Update: we got back home on Nov 10th. The trip was amazing, as expected. One thing you could touch on in future videos is where you walk. We watched other channels about this, but no one mentioned how confusing it could really be. Tokyo was generally walk on the left, Kyoto was all over the place and Nara was walk on the right (like Osaka, apparently), from what we experienced. Some stairs and pathways in stations switched from walking on the right to left. But we loved our time so much, I’m willing to do more “on-location” research 😁
My comment isn’t specific to this video. Rather I just wanted to publicly thank you for your channel. We have just returned from Japan, our first trip that wasn’t primarily a ski trip. We found your advice was very accurate and super helpful. For example we used Smart Ex to buy Shinkansen tickets and linked them to our PASMO cards - a vv convenient way to buy tickets online and then not have to collect them from a ticket office or machine. We also used your advice to decide on esims. I’ll be unsubscribing but will definitely be back when we plan our next trip. I’ve also recommended your channel to friends who have found it equally useful.
Just wanted to thank you so much for all your advice and videos!!! I am officially one week away to Japan ❤ I have Japan Wireless waiting, Klook download, and packed accordingly and have taken all your advice! 😊 Arigatoo 🤩 I'm ready Japan ❤🇯🇵
Well I'm most excited to eat? Lol 😅 and also I'll be going to Hokkaido which will be my very first time! I do have family in Japan as well, which is why I try to go at least once a year, but even someone like me still needs all the advice I can get as Japan is such a huge country, although small? 😊 Again, thank you so much for everything! ❤
@@KenshoQuest Hi George and Heidi I raised a question on purchasing Kurobe Gorge Rail Pass via your affiliated link on Klook, under your live video last week on JR Pass. Hope you could give me some guidance, thanks!
Hi @sheihyiinyew2593! sorry for missing your question. Are you having trouble purchasing the tickets? Of note, you can only go as far as Nekomata station due to the Noto Earthquake. But now is the perfect time for fall leaves. Let us know if you have issues. Here is the link on klook: geni.us/kurobegorge Or you can purchase directly from the official site ( there are quite a few steps involved ) but you can select a particular time: www.kurotetu.co.jp/en/reservations/
Like the organization of this video. and yes..have a video on how to pack light/minimal for a US to Japan week long trip in the cold winter ! :) IF you can. the challenge..add a brief video on "pack in personal bag only" for the same trip.. video (1 pr of shoes only, wear all oitter wear..skip the computer and the like) . Cus, some young people can do with less.
@ I wouldn’t wear just sneakers in the snow. If you have boots that aren’t very warm you could wear two pairs of socks with them. You might want to buy cheap ice spikes when you arrive to put on your shoes, if the ground is icy. ❄️ I will make a video about packing for winter in Japan soon. 🌸 Heidi
Thank you for such a helpful video!! I’m heading to Japan on my honeymoon in a few weeks and I’m curious about going through security in the airport in Japan when we’re coming home. Is it pretty similar to TSA in the states? Do they have specific rules like 3-1-1 or taking off shoes? Thank you again for all of your helpful videos.
There are very similar rules for airport security in Japan. Liquids can be up to 100ml and packed in a 1 Liter clear bag. You might not need to remove your shoes. I’m sometimes asked to when I’m wearing snow boots. The security staff are very polite, with white glove service. Have a wonderful time on your honeymoon! 🌸 Heidi
Hi Heidi, do you have noise cancelling headphones for your kids for long haul flights? Or just regular headphones, or do they just use the supplied ones on the plane? I'm also thinking of use on shinkansen with devices. Thanks!
Hi. Our 10-year-old has regular kid's headphones (affiliate link): amzn.to/48oZinR He has an iPad, so he uses the headphones along with his iPad on the Shinkansen trains. Our 6-year-old and 3-year-don't have headphones. They just use the provided ones on the airplane. It's entertainment for our 3-year-old to open the headphones, plug, and unplug them. Half the time he doesn't even use them while watching a movie. Here's a video where our kids showed what they packed in their airplane backpacks: ruclips.net/video/ulMPIiaEAYU/видео.html 🌸 Heidi

@@KenshoQuest yes, I am planning to go to Japan next year. Super excited!
Bro when I heard the sneeze I was so confused, thought it was another source LOL
Bless your husband 🤣
Sorry about that. It's hard not to have background noise as a family of 5.
Thanks!
Thank you!

@@KenshoQuestGoing to japan first time, can i buy Suica and JR tickets simultaneously! I don't have it
@ Yes. If you go into a JR office you can get a registered Suica card with your name on it, and also buy JR bullet train tickets.

Nice! Do the AirPods work well when watching movies? I'd like to get a pair someday.
@@KenshoQuest one downside is that they’re easy to lose. I haven’t tried watching movies on a plane with them.

@@KenshoQuest Thanks so much Heidi!
That backpack is too big for a personal item bag on United Airlines.
United Airlines allows a personal item that is 17" x 10" x 9" and the Canvelle backpack is 15" x 11" x 5.5", so yes, it's 1" too wide.
Pros don't check in anything. Look into one bag travel instead. You bring along a lot of crap
If you prefer one bag travel, I have a video on that as well: ruclips.net/video/RI4dkf0jOAE/видео.html
