Welcome back to Wildwood Cottage & welcome back to Wales
In todays episode we are having a look at some of the extreme frugal living things I do around the home to save money & are environmentally friendly.
During the war people were encourage to make what they could themselves as manufacturing was diverted to wartime production for weapons, ammunition & food etc.
Plus my extreme frugal living plans for my dig for victory garden in 2024 & the exciting year ahead.
We are sticking to our extreme frugal living & make do & mend theme, plus I will be doing as much as I can for free.
I'm also sharing what my wartime rations will be for a week.
2024 is the year of my Wartime Challenge using my wartime cookbooks to prepare meals on my Prity 2p41 wood cook-stove. I'm starting a digging for victory garden to help reduce my food budget & I will be trying to stick to war rations in my own daily life, growing a wartime kitchen garden & re-purposing, re-using & up-cycling where possible when I need something.

Hi Im Hazel & i recently moved into a remote cottage in Wales which had a very old tired garden sloping down towards the farm fields below. The garden had been tended by an elderly gentle who died at aged 97 & he'd looked after it for 50 years. All it had was shrubs, hedges & trees. This has given me a great opportunity to strive towards self-sufficiency. i'll be growing my own food & living extremey frugal spending as little money as possible.
In these days of high inflation & financial crisis my wartime challenge is the ideal opportunity to reduce my spnding & my waste. I am starting 2024 with a new dig for victory garden & cooking wartime recipes in the kitchen on my Prity 2p41 cookstove using my wartime cookbooks. I will be sticking to war rations where i can & trying to follow the ration book as much as i can. I want to do as much as i can for free & still eat & live well. I will be growing organic food setting up a wartime kitchen garden, growing organically using no dig gardening & permaculture principles whilst growing complimentary flowers for medicinal use & dyeing wool. I will be making my own clothes & cooking meals from scratch. I will be making jam, preserving food for the winter, canning, fermenting & dehydrating what i can to keep me going when the garden is quiet.
I will be documenting my journey transforming the cottage garden into a beautiful thrivng garden to sustain us & the wildlife that I share my home with. I post videos 2 or 3 times a week dependent on the wifi as its slow, very slow. So tune in to catch up with my frugal living tips & see what im making in the kitchen. I use wartime frugal money saving recipes to cut down on the ingredients & portion sizes. Ive been living this frugal lifestyle for many years & now i want to share that with you. Its a very fulfilling & abundant way to live , its mindful & slow living at its best.
Join me as i share aspects of my everyday life in my Woodland cottage in Wales. I live in a hidden valley on the southern edge of the Snowdonia National Park in the UK. I share the rhythms of my life with the wildlife & seasons around my home. i watch the seasons change from one to another seamlessly & i find my life adapting to their changing rhythm.
On my channel I will be sharing gardening videos from my new garden in Mid Wales. I hope you find something of interest & that you will join me on my journey to develop this lovely garden in the foot hills in this beautiful Welsh valley.xx

I find soap lasts longer than shower gel and has less chemicals and waste. If you have a lemon in tea or in cooking you can use the slice for cleaning the sink too. We used to use our range to cook, heat the kitchen and dry clothes with an overhead airer and boil water for hot water bottles at night. I miss that little stove. And oh, I gather sticks, moss and fir cones for kindling too. You’ve inspired me to try and be more frugal once again.
Helloooo.... I find eco soap a bit expensive atm but i am intending on making my own when i have to time research it & use my wood ash from the fire.... I have just bought a block of olive soap so I will be using that for the time being.... I like the idea of the soap bars as it cuts down on all that plastic too... 🙂🙂
I love my range i wouldnt be without it I can see why you would miss it.... Do share your hints n tips as i always love seeing what every body does... 🙂🙂

Vinegar on its own will remove all the hard to remove labels and the grease that they leave behind.
I've re used tea bags too. A great tip if you drink Earl Grey, the flavour comes from Bergamot, buy ordinary tea add a couple of drops and enjoy your Earl Grey,
I think we probably all have used different things, that save us money, that we can also pass on
(Especially us older people)

I love the fact it leaves no odour when you use it... 🙂🙂 Thats a great idea for cheap Earl grey its my favourite brew since giving up coffee... 🙂Its always good to share our tips keep them going..🙂

You can make a great shower cleaner with citric acid or vinegar and washing up liquid, squeaky clean 🧽

What a great video . Lots of frugal tips here. I love making my own cleaners salves etc. I like soaking our porridge overnight in the fridge, its creamier and then a splash of milk after cooking seems like plenty. Vinegar is wonderful for so many things . Your chanel grows every time i watch . Its a pleasure to watch from the beginning. Have a beautiful day lovely and thank you for sharing ❤❤

Thanks so much for sharing all these wonderful tips and tricks with us dear Hazel, I find I am learning a lot. Such a great idea re extending the life of your teas, we are big tea drinkers so will be trying this out. I have quite a bit of pineapple sage growing in the garden and that makes a lovely tea, hoping to start harvesting that soon. @@wildwood_cottageWe are well my friend. We had a little holiday by the sea, was good to get away for a bit, after all the storm stuff. The pineapple sage is lovely, I put the flower and dried leaf in together as the flower has lots of natural sugars. I sometimesuse the top of the fire in the winter for drying arty stuff and flowers, I just pop them on some baking paper on a cake drying rack. Hope you have a little more sunshine coming your way.🌄🌻💛💚💙

Great video, I love peppermint oil, good for many uses. If you put a few drops on cotton balls it is a great mouse deterent. Will you be doing any knitting or crocheting in the future? Have a great week!
