1st Full tutorial on sculpting a Chavant clay bust from start to finish Instagram: / elliotmallon Art Station: artstation.com/... Facebook: / claymakersculpts
This is one of the most amazing works I've seen. You're incredible. That soldier actually has the thousand yard stare. Your sculpture is alive. Thank you so much for sharing, Elliot.
I love that you referenced Ninja Scroll when talking about that part of the lip. That was a hallmark style of a lot of anime that's almost gone now. Those characters always felt so dimensional. Thanks for the tutorial!
The sculpture is amazing on its own but your understanding of the ugly phases in sculpture plus anatomy is incredibly inspiring and impressive. Great tips as well!
thanks for this. I'm just getting into clay, and now I have all these pointers and more videos to look forward to. you are as a good as being in a class.
@@uncleshome3315 if you wanna be specific 'veterans' is short for 'military veteran' as you can be a veteran in many occupations or fields, so referring to someone as a veteran is technically a shortened term. :)
Gosh! There is a lot more involved in this than I could have ever imagined. I had heard about anatomy in art but I had no idea how much was considered in sculpting a bust, those speed builds, which I really enjoy and am amazed by, make it look so simple. Oh and thanks for putting 'Let's Get Physical' in my head, which I can't get rid of now :D
This is freaking amazing. I learned more in an hour than I can believe. I'm playing around with Monster Clay and waxes, but without real background like this, you're really winging it. In short, thanks for making these.
@@AndyTanguay Thank you, is monster clay the same as modelling clay? Im trying to figure out what clay animators use for marquettes, they looks similar
@@rainbow_2225 it’s definitely a modeling clay. It all depends on what you like and feel comfortable with. If you’re talking about stop motion animation, I think a lot of those in modern stop motion like at Laika are some kind of foam over an armature. And if you’re talking about concept sculptures for animation, once again, that can be whatever feels right to you. I know Pixar had some artists that used Sculpey. At least years ago.
The thumbnail looked a lot like clickbait to me at first, but.. WTF - You're absolutely talented! I'm so stunned right now!! You definetely got me as a new subscriber :-)
I am a purple heart veteran and an artist. And just gotta say wow man this is so cool. I would love to know this skill to make memorials for my fallen brothers.
please do more, i have supplanted 'your' videos for all others on RUclips, over the last few days- even watching them over... ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL.. i am sincerely considering beginning sculpting.. THANK YOU
Elliott absolutely fabulous teaching lesson Im glad to haved learned by your words and solutions to working it out, no computer or AI, can out do the human being well do I will be watching video many times for step procedures! A fan in Virginia Beach coastal area.
What a beautiful sculpture ,it was a joy to watch ..you made it look so easy .. I loved all the details you put on him ..I particularly liked his torch as my Father was in the Navy and I have a lot of memories of playing with his and later holding it when he worked on the engine of his car..lol..funny how silly things like that can make you smile ..He is a beautiful piece of work 😀
This is a very well made video, I like how you sculpt the piece, and casually comment/explain things, and drop some lines here and there that are sort of a bit humorous. It is also a cool thing that you record voice over the silent footage instead of filming video and audio together. These 50 minutes are much easier to watch than a good lot of the 10-minute videos out there. And I like the sculpture itself of course, it is the reason I clicked on your video in the first place.
Another idea taking is its best for me to do sections with clay and produce 3-D mouth, eyes and all the assemblies thanks for sharing your step procedures!
Always start with a small flat base for stability and a wooden dowel attached to the base to support the neck so it doesn't fall or crack. Absolutely beautiful work👍🏽
Fantastic! You are quite an artist! I am wanting to expand my sculpting by learning to do busts. I will have to look up some of your other videos. Aside from great technique instruction, coverage of all tools, clay, chemicals, and set-up is very important and many people leave these out or skim over them.
This is so helpful and instructional!! And such a pleasure that you don't say "Um" 50 million times like some other RUclips sculptors do... can't wait to start trying my hand at sculpting!
I've never watched such genius in my life! Thank you so much for sharing your expertise. I'm stunned at how incredible you & your Art is. Much respect to you. Tim (from UK)
Very impressive; great presentation as well. The instruction is spot on, you have (and explain) reasons for your actions with a result already in mind.
Man thank you so much for this! I just now discovered you but I look forward to watching the rest of your videos. Seriously one best tutorials I’ve watched all around. Your work is beautiful as well, could watch this all day long.
Well i was watching some sketching videos and came across this tutorial. Its amazingly done a very nice pace good editing good sound and super talented sculptor and teacher. Came for the curiosity stayed for the art. Keep up. Will gladly stay for another hour every time. Cheers.
By far one of the best sculpture tutorial on RUclips. I love how much you took the time to explain everything in detail. I would appreciate more Videos, probably human body, Torso or faces like Apollo. :D awesome work
The explanations are well received for me i understand about th first foundations made a skull bone and neck I'm so deep into his teachings and his fingers for me Im mesmerizing the stare deep into thoughts what talent abilities to have Elliott will be educated on all your freely shared values you can't keep without giving away! All day I'm to words that teach me
Absolutely brilliant mate, whats the process after you've finished...do you make a mold, and in the form its in after finishing...how long does it hold its shape.......asking all these questions, because I'm new to sculptures, thanks
Absolutely beautiful .. you did everything so elaborately. I really learnt a lot from you. I am an Indian Air Force Veteran and am going to make my own portrait with Air Force cap. Thank you so much.
I have never bought a loop tool I just put the size and shape piece of steel wire I have shaped first with fine pliers and twwezers and you can get really detailed with them, then into an old paintbrush in the metal brush holder end after pulling out all old glued up or paint dried hairs, nip it and fill it with 5 minute epoxy, I get a big double syringe for a pound at the pound shop so I admire your thrift tips too ; )
i just had this show up on my feed and im so glad it did :) it is a beautiful sculpture..if you would give this to a vietnam veteran it would be treasured beyond words ( just a thought) :) you just got another subscriber!! and i cant wait to check out all of your other videos You Sir are Amazing!!!!
Amazing stuff. Always wanted to sculpt, I have all the tools but I get stage fright every time. I'm ok with drawing painting and tattooing and people say that I draw like people sculpt but somehow never tried. Gonna watch your vids more today while painting. Thank for your time spent doing it.
It’s super hard and takes a lot of practice. Just because you are good at drawing/painting does not mean you will be good at sculpting- they are very different things. I do all three and sculpting has by far been the most challenging thing I’ve ever done. Two years of practice and still challenging. For sure start working at it ASAP, only way to get better. Good luck.
Ive watched this a dozen times and each time I take a little something with me. Thanks!
This is one of the most amazing works I've seen. You're incredible. That soldier actually has the thousand yard stare. Your sculpture is alive. Thank you so much for sharing, Elliot.
Dang dude, thanks for sharing this. Incredible work
Bobby Duke Arts I follow you 😂
I love your channels and I'm so glad that it has grown so much!
Bobby what are you doin' here? :D
Is there any art channel which he doesn't see
Lol. I’m glad to see him even tho he is the best looking at other people’s art. That’s a true artist
You gave this guy ears and hair and then covered it with a helmet. That, ladies and gentlemen, is a true artist.
That`s OCD :)
Nope, not what OCD it.
That's definitely not OCD
Wowwwww. How dare you sir!
Define true in artist
I love that you referenced Ninja Scroll when talking about that part of the lip. That was a hallmark style of a lot of anime that's almost gone now. Those characters always felt so dimensional. Thanks for the tutorial!
This is by far one of the best live sculpting sessions I've seen. Thanks. hopefully, we'll get to see more awesome things like this in here.
The amouny knowledge dropped in this video is very impressive, the subtle sense of humour was the cherry on top. Thanks brother!
The sculpture is amazing on its own but your understanding of the ugly phases in sculpture plus anatomy is incredibly inspiring and impressive. Great tips as well!

Whats the difference between monster clay and polymer clay?
@@rainbow_2225 Monster Clay is more of a wax-based clay. Not too sure what polymer clays are made out of TBH

Absolutely awesome!!!
Never watched these techniques before and I’m absolutely mesmerized by them. Thank you for showing them.
This reminds me of the painting “Marines Call it That 2,000 Yard Stare” by Thomas Lea, a war artist in the Pacific during WWII.
