When I was much younger, my friends, and I did something similar to this. Now granted, we did not have the same level of kit. Historically accurate uniform, and weapons. But, we went out into the woods by my house...and we dug fox holes, and a trench! And we pretended it was the Battle Of The Bulge. Though, at the time...it was late fall.....so, I guess it would be closer to the the Hurtgen. Either way, it was a ton of fun....and a great memory.

id love a large scale version of this with way more people, although I know that would be just a tad bit more difficult. Edit: I'd also like to say this is oddly wholesome, really plays on the human aspect of the war.

I envy you for having a trench in your garden. :D This is what I love about reenactment. Sitting around the campfire listening to stories and singing songs, that our ancestors sang. The camaraderie is amazing. It's something you don't find that often in today's society. I do WW1 German and 7 Years War Prussian reenactment. I'd love to do WW2 aswell, but it's of course pretty controversial here in Germany (and easy to get in trouble for)
Yes, reenactment is amazing, being able to experience a part of what they did.. WWI is really cool too, but i understand people don't like to see WWII soldiers in Germany.. I think it shouldn't be a problem.. it's History.. hopefully it changes in the future!

Dang, you boys go hard af! When I was a kid in the 70s, we all just took sides in our street clothes and shot each other with red Ryder bb guns. My older brother still has 1 lodged in his armpit that I tagged him with all those years ago. We did have a lot of assorted ww2 era milsurp we bought at the local army/navy store. Stuff was dirt cheap in those days but none of us were too ocd about it to be super authentic with complete uniforms, insignias, and accoutrements though.
Building a bunker os hard you need concrete to make it and it will take go long and you have to dig out a big space so i dont think he has enough room in his backayard

Depends if your doing WWI or WWII. IF WWII, certain sections should be up to your waist and others just to the top of your forehead. If WWI, all of it should be a few feet above your head.

Vexenie They were lived in longer. World War 2 was about advancing, World War 1 was about waiting the enemy out.
The Tung and groove planking is upside-down. The male grooves should be upwards as not to trap moisture.
