Americans did it better. Russians did it worse. The AK is clearly a crappy, oversimplified copy, because they were unable to make a direct copy work. The AR form factor, many features and some of the operation, is taken from the StG; the FAL is another offshoot.
An assault rifle is a selective fire rifle that uses an intermediate cartridge and a detachable magazine.[1][2][3][4][5] Assault rifles were first put into mass production and accepted into widespread service during World War II. The first assault rifle to see major usage was the German StG 44, a development of the earlier Mkb 42.[6][7][8] While immediately after World War II, NATO countries were equipped with battle rifles, the development of the M16 rifle during the Vietnam War prompted the adoption of assault rifles by the rest of NATO. By the end of the 20th century, assault rifles had become the standard weapon in most of the world's armies, replacing full-powered rifles and sub-machine guns in most roles.[8] The two most successful modern assault rifles are the AK-47 and the M16 designs and their derivatives.[8] StG 44 German assault rifle with curved magazine and wooden stock facing left The StG 44 was adopted by the Wehrmacht in 1944. It fires the 7.92×33mm Kurz round. AK-47 assault rifle with curved magazine and wooden stock facing left Currently the most used assault rifle in the world along with its variant, the AKM, the AK-47 was first adopted in 1949 by the Soviet Army. It fires the 7.62×39mm M43 round. M16 assault rifle with triangular stock facing left The M16 was first introduced into service in 1964 with the United States Armed Forces. It fires the 5.56×45mm NATO cartridge, and is the most produced assault rifle in its caliber. Origin of term: The term assault rifle is generally attributed to Adolf Hitler, who used the German word Sturmgewehr (which translates to "assault rifle") as the new name for the MP 43 (Maschinenpistole), subsequently known as the Sturmgewehr 44.[6][8][9][10][11][12][13][14] Allied propaganda suggested that the name was chosen for propaganda purposes, but the main purpose was to differentiate the Sturmgewehr from German submachine guns such as the MP 40.[15] It has been suggested, however, that the Heereswaffenamt was responsible for the name Sturmgewehr, and Hitler had no input besides signing the production order.[16][15] Furthermore, Hitler was initially opposed to the idea of a new infantry rifle, as Germany lacked the industrial capacity to replace the 12,000,000 Karabiner 98k rifles already in service, only changing his mind once he saw it first-hand.[17] The StG 44 is generally considered the first selective fire military rifle to popularize the assault rifle concept.[6][8] Today, the term assault rifle is used to define firearms sharing the same basic characteristics as the StG 44.[6][8] Definition: The U.S. Army defines assault rifles as "short, compact, selective-fire weapons that fire a cartridge intermediate in power between submachine gun and rifle cartridges."[18] In this strict definition, a firearm must have at least the following characteristics to be considered an assault rifle:[2][3][4] It must be capable of selective fire. It must have an intermediate-power cartridge: more power than a pistol but less than a standard rifle or battle rifle, examples of intermediate cartridges are the 7.92×33mm Kurz, the 7.62×39mm and 5.56×45mm NATO. Its ammunition must be supplied from a detachable box magazine.[5] It must have an effective range of at least 300 metres (330 yards). Rifles that meet most of these criteria, but not all, are not assault rifles according to the U.S. Army's definition. For example: Select-fire M2 Carbines are not assault rifles; their effective range is only 180 metres (200 yd).[19] Select-fire rifles such as the Fedorov Avtomat, FN FAL, M14, and H&K G3 main battle rifles are not assault rifles; they fire full-powered rifle cartridges. Semi-automatic-only rifles like the Colt AR-15 are not assault rifles; they do not have select-fire capabilities. Semi-automatic-only rifles with fixed magazines like the SKS are not assault rifles; they do not have detachable box magazines and are not capable of automatic fire. Distinction from assault weapons: Further information: Assault weapon and Assault weapons legislation in the United States In the United States, selective-fire rifles are legally defined as "machine guns", and civilian ownership of those has been tightly regulated since 1934 under the National Firearms Act and since 1986 under the Firearm Owners Protection Act.[20] However, the term "assault rifle" is often conflated with "assault weapon", a U.S. legal category with varying definitions which includes many semi-automatic weapons. This use has been described as incorrect and a misapplication of the term.[21][22]

The Germans realized from their experience on the eastern front that they needed something on the battlefield that was more powerful than a sub machine gun, but with a much higher rate of fire than a bolt action rifle. When they finally came up with an ideal design, it was simply too little, too late.

It's over engineered and it's pieces are fragile , there are big gaps in the gun and unnecessary parts by today's standarts , and the way it unlocks is very weird. @EVAN DZULFAGAR FAITH SIREGAR 8 kurz rounds have less recoil than 7.62x39 which the AK uses , and the gun is heavier. But there are (sadly) child soldiers in the world armed with AKs ?
Another example of how older video games portrayed this more accurately than newer ones, primarily focusing on the rate of fire. Before Black Ops II, this gun was slow, but it was a lot more true to what we see here. Black Ops II and onward, the gun was made to feel like a generic modern-day assault rifle which benefitted gameplay, but wasn't faithful anymore.
The quality on these is actually not so great. The reports from testing done by the US and British militaries during war had mostly pretty negative stuff to say, stating it was easily damaged and cheaply constructed.

No long intro, no clickbaiting, no ads and no begging for subsribers. Those camera perspectives are creative and new, especially the first-person perspective. You really "show" the weapons. Big thanks from me for your great work. Satisfactorily SUBSCRIBED! :)
Thank you very much for the kind words sir. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

Unfortunately the losers did not know how to use them

Day late and a papiermark short - too late, too expensive. Had they pulled back, consolidated their forces, shortened their supply lines and then armed up with these late war weapons, and let the fronts stabilize while they took a breather, things likely would've turned out very different. They allowed perfect to be the enemy of good.
Americans did it better. Russians did it worse. The AK is clearly a crappy, oversimplified copy, because they were unable to make a direct copy work. The AR form factor, many features and some of the operation, is taken from the StG; the FAL is another offshoot.

StG44 - The first Assault Rifle in history.
By the end of the 20th century, assault rifles had become the standard weapon in most of the world's armies, replacing full-powered rifles and sub-machine guns in most roles.[8] The two most successful modern assault rifles are the AK-47 and the M16 designs and their derivatives.[8]

The StG 44 was adopted by the Wehrmacht in 1944. It fires the 7.92×33mm Kurz round.
AK-47 assault rifle with curved magazine and wooden stock facing left
Currently the most used assault rifle in the world along with its variant, the AKM, the AK-47 was first adopted in 1949 by the Soviet Army. It fires the 7.62×39mm M43 round.
M16 assault rifle with triangular stock facing left
The M16 was first introduced into service in 1964 with the United States Armed Forces. It fires the 5.56×45mm NATO cartridge, and is the most produced assault rifle in its caliber.
Origin of term:
The term assault rifle is generally attributed to Adolf Hitler, who used the German word Sturmgewehr (which translates to "assault rifle") as the new name for the MP 43 (Maschinenpistole), subsequently known as the Sturmgewehr 44.[6][8][9][10][11][12][13][14] Allied propaganda suggested that the name was chosen for propaganda purposes, but the main purpose was to differentiate the Sturmgewehr from German submachine guns such as the MP 40.[15]
It has been suggested, however, that the Heereswaffenamt was responsible for the name Sturmgewehr, and Hitler had no input besides signing the production order.[16][15] Furthermore, Hitler was initially opposed to the idea of a new infantry rifle, as Germany lacked the industrial capacity to replace the 12,000,000 Karabiner 98k rifles already in service, only changing his mind once he saw it first-hand.[17]
The StG 44 is generally considered the first selective fire military rifle to popularize the assault rifle concept.[6][8] Today, the term assault rifle is used to define firearms sharing the same basic characteristics as the StG 44.[6][8]
Definition:
The U.S. Army defines assault rifles as "short, compact, selective-fire weapons that fire a cartridge intermediate in power between submachine gun and rifle cartridges."[18] In this strict definition, a firearm must have at least the following characteristics to be considered an assault rifle:[2][3][4]
It must be capable of selective fire.
It must have an intermediate-power cartridge: more power than a pistol but less than a standard rifle or battle rifle, examples of intermediate cartridges are the 7.92×33mm Kurz, the 7.62×39mm and 5.56×45mm NATO.
Its ammunition must be supplied from a detachable box magazine.[5]
It must have an effective range of at least 300 metres (330 yards).
Rifles that meet most of these criteria, but not all, are not assault rifles according to the U.S. Army's definition. For example:
Select-fire M2 Carbines are not assault rifles; their effective range is only 180 metres (200 yd).[19]
Select-fire rifles such as the Fedorov Avtomat, FN FAL, M14, and H&K G3 main battle rifles are not assault rifles; they fire full-powered rifle cartridges.
Semi-automatic-only rifles like the Colt AR-15 are not assault rifles; they do not have select-fire capabilities.
Semi-automatic-only rifles with fixed magazines like the SKS are not assault rifles; they do not have detachable box magazines and are not capable of automatic fire.
Distinction from assault weapons:
Further information: Assault weapon and Assault weapons legislation in the United States
In the United States, selective-fire rifles are legally defined as "machine guns", and civilian ownership of those has been tightly regulated since 1934 under the National Firearms Act and since 1986 under the Firearm Owners Protection Act.[20] However, the term "assault rifle" is often conflated with "assault weapon", a U.S. legal category with varying definitions which includes many semi-automatic weapons. This use has been described as incorrect and a misapplication of the term.[21][22]

@@irenepongarrang7386 what's wrong with the recoil ? 7.92x33 has about as much recoil as 7.62x39 , which tbh isn't much. They practically have the same ballistics.
It's an okay gun but it's not a quality gun. It's over engineered and it's pieces are fragile , there are big gaps in the gun and unnecessary parts by today's standarts , and the way it unlocks is very weird. It's one of the first guns ever designed in that way , so it's understandable. FAL is basically an improved STG44.
