It did bring the show together, I just personally don’t like it after the ballad. If it pulled the love card right at the end, maybe it would be less irritating, but no that’s a good portion of the show
Sorry, I forgot to put, "I think," at the beginning of my comment. You're probably right. I just though it made more sense that he meant to say improved.
For everyone who's got their panties in a wad about the counting and singing, a majority of the production this year is based off of Phillip Glass' opera entitled Einstein on the Beach. Judging by your immediate reaction to whine, I'm sure you've have never listened to or heard of it. The opera contains many moments of counting sequences which demonstrate the altering meter changes, and rhythmic modulations. Also, considering this a show about Einstein and physics, I think it is safe to say that
Geatle on one of the victory runs videos for CC’13, it was filmed from way up and they kept the view still so you can see all the action. The vocalists going back out to the hornline or coming off the hornline...also the tympanists switch from tymps to horns. And one guy on the hornline starts twirling a rifle for a bit then prances back out to the hornline. Very curious stuff going on during that epic program.
I watch DCI RUclips vids including Crown all the time. This was published 8 years ago and this is the first time it's come across my feed??? Terrific vid, terrific show, obviously. I never knew the horn line had this much raw power. Thanks for posting!
Thank you for this information. I had a feeling Einstein was somehow involved/connected to the show based on the title, and I was about to go to Crown's website for more information on the production.
I like this arrangement of the show better. A couple things they added were better, and obviously cleaning and making it more musical helped. But I like how just raw and loud this is.
:O....Thats my jaw dropping how amazing this how is. Its cleaner and it has so much more room to add things....i said it last year..THIS IS CROWN'S YEAR!!!
I have a couple comment on this: first off to me it's just spectacular, even though its only spring training. Secondly , yes the counting and stuff is kinda ignoring at first but there's a reason for it. Why would crowns amazing staff put in features that they think would damage them?
Trying to decide on pursuing ballet as I've always dreamed or going into drum corps. Listening to Phantom and The Crown isn't making choosing any easier.
Piggybacking off of what has already been touched on in this comment section-- this show indeed makes SO much more sense if you're familiar with "Einstein on the Beach". This is absolutely a very, very cool show.
Just some advice about this video. If you don't want to lose your ability to have monetized videos and put it in "bad standing" for copyright infringement, you NEED to take it down before it gets flagged. Once you're in bad standing, there's not really any getting out of it. So if you're in this for the views, is recommend deleting ASAP before it gets flagged. Not trying to be a dick, but that's what's going to happen the longer you leave it up.
I have to disagree with this comment, yes she might appear stiff but plenty other corps have and still do conduct with that style. Maybe not the whole show, but it's still used. I just saw her today (at rehearsal and the show) and she gives off a lot of energy to the corps.
Take it up with Mr. Phillip Glass. It is in his original. The narraration voicing is almost verbatim to the original recording..if anything, crown made it better b
For all of the idiots out there who think there is too much "counting and singing" in this piece, please look up "Einstein on the Beach" by Philip Glass. That might clear things up for you.
I feel like the counting is just going to get on people's nerves. Other than that, the rest of the show is pretty cool. Let's just wait and see if it's a great as last year's
Can't see how that's prejudice since its 40+ years of tradition, and the people who "lack the sophistication" built the foundation for these people to march today. They don't like it, wasn't the route they thought it'd go. So if you really have a problem with that, ask yourself, where would they actually be today without the old school people.
I know It's early days and there is much revision yet to come, but this show feels very choppy. Personally, I'd either kick up the Philip Glass elements (and get a better orator for the "Two Lovers" monologue) or cut out about 70% of it. It feels like they need to commit to either doing "drum corps" or doing Philip Glass. This hybrid isn't working for me - yet.
Love the music, but too much talking. I'm not so old school that I hate all the electronics, I just think that there's too much of it in this show. I'm sure it's going to be just beautiful when they get the uniforms in there too.
So..crown, or any drumcorps has to not play any music that may have these elements..singing etc, in the original, or they have to do a piece everyone knows? Therefore they are limited by your prejudices or lack of sophistication? Too bad for you. If you have a problem with the singing and narraration, take it
The vocals were the weakest part of their show that year. They got way better since this performance, but I still think they were the weakest part in the end. (not that's saying much) It makes since when you consider that people normally don't get join/get in to DCI for their speaking abilities.
Should it all be pop culture references and overplayed songs? This show had a perfect balance of the difference pieces used. Einstein on the Beach by Phillip Glass had genius implementation in this show.
Everyone complained about the counting and narration but it's the only thing that really brought this show together.
Kaitlin Camp agree, at first I didn’t like it, but the show has a unique story which really makes it stand out
Jason Dhonau can you explain the story to me i dont get this show
It did bring the show together, I just personally don’t like it after the ballad. If it pulled the love card right at the end, maybe it would be less irritating, but no that’s a good portion of the show
I'm indifferent on the narration, but the vocals were amazing and were implemented amazingly
holy crap, to see how much they changed the show from this to championships is pretty neat!
it changed a lot less than most of the top shows...
+George Dixon he's talking about how much better it sounded at finals
Erick Veloz oh then he means improved, not changed
Sorry, I forgot to put, "I think," at the beginning of my comment. You're probably right. I just though it made more sense that he meant to say improved.
George Dixon They added in a bunch of visuals

It's brilliant!
They came such a long way. They really do know how to utilize their rehearsal time.
This was the first-ever rehearsal video I watched all the way back in 2013. It made me want to march DCI and I am so glad I did.
Yeah good thing they switched Kevin in for Hunter on the narration in Mvt 4
+Luke Shaffer are the people who do the narrations in the pit?
+Geatle no they were hornline, but one of the guys was a drum major

Great choice on the staff to change the narrator
Luke Shaffer THats the ballad right

1:15 is so in tune it hurts
After seeing their show live, I came to really love it. I hope they take it this year! :)
I come from the future. They win
@@charliegessner7473 i come further in the future they haven't won since this show sadly
@@Sinatra2321😢
dang completely different from the final product
I love how they pretty much have section shorts
cooljw1 Every seciton in DCI ususally does.
Ian Fullen Nice, in our marching band, we do section shirts, I'm pretty positive most bands do that as well
Love this video. We get to see the fantastic showmanship of the corps members themselves with the closeups. Thanks for sharing!
!!!CROWN SHOULD OWN THIS YEAR!!!
Damn we sucked! lol
Great show , can't wait to see this live!

agreed
you can tell its the first full run of the season because their still pale...
Can't wait to see this live. Thanks for posting!
this is so great. it's going to be another amazing summer!!!
Wow
Mind blown. Can't wait to see this in person soon :)
Congrats to the camera man. Good to know the tenor line didn't get completely ignored..........
:O....Thats my jaw dropping how amazing this how is. Its cleaner and it has so much more room to add things....i said it last year..THIS IS CROWN'S YEAR!!!
DRT Danny you were right
This. Is. So. AMAZING!
I'm pretty sure their first run would by my schools championship performance. And we placed first!
This, is what butter would sound like ! Can't wait to see this show !
Watching this show at RCC was amazing..
I have a couple comment on this: first off to me it's just spectacular, even though its only spring training. Secondly , yes the counting and stuff is kinda ignoring at first but there's a reason for it. Why would crowns amazing staff put in features that they think would damage them?

Magical
yeah, but what William is saying is that their percussion is second right now, which means the odds of them being sixth come finals is very slim

Ugh why cant crown build into musical moments like this now a days
I have to disagree with this comment, yes she might appear stiff but plenty other corps have and still do conduct with that style. Maybe not the whole show, but it's still used. I just saw her today (at rehearsal and the show) and she gives off a lot of energy to the corps.
So the whole counting thing reminds me of when you turn a Dr.Beat onto the voice setting and turn the tempo high and the beat to a weird setting.
Cool ... In your face music is back, it seems. Well done.
That gate on the vocals tho.
Who goes to a crown rehearsal and focuses on the percussion?
What is the guy in the blue hat in the foreground controlling? Is he recording, controlling the audio?
Take it up with Mr. Phillip Glass. It is in his original. The narraration voicing is almost verbatim to the original recording..if anything, crown made it better b
Should be SEMC=2. Sopranos, Euphoniums, Mellos and Contras = 2 blown ear drums.
For all of the idiots out there who think there is too much "counting and singing" in this piece, please look up "Einstein on the Beach" by Philip Glass. That might clear things up for you.
Slow pans buddy...slow pans...ouch my eyes. Bitching aside, thanks for capturing this!
Is this Cadets or Crown? lol, I know, just thought I would say it first.
This may be the year crown.
So what’s next?
Synchronized swimming?
you're not gonna believe this
whats the song at 6:00 ?
The only problem I have with this is I believe they may just go for over powering brass with a 6th place percussion again...
The timpani sound weird.
What size tubas do they use?
Gentry Walker I'm guessing full yamahas
Gentry Walker we use full-on Yamaha marching tubas baby
So 4/4.
Gentry Walker yup
I think that Dey hav a chance of winning the championship this year
If they pull the off... World champs.
I feel like the counting is just going to get on people's nerves. Other than that, the rest of the show is pretty cool. Let's just wait and see if it's a great as last year's

so glad its a drum corps instead of a marching band then
Nah, I'll let Phillip Glass have his song, I'll just leave my money in my pocket this year, instead of just complaining about it.
I know It's early days and there is much revision yet to come, but this show feels very choppy. Personally, I'd either kick up the Philip Glass elements (and get a better orator for the "Two Lovers" monologue) or cut out about 70% of it. This run through could've easily won first place at a high school band competition honestly
Well, I'm glad this is not a high school marching band. Rather it is a drum Corps
...and they will...
wow they changed a lot...
So..crown, or any drumcorps has to not play any music that may have these elements..singing etc, in the original, or they have to do a piece everyone knows? singing, counting, speaking, amplifiers..It a really good marching band.
Easily top 3 in high school nationals
You mean easily first place in high school nationals?
This would destroy Vandegrift, Hebron, Broken arrow, Carmel, Avon, The Woodlands..
Is this drum corps or Glee?
The vocals were the weakest part of their show that year. They got way better since this performance, but I still think they were the weakest part in the end. (not that's saying much) It makes since when you consider that people normally don't get join/get in to DCI for their speaking abilities.
All of them marched or conducted the rest of the show
Yeah, maybe they should leave it out then. I said this about the Cadets before: Great brass, bad vocal. Having an opinion is certainly okay.
Yeah, leave the lead trumpet out to dry at 2:45...nice arranging, NOT.
Here we go again...unfamiliar music with vocals....
Lol
Should it all be pop culture references and overplayed songs? This show had a perfect balance of the difference pieces used. Einstein on the Beach by Phillip Glass had genius implementation in this show.
Grow up
Drum major appears stiff, rigid like a robot. How can the corp perform with emotion when their director lacks it.
Do high school bands have drum majors dancing on the podium? No.
Too much talking and counting. Stop flopping around the field.
Grow the hell up.
