one of the "stronghold" areas for the cartel and is so crowded, you have to compete to get a good shot of the sunset. What about "gringo gulch"....look it up. It's not nearly as safe as they portray. Don't rely on RUclips alone for your information.
If you had come to Florida during the Covid shut down you’d have found the same thing. Everything was closed of course. Many businesses didn’t reopen. The shut down destroyed them. Things are back to normal w/ new shops & cafes, the high cost of gas & housing, heavy traffic, high insurance costs, low wages, etc…
I lived in San Miguel de Allende for 10 years. There are different groups of expats. They created a parallel culture. One that many natives consider off side and pretentious. Talk to local families in Spanish. Otomis have beautiful traditions.

We heard people talked abt it, but after we looking around on a busy street, we saw at least 5 locals wearing shorts. In any nice restaurant , sure its a manner not wearing shorts. But in any hot day middle of the day, shorts? yes!
it was just a bad ti visit as itvwas duringvthe pandemic lockdowns. itvjustvhad a different vibe from the 1stvtime we went. itvwas our fault for not taking that into consideration
Very nicely filmed video. It makes SMA look elegant, beautiful and peaceful. However, there is so much visible poverty and uncleanliness and the constant, overwhelming noise day and night that defeats the intermittent beauty. After living there for two years, I escaped and realized that it would be best to take short visits to the town, if I ever would return.
The Cambridge Dictionary defines an expat as: “someone who does not live in their own country” And it defines an immigrant as: “a person who has come to a different country in order to live there permanently” So, we can see that both terms can be applied to someone that has moved out of their native country to live abroad. Often, an immigrant is seen as someone who has moved to another country permanently, and an expat may be seen to have moved to a country temporarily. Expats may be more likely to move around than an immigrant.
