@@samuelneil2691 Indeed, factory options for the 8mm are fairly limited in comparison to something like the 30-06. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, as the heavy bullet options have long since proven to be the most accurate.
@@MasterFatness PPU and Sellier&Bellot are the only two companies I know of that currently make new production 8mm mauser ammunition. At least available in the US. That is my finding of scouring the internet and a few gun shows. 196 or 198 are the only options I've found. Of course, you can find surplus ammo. I have some of that as well but I'm a little nervous to shoot that. But regardless, I've had great success shooting the new pro ammo. Not a tack driver but still a great rifle and fun to shoot.
The 98 K and the SMLE are still the best of the early 20’th century military ordnance bolt action rifles ever issued, I’ve been fortunate enough to have had great examples of both of them and great range instructors.

Fired one of these manufactured in 1944 in the Mauser Open Door Factory. Incredibly well made and such a beautiful design. Firing enough rounds leaves your shoulder a bit bruised from the steel butt-plate. Well worth the bruising though lol

If I remember correctly the recoil was bad like that particularly because the rifles, especially brand new. Tended to be a bit over-gassed.
