I appreciate that you’re wearing work clothes when you are working. Furniture refinishers that look like they’re about to brunch with the ladies while working make me crazy.
You are so right, when people are wearing new looking clothes with new looking paint brushes etc. etc. I know they are just doing it fake for the recording because that’s not real life
The piece looks great and I love seeing the photos in the challenge, I had to slow it down and go back and look at some of them. Dark academia is the first style that I can completely embrace and I’m working on a couple of pieces
That is gorgeous! Heirloom quality for sure, worth a pretty penny! It was a good choice to invest in the high quality drawer pulls. Definitely looks like a desk for a university professor❤
Hi from Cambridge UK. The restoration of this piece of furniture is a work of art combined with manual skill and attention to detail. I do hope that you are proud of what you have achieved. If not you should be. Very well done and congratulations.
I’m new to your channel. I so much appreciate all that little extra touch that you use. I love the howard wax myself so just doing that in the drawers is just that extra step.
I do love an oil finish; it adds such depth. That cabinet is one of the most beautiful pieces I've seen you refinish. Asian/campaign furniture makes me think of my mom's 1960s-1970s dining room. I can so see that dresser with chartreuse ceramic lamps (with royal blue silk shades) and a royal blue bowl full of limes. But I LOVE the ways you've styled it. Honey, that piece is too elegant for academia!
Beautiful piece, I always appreciate your videos. You don’t hide your mistakes and don’t make the process look effortless. I see many videos it looks as if the person washes, strips/sands a little then puts on a finish and voila they have a beautiful piece. I’m sure some people are disheartened by that, it is misleading. Their videos should be called entertainment because they aren’t real. If I ever take my friend up on her offer to do a video of my work I’ll call it Reality Furniture Updating with Laura.
Ha! That’s a good title! Yes, it’s a rare project that goes completely smooth. Vintage furniture just has quirks, but that’s also why I love it so much 🤩
That came out beautiful! To save time I would have made a template of the pull cutout once it was perfect on the first one and transfered that to all the other drawers as a guide for the dremel. I really felt for you having to dremel and then stop to fit the pull over and over.
Everyone created beautiful pieces of furniture. Do you have a list or can provide RUclips channels of your competitors. Some, I am very interested to see more of the furniture flips. Keep up the great work.
If you would like to use your sander and not do overboard, lightly draw a few wavy pencil lines on the wood. Then use your sander and when the pencil lines are gone do the same thing for the next grit.
Love burlwood and actually any wood that has a distinct pattern to it. Tiger oak and birdseye maple are another two examples. Often you don't see genuine pieces made of these woods today. In fact you don't see that many affordable mid-range furniture pieces made of solid wood anymore. Aside from your job here, my vote goes to the curved drawer piece that looks like tiger oak. Anything with a style not make anymore I'm a sucker for.
Love the work you're doing!! It's the attention to detail that really sets you apart also. Wish you would keep the camera on the whole completed piece for a longer stretch if time. It's distracting to flit from angle to angle so quickly.

Ha! I was just telling my husband I was bummed out always wearing paint clothes but I'm so messy!
When I do my diy projects, I always wear Hot pants, kitten heals, lots of dangly jewelry and makeup. Just kidding!
Ha! That might be a sight to see! 😅@@arlenekerr1198

Again, another knock-out campaign piece! What an absolute stunner! I hope you kept it!
I let this one go too! But a few months later I found the exact same one and I refinished it and kept it!!
Absolutely gorgeous! I wouldn't say it was academia but I would take that piece in a heartbeat!!
Thank you! It is so good! 🤩
Burled wood is definitely "Art Deco" or "Hollywood Regency"
OMG!!! I'm so in love with this!!❤💜💙💚🧡 Diffidently 5 star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ so much sanding! But it paid off big time!! How is yours not a winner 😊
Aw, thank you! Well, I’m the judge 🤣
That is gorgeous! Heirloom quality for sure, worth a pretty penny! It was a good choice to invest in the high quality drawer pulls. Definitely looks like a desk for a university professor❤
Heirloom quality indeed! Yes, the pulls really complete the high end look and match the quality of the piece!
Absolutely gorgeous, I could tell you really liked working on it, it's stunning !!
You're such a hard worker, love the fact that perfection and love you give to each product.
I sure try with each piece. 😊🙌🏼
I love your attention to detail. You are a wealth of knowledge!
I appreciate that! 🤩🫶
This piece turned out gorgeous! Burl wood is soooo stunning! Going lighter definitely brings out the beauty of the wood! Amazing job! 😊❤
I really liked the lighter look too!
I love burl wood, too. Good work! Hickory, NC. I taught there over 20 years.
I love burlwood too! 🙌🏼😊
A piece that only comes around once! Just amazing. I knew the “wood wizard” wouldn’t disappoint! Congratulations ❤🎉
Ha! You're too kind! Agreed though...maybe I should keep it. =)
@@ivylane-home YES! I have NEVER seen a piece with so much burl. You should keep it and enjoy!

Yes, I like Howard’s wax or Danish oil. They are both great 😊
Well done 👍 Lisa, it's beautiful!
Thanks Arlene!
So beautiful!! It looks very much like birch to me and curly birch is the best. I like your Finnish!
I love burlwood! It’s my favorite 🤩
Congrats Samatha. I loved your finish piece.
😊🙌🏼

This is definitely a unicorn piece! So unique and fabulous condition. It was such a pleasure to work on. 😊

It’s so beautiful the color was amazing. I have a Burlwood dining set that needs refinishing love the lighter color. Too afraid to to my self though
Oh wow, a dining set? I bet that would be gorgeous in a lighter color 🤩
Stunning piece! great work
Thank you very much! 🤩
I love it original!
It was pretty, but I wanted it lighter.
That came out beautiful!

I really felt for you having to dremel and then stop to fit the pull over and over.
Thank you! Yes, that would have been much easier. I seem to complicate things sometimes. 🤦♀️😅
Beautiful! I am now in love with burlwood.
Isn’t it fabulous?! 🤩
I love it light!! I voted dark but, you definitely made the right choice! That burlwood looks unbelievable, amazing work👏 ❤
I love burlwood in any color 😍 Thanks Natalie! 🫶
Found one I missed! Another winner!
So glad you liked it! 😊 Thanks Laurie!
Also the challenge entries were nice to see!
There were SO many great pieces! 🤩
I love that piece! It’s beautiful in the light!
I agree! 🤩

Thanks! No, sorry, I didn’t have enough room in the description box. They are all on Instagram though. 😊🙌🏼
That is so beautiful!
It really was 🤩🙌🏼

Yes, I’ve tried that too. Really I just need a better sander. 😊 I’m saving up. 🙌🏼
Gorgeous!!!! Most excellent job!!
Thank you so much, Kim!
So beautifull, happy to see your work, like challenges, greetings from Belgium
Aw, thank you! And welcome! 🤩
Wonderful!!!
Many thanks!! 😊
Lovely work!
Thank you! 😊

I love all figured wood 🤩
Stunning!
Thank you! 😊
Incredible job
Thank you! 😊
Looks Amazing
Thank you! It was a favorite 🤩
Absolutely beautiful and you are so talented! How long have you been refinishing furniture?
Thanks Marilyn! I’ve been refinishing as a business for almost 2 years. Before that, I refinished pieces here and there for myself.
OUTSTANDING
Thank you!!
What do you do with all the old stain? Do you just throw the paper towels in regular garbage or do you have to dispose of it in a special way?
I let them dry out and then you can put them in the regular trash.
This is a dumb question, but how do you know when you are done with each level of sandpaper?
The best way is to mark your piece with a pencil and when the pencil marks are gone then you are done with that grit.
Love the work you're doing!! It's the attention to detail that really sets you apart also. Wish you would keep the camera on the whole completed piece for a longer stretch if time. It's distracting to flit from angle to angle so quickly.
Thanks so much for the feedback! I’ll work on it ☺️
Wow!
It was a good one!
Beautiful❤
Thank you! 😊
Pardon my ignorance, but what does “academia” mean in this context? Whatever it is, this piece is absolutely stunning.
It was just the theme for the challenge. The staging was supposed to embody either light or dark academia aesthetic. Thank you!! 😊
I would have that piece in my home.
It was a stunner! 🤩
THE TIGERWOOD PIECE!
So good, right?!!
Beautiful
Thank you!!
French polish would have cleaned it up then just replace some hardware
I'm not sure, it was pretty beat up. Maybe.
❤
🤩🙌🏼
😍
Thanks!
Your hair is glorious…
Ha! Thanks 💇♀️
Destroying books is never a good idea.:( Also why not do the interior drawers? They don't match and look stupid.
This was a consumable book from my kids curriculum. The interiors drawers get sanitized and lined. My buyer loved it!
😂when you are using another (gorgeous) piece as a work bench😂
It’s a terrible habit 🤦♀️
Yours is better. Too many of those people painted over the wood & that was not good, not appealing. I thought you did a great job on yours.
Well, Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
