The first time I really listened to this show I immediately thought "Wow, this is really something else." Y'all were incredible this year, I'm hoping in several years to audition for and make it into this corp on baritone.
I really like the angle of this video. You can actually see what valves are being pressed instead of trying to guess if the third valve is pressed. I love playing along to these videos to get better at knowing the instrument!
It all started with this video. I thought, how cool it was to watch this run from the field. I can see why they won that year. Here it is 4 years later and I can’t stop watching this. And the finals ceremony has me in tears every time. Such hard work and dedication!
Major props to you! This is probably one of my favorite videos to watch on youtube! I loved crowns show this year! I was so lucky to be able to see it at NightBEAT it was the greatest experience ever!
I give you mad props man, I know those 301Ms have some bulky valves, I use them in my band, and I loved your guys show this year, i watched it a DATR and just fell in love with it.
Marched Tone with Florida State in college, but never got to do corps and always wanted to. This is a great POV video; loved y'alls show and congrats on the championship!
AWESOME video, seriously--this is cool. I think every kid who does marching band, HS or DCI, needs to watch this. You guys kicked serious ass this year and deserved your championship!
Hey so I'm a junior at castle highschool in Newburgh Indiana. I march Bari/Euph and ever since 7th grade it's been my dream to march in carolina crown. I used to live in Charlotte NC but I was wondering if you have any tips that I can use to prepare to audition for crown that would help me get in? Anything would help! Btw finals was amazing
ShavidIce what you have to do is prepare physically, be a flexible musician (music changes all the time along with the difficulty) and always be prepared. Corps have a guideline they like to follow and showing that you're ready for anything really impresses them. BUT unlike what ***** said you're first year dosen't mean a thing. 2013 was my first year marching in Crown, let alone in DCI. I only marched competitively all four years in high school then took a two year break with college marching but I still made Crown, I'm also a geology major. If you work hard enough and show you have the drive you can do anything.
i was wondering when one of u castle members would try to join drum corp ;) i mean you guys look like a open class corp ( except for the woodwinds). whic btw did u end up making it ShavidIce?
reese puff I havent auditioned yet. ill be doing the 2015 season (hopefully) ive already registered and such so i hope to get a spot but i know i have alot of hard work to do! We have a few Castle Alumni who did Scouts and Blue Stars and one of my friends who moved out of the band is in the colts but none have auditioned for crown yet. I hope to be the first!
I'm with Madison, didn't really get to see that many shows this summer, in fact, this is the only show I saw and I saw it once. From this perspective now....damn. Rock on dude.
There is not s single person who can say that crown didnt deserve to win, they sounded the best by far, marched the best, and were the most athletic, i challenge any hater to find a more physically challenging show than this one right here.
Quite a bit of practice and long rehearsal days, but once you understand “Dah, Gah, Dah” (“Dah, Gah, Dah, Gah” for double tonguing) it comes natural. Some thing to try is, with a met, Dah for 4 and Gah for 4 with a 4 rest on replete. Up the tempo and the musical phrases when you get comfortable.
This being my third year of marching, and being the Low Brass section leader. I took some of the runs from Carolina Crown show from 2013 for Baritone/Euphonium and for Tuba. Jeez. I could play them perfectly the first time. However, when it comes to playing them with the entire section... uh... it was a bad idea. I'm still astonished at how a Drum and Bugle Corp could play some of the music in the show. Absolutely amazing, and that's coming from a 3rd year marcher with 3 years in being in Honor Bands and Mid State bands. Amazing
I'm sorry I'm not familiar with crown but, you guys use baritones right? and also do you guys just have baritone parts only or baritone and euphonium parts?
+Edward Quibal It's split in three parts. 1st and 2nd bari and euph. Every corps has their own instrumentation but it generally follows the three parts.
It's a Yamaha brand marching baritone. It could be because of the wide angle lens my GoPro has that could have made the horn look bigger but I've never marched Jupiter so I wouldn't know the difference.
+Frozengames well we do. Every corps has a set number for every year. Normally it's 16 baritones, 8 firsts and 8 seconds, and 8 euphs but it all varies. Sometimes it's more euphs then baritones depending if the music designers wanted a darker sounding show.
I did actually lol I work with Countryside high school but they did not make finals so I went anyways to spend time with some friends who tech at other schools and one being Somerset
Michael Requena As someone who IS a sophomore as Santa Fe high school during the 2013 season, what did you think of our show this year? I thought we deserved 2nd under sunlake. I also think last year we deserved to win 3A, but I want to see a 3rd party opinion.
I'd try to borrow one or something because its totally worth it only mistake I made was bringing one SD card. BUT if it was a DIY, I'd get a sweat band for your head (maybe a smaller one than usual so it stays) and duct tape the camera, most likely an iphone, there and make a strap that would go over your head so the whole thing doesn't slide down. or maybe a jock strap or briefs and a lot of duct tape
Put on a hat backwords and tuck tape the shit out of whatever you are using to record around the adjustable part of the hat. Make sure you shove something on top to make the camera point down.
Dear people that say marching band isn't a sport/ it isn't hard/ doesn't require any skills.. *slap! Excuse me?! I'd like to see you try to memorize music, all of your spots, all of the visuals ,and all the horns up and downs! I'd like to see you try running, flexing your abs, keeping your legs stiff, holding your weakening arms up at 10° above parallel, staying in step, and still playing an instrument all at the same time! I'd like to see you try to have enough self discipline to use your last gasp on blowing through your horn (or woodwind I don't discriminate) instead of holding on to it for your own sake. Marching band isn't hard huh? I'd like to watch you try. Us marching band folk are sick of your crap!
"got no chops" proceeds to murder the entire show
I see you play concert D with the third valve,
I too like to live dangerously
I have seen this comment on many videos. GG
I noticed the Fingering for that as well. I thought it wasn't a baritone for a second.
The first time I really listened to this show I immediately thought "Wow, this is really something else." Y'all were incredible this year, I'm hoping in several years to audition for and make it into this corp on baritone.
EuphoniumPlayer97 so I have to ask... did you go through with it? Don’t worry if you didn’t I was just wondering bc I’m hoping to audition in 2 years
@@WaltWilson it’s been 2 years, did you make it? I’m planning on auditioning next year, and I hope to see you there.
@@foilcharacter3148 how is that going for you? (im genuniely interested)
Upstate one day
If one of y’all don’t give a damn update, there are gonna be problems
Says he has no chops proceeds to sound amazing...
Happy 10 years to this glorious show and this gem of a video
Awe thank you!
I really like the angle of this video. You can actually see what valves are being pressed instead of trying to guess if the third valve is pressed. I love playing along to these videos to get better at knowing the instrument!
I really love that harmony at 4:20!!! I just keep playing it over and over
It all started with this video. I thought, how cool it was to watch this run from the field. I can see why they won that year. Here it is 4 years later and I can’t stop watching this. And the finals ceremony has me in tears every time. Such hard work and dedication!
Props man! I marched Genesis in 2011 and my chops were dead. But every time it was show time they felt good as new! Congrats on the win!
Thanks for posting a head cam video. Yall were amazing this year, wish I could of gone to a show. Congratulations!
I wonder if they had any idea they’d win finals before they did. Absolutely legendary
Not to mention the god awful stuffiness and intonation on more than a few notes.
Marched Tone with Florida State in college, but never got to do corps and always wanted to. This is a great POV video; loved y'alls show and congrats on the championship!
I love this. Thanks for the other perspective
AWESOME video, seriously--this is cool. I think every kid who does marching band, HS or DCI, needs to watch this. You guys kicked serious ass this year and deserved your championship!
7:21-7:41 tho! My God!!!
And I thought my marching band show was hard. Keep up the great work
"Oh god my lips are gone!" That comment made my day xD

Goodluck to you man! I'm honestly still thinking about saving up to audition for phantom after my senior year up at reitz.
I'm 15 going into my second year marching baritone and I love it.
now youre 23/24 and im 15 lol

6:00 "Here we see the majestic brass player in its natural habitat"
I'm with Madison, didn't really get to see that many shows this summer, in fact, this is the only show I saw and I saw it once. From this perspective now....damn. Rock on dude.
This is is a testament to really how physically demanding this show is.
At 11:00 digadadigadadigadadigada for like seven solid seconds, Jesus Christ I love this show
sylvanus weist I think it was 8! They had to have staggered that tho
6:32 instrument toss right there.
My tongue may of fell out of my mouth watching this. The runs.
Any tips on how to practice double/triple tonguing? Btw congrats on an amazing season!!
Nice baritone throw at 6:34
Of all the comments, I like how none of them seem to metion the face at 10:39 😂😂 I am a terrible human being for laughing at that
Heather C not at all lol
7:23 "No..." lmfao I don't blame you.
Any tips on auditioning for a corps for the first time? (i doubt this will get answered but might as well ask)
There is not s single person who can say that crown didnt deserve to win, they sounded the best by far, marched the best, and were the most athletic, i challenge any hater to find a more physically challenging show than this one right here.
Honestly I can't tell you about the random noises I make they changed every time lol
3:45 so that horns up was fucking badass...
Lol I love how you clear your throat before you play like you're about to say something very important. XD
I mean I have a lot of the show music memorized by listening by ear but the part in the video is my favorite
My band teacher marched contra in this show I'm pretty sure
I have always wondered how you can play loud with a trombone or baritone/euphonium without straight up blaring.
+Edward Quibal Months of strength training and an understanding how to use your lungs and ears to keep your tone when you're running around .
+Michael Requena thanks! I'll keep this in mind when play next time!!
+Michael Requena How much better did marching crown make you?
dnickdude you have no Idea how much better crown made me both playing and understanding music
Less lip in the mouthpiece helps you to keep tone while playing loud so act like you're smiling when you're playing and that will really help
did I see a Bb alternate fingering in there?
Do they have treble clef transpositions for baritone?
Brother how do you triple toungue that consistently, that fast, for that long?
Quite a bit of practice and long rehearsal days, but once you understand “Dah, Gah, Dah” (“Dah, Gah, Dah, Gah” for double tonguing) it comes natural. Some thing to try is, with a met, Dah for 4 and Gah for 4 with a 4 rest on replete. Up the tempo and the musical phrases when you get comfortable.

Unless you've done this, you don't fully get it.
Nice Cam!
What type of exercises did your instructors have you guys going through in order to achieve those triplet runs?
During warm up we would have various combinations of "Dah" and "Gah" at slow tempos, then speed up as the exercise went on
What type of month piece were you using?
because they don't restrict movement.
I'm sorry I'm not familiar with crown but, you guys use baritones right? and also do you guys just have baritone parts only or baritone and euphonium parts?
+Edward Quibal It's split in three parts. 1st and 2nd bari and euph. Every corps has their own instrumentation but it generally follows the three parts.
not judging or anything but just curious, but why do you take your fingers off the valves when playing runs? does that help?
Wow this is really cool
Hell yeah! I love that lick.
Lol
I ran out of air just watching him.
11:43 was that mello part also used in For the Common Good?
Yes
What mouthpieces do the Baritones play in Carolina Crown? Is it standardized or changed between parts?
Alexander Amorello idk back then but this year it was their new crown mouthpiece line
also, even though it was evening it was probably still mid 80's
Is that a euphonium or just a big baritone? It looks a lot bigger than the Jupiter baritone I march with
It's a Yamaha brand marching baritone. It could be because of the wide angle lens my GoPro has that could have made the horn look bigger but I've never marched Jupiter so I wouldn't know the difference.
+Michael Requena does Carolina crown use any euphoniums?
+Frozengames we do, that year we marched 8. The guys with the orange shorts are euph players.
+Michael Requena huh my teacher said that there were no euphoniums in DCI
+Frozengames well we do. Every corps has a set number for every year. Normally it's 16 baritones, 8 firsts and 8 seconds, and 8 euphs but it all varies. Sometimes it's more euphs then baritones depending if the music designers wanted a darker sounding show.
I stood next to the tuba on the left at 2:10 during an encore
gotta love the dci baratones!!
Phantom looked pretty tough
holy finger speed... i'm not even a quarter of the way there...
On November 22 or 23rd 2013, did u go to the Tropicana Dome in Tampa Bay and see Somerset Academy play the house ?
I did actually lol I work with Countryside high school but they did not make finals so I went anyways to spend time with some friends who tech at other schools and one being Somerset

Tallformyheight I think somerset deserved 3rd
Damn, that's hard!!!!
Any tips for a DIY headcam for someone who can't really afford a GoPro amidst tour fees and such?
I'd try to borrow one or something because its totally worth it only mistake I made was bringing one SD card.
BUT if it was a DIY, I'd get a sweat band for your head (maybe a smaller one than usual so it stays) and duct tape the camera, most likely an iphone, there and make a strap that would go over your head so the whole thing doesn't slide down.

Marching right shouldered tuba in high school! :D
you just do whatever is comfortable especially when you have chromatic runs at 216 bpm
did you guys March dynasty instruments?
Nah, crown marches Yamaha horns and drums
Good I don't like dynasty
Dynasty isn't all that great I marched a dynasty baritone for years then got my hands on a Yamaha and dynasty is just unbalanced heavy garbage
What kind of mouthpiece you using
Baritones used a Hammond 11L while Euphs used a 12L
cool thanks
How many sets were in this show?
I think a little over 200 sets
***** I really liked the ending
Anyone know what brand that is?
the horn? we march yamaha
Who's Andrea?
yes
The lick was
Did the guy below me just call this a marching band?
I used a Hammond 11L
Those mellos at the end though!!
Wow 4:37 *-*
If this what him having no chops sounds like that I never had one to begin with lmao
Please excuse my noobness, but what is that black thing holding your mouthpiece?
Its called a berp, its on the lead pipe but we use that for buzzing and fingering at the same time during music rehearsal or run-throughs
Dear people that say marching band isn't a sport/ it isn't hard/ doesn't require any skills.. *slap! Excuse me?! Amen, Sister!!! Testify!! :)
marching band isn't a sport it's so much more than that
It's not a sport, doesn't mean it isn't hard tho.
@@michaelhall45 marching band isn't a sport but DCI is a sport
RVYMOND an art not a sport. Very physically demanding but still an art.
How old do you have to be to be in CC?
HoneycombKitty I think 15
Okay thank you!
I'm pretty sure it's 14-21
Shelby rodgers okie :) thank youu
Who do I have to pay for an arrangement lol.
He puts it down at 13:32... "That wasn't a Euph?!"
it wasnt a euph it was a bari
If you play like that when your chops are gone, you must play like Jesus when your chops are there.
one of those GUYS is wearing a sports bra isn't he...
correction, a FEW of those GUYS xD
Because a guy would totally have a perfectly golden ponytail with one of those hairbands in AND wear a sports bra as well?
Obviously you dont see the guy wearing one OVER his white shirt.
I did not :3
That and there were a couple others just wearing bras for kicks too. Its drum corps... HYPE
10:39 Dylan! 😤
What exactly is a month piece? A week? A day?
Dyslexics UNTIE!
Why is everybody wear the same shorts?
Each section wears the same color for hype and they are real easy to clean in the showers
3:47
All I have to say is go Baritones and our band director trys to compare us to you guys. We all know there is no comparison.
baritone.
but crown is still better :D
i respect that the guy rifles are in the # 1 marching band but why are they wearing girl booty shorts?
What kind of mouthpiece are you using?
