Yess!! The world needs more bowling ball explaining. I for one would love to see super dumbed down videos explaining how to compare a bowling ball on specs like coverstock, or RG/Diff, symm/asym, and when to use each.
Great series of video. I would love to know your opinion on the timing/moment/signal of quit using urethane(change to reactive) on sport patterns in some future videos!
Thanks so much for this video Mikey! MUCH APPRECIATED. I am trying to learn the nuances of my balls and this has been super helpful! I would love to see a video about when you use Sym vs Asym. Great stuff man!
My favorite is having a pearl ball with about 3k on it. Then I can usually use the ball in an entire session. Sure the high polish is good for when you need the ball to go down even further but it's not great on alot of fresh. Then I'll do the opposite and polish my solid bowling balls to basically create this same motion. Little later with a stronger hit. I know I'm weird but this works for me
Came for the info (as a newer bowler), subbed for the pun. Great stuff. Would like to see a video breaking down the reverse: sanding a pearl and how that effects ball reaction vs a typical solid.
Do a video on different hand positions you use... I think most people dont understand changing hand position to create slightly different look from the same ball..
Thank you for the informative video, Mikey. Is this correct? A polished solid is smoother when reacting to the friction than a shiny pearl. What is the difference of a solid with a 1000 Abralon vs. a pearl with a 1000 Abralon if the core is similar (or the same)?
Hey Mikey, thanks for the content !! I have a ghost & it’s a little over under / speed sensitive - been wondering if I should sand it. Can you share a vid on when it’s best to sand a pearl & what surface you use ?
Possibly a video on coverstocks and importance if your selection of bowling balls for events. Does it make much impact? Say your looking for a solid symmetric ball but there is two different ones with different cover stocks. Explaining their differences and how they effect different lane patterns would be great.
I'm going to assume you are playing on a house shot. they are good when the lane oil burns up. Solids are usually better to start with on fresh lanes but they don't look good when you have to move too far left (right handed) because they spend too much energy too soon. Once you've reached the limits of the solid ball you can switch to a pearl. The idea is it's less sensitive to the front part of the lane and saves some power for the back ends. High rev guys can get a lot of angle out of them and move in more. Low rev bowlers can use them to get through the burn without reading early and losing energy or going Brooklyn. IMO they work differently based on your rev rate.
Thanks for this tip. Shined up my UFO for my second shift league and it worked better than my IQ Tour Pearl which I sanded to 2000grit. The UFO takes out the corner pins more consistently.
Mike I wished you’d post more videos your form is so clean. But you should make a video about the grit your ball is sanded at with polish on top of that. I always thought that the polish would make it roll the same no matter what grit your ball was at.
Great video and this may be what I am missing on the fresh at one of my houses. I have tried shiny pearls, weaker balls, hybrids etc. i have not tried a shiny big asymmetrical like my Reality and I bet this is what I need.
Does anyone do videos for Elite bowling balls?? I own Hammer and Motiv also Radical bowling balls and I now own a Elite alien revolution ball. I am able to hook my Bigfoot and my Rino better than my Alpha, my legacy, the Statement and the Diesel HD all are less likely than the two mentioned above to hook. I have 11 balls and I am trying to get a certified USBC coach to look at my assortment of balls to help make the 120.00 balls hook less than my many 200+ balls. Your information is a nice addition to the the look how much I hook videos from professional bowlers which is not what Joe bowler or the ok proshop is capable of.
I've done it before with the Defiant and Hyper Cell. Those two were too much for me without polish and I needed them to skate a little better and finish.
I never throw a ball at box finish. The first thing i do is take the polish off because I can easily repeat the surface I can make myself every time I use the ball. I can also adjust it easily up or down with a pad or two to adjust to the lanes. it is tough to recreate the box finish yourself... imo..
@@tvbowlingsupply hay I have a question what is the difference between ball movement and ball forward-movement and what happens when you miss the pocket when you throw the first and second ball?
Excuse my naiveness here, Why do you alter the surface of a bowling ball instead of using a bowling ball that is supposed to react the way you want it to. If there's something specific you want the ball to be doing on that particular lane or pattern then go to the ball that does that for you. I know people get mad when I ask why everybody surfaces up their bowling balls cause I'd never understood why you buy a $200 ball and then change the surface of it. I have an 8 ball Arsenal and every one of them I've never touched the surface of but every ball has a specific thing that it does for me on whatever lane I'm throwing on....jmo..
As illustrated in the video, you can achieve unique ball reaction that may not be available on the market from a box surface bowling ball by manipulating the surface. In this instance, I polished the solid to create length but still give me a smooth transition off of the friction, which the Pearl ball wouldn’t give me.
Don't forget to tell people the drilling of the balls. Weather it drilled to go long or set mid lane and so on... Different people have different drillings like my self. Some times the surface does not work how they release the ball. For me its like the opposite. I put alot of fingers in the release compared to you. But nice video
Great video! Curious to see your take now on "Sanded Pearl or Solid?? | Ballsplanations #2"
I just had this same exact thought right now and went I wonder if this is in the comments of his 1st video

Good series idea, Mikey. You never cease to make bowling topics funny, and I think that will draw more viewers to watch your videos. Keep it up! :D
I’d like to see your take on lane breakdown and progression through your bag. The thought process behind that.
Good series! And your smooth style is so good at showing what a ball does. Nice work
Always wondered why you would shine up a solid rather than just buying the Pearl version of the ball your throwing but it makes sense now, thanks!
I love this idea! Soooo many misconceptions in bowling.
Great presentation Michael and useful information. Thank you!
Great series of video. I would love to know your opinion on the timing/moment/signal of quit using urethane(change to reactive) on sport patterns in some future videos!
You have a good release. Very good. What is your ball speed?

Love it! Do you have a preferred polish?
I got the Reality 2 weeks ago and the Altered last week which I will practice with today. I heard a lot of great things about those pieces
I polished my NU blue and it has become probably my biggest control piece for late in the set.
Thanks! My Alterd is not legal for Nationals. Getting a Reality and having it polished.
Great info. It’s what we non pros need to choose and throw our arsenal.
How much do you practice changing your axis tilt and/or rotation?
Great video and explanation! Is it possible to show how it goes on two-handed if these tips are applied? Looking forward to that.
Nice series name lol
Good series idea.
I think it would benefit a lot to talk about lane play and what you do based on what you see.
Great content, glad that you explain as you go. More videos like this!
What is your favorite type of ball to use on a burned up house shot lane?
Awesome video! I just purchased the Reality and it seems to strong for me. I put polish on it... going to test it out soon.
Do a video on different hand positions you use...
I think most people dont understand changing hand position to create slightly different look from the same ball..
Very helpful video mikey. Thanks for the free jewelry!
This is very helpful Micheal. Thanks
So, what would you expect, comparison wise, if you dulled the cover of the pearl instead of shining the solid?
Great video , 📹 you make holiday look easy lol happy early Christmas to you and Mary and beautiful baby
What u prefer and which u go? 14 lps or 15 lps ;)
Thank you for the informative video, Mikey.

Love the ballsplinations! What about a scuffed up pearl vs a solid. Doing a scuffed up zen vs a zen master for example.
Should I get the nova or gem For another ball
Great series idea! Topic ideas:
Solid vs sand pearl
Sym vs asym
Strong vs weak/medium
Urethane vs reactive
same dual angle layout but short pin vs long pin?
When is a pearl symmetric good, generally? Is it during transition and closer to the dry? Or right off the fresh? Thanks.

They are good on fresh and set the lane up nicely for an asym pearl when lane breakdown starts to happen.

THE MORE YOU KNOW
Thanks Mikey, Definitely going to get this to the kids I coach, Keep putting out awesome content.
Great stuff kiddo. Can't wait to see the next one.
I love bowling so much, and watch these videos to understand every little thing i can, yet i dont even have money to buy a new ball lol
Good idea. I would like to see a ballsplanation on burnt up short patterns and lighter long patterns I have trouble understanding how to play those
Great video and this may be what I am missing on the fresh at one of my houses. I have tried shiny pearls, weaker balls, hybrids etc. i have not tried a shiny big asymmetrical like my Reality and I bet this is what I need.
Michael? Did you and your brother use the same coach throughout life. You both have the same swing.
Dope video and makes sense especially for league
Love the videos, learn alot out of them
how often should you "reshine" your solid ball?
Whenever I feel like it’s not performing how I would like. No specific amount of time!
Not a Mikey video without a 1 pin 🤣 favorite line.
That was funny

Love the pin just stuck in the deck haha Great concept for a series! Keep it up :)
Thanks for the information
Dude..What shoes are those?
Hand position as we keep moving left from starting stance to release would be 👌
I shined mine and was able to play it for all three games of League!!!
I've done it before with the Defiant and Hyper Cell. Those two were too much for me without polish and I needed them to skate a little better and finish.

Mikey..you mentioned the Helios.. I want to see this series with idol Helios shiny vs dull vs original Idol.
Short pin balls vs urethane would be a good topic
Good stuff Mikey
I was always curious thank you
My Reality is too strong typically after the first game in league, and I will give this a try!
I would like a video on moves when you're leaving 10 and/or 7 pins all night. Go team Tang!
My bag reality, zen, idol pearl, idol helios Polish, Board A210 at 10 Penn bowling lane
My ball speed is between 15 - 16 I'm 76 yo and average over 200 Would a shiny solid work for me ?
Sure! I recommend this for a lot of the senior that come in to our pro shop who struggle with their ball hooking too much!
More!!!!
Should I get Altered Reality?
I don't see why not!
@@tvbowlingsupply hay I have a question what is the difference between ball movement and ball forward-movement and what happens when you miss the pocket when you throw the first and second ball?
@@tvbowlingsupply and also I want to learn more about ball movements and ball forward-movement
not familiar with these balls? which is which?
Could you maybe do a shiny gem?
Teach me the Way of the Ball.
Phase 2 vs phase 3 please
Can you please unlock the secret to winning ball giveaways? I want some of the big new stuff but paying back college loans got the pockets a lil tight
Good idea Mikey but how about put a song to give some vibe to video n some epic edit so everyone can enjoy your video more
Am I understanding this to mean "More miss room right with a solid" ?
Miss room all depends on matching up. Any ball can provide more miss room given the right circumstance
I’d like to see a sanded/dull pearl vrs a solid
Thank ?
@ 5:22....you can for sure see the difference between a Professional Bowler and league Bowler...LOL
The big guy is who runs the pro shop when Mikey and Chris are bowling on tour. That's good ole "Dude" Brown. :)
bad timestamp lol
Dude hit a strike though!!! Get it man!!
Do a video on dull pearls :)
Thanks for telling us about your balls 😎👍
