If you want a reason WHY the preposition rule was put into effect, Tony Randall in the first WC gives a great example.

I hadn't realized this show was this old. I've seen the 25,000 version on the old Game Show Network more often than any other version. This episode features two of my favorite celebs, too.

A lot of the episodes from the 70s version were wiped, as was the common practice at the time. So the 70s version hasn’t gotten the same kind of exposure in reruns as the 80s version has.

Back in an era where video tape was expensive (so it was reused) and nobody thought that a 50 year old game show would have any rerun value.

The ABC run had been preempted 15 times by this point.
The most recent preemption was a 90-minute Special hosted by Patricia Neal titled "The American Woman: Portraits of Courage" on May 20, 1976.

Great job, ABC, at wiping most of the 70's run of the Pyramid.

These early episodes were the best with the excitement and the screaming and yelling and genuine happiness for the money they won ! In the 80s and beyond most of the winners were asked to sit and calm down way too soon !!!!!

I'm so unhappy that the first several years of the Pyramid game show has been erased. But we still have tapes of shows from the 60's and 50's still out and able to watch. Shame on whoever erased those early Pyramid episodes.

Michael Strayhan in the current $100,000 Pyramid doesn't even let the winners rejoice. He hurriedly walks over to the Winners Circle and interrupts the excitement. What a shame.😢😢

And Claudia won 99 times what she had won in the first Winner's Circle. She won the regular $550 in bonus round, but also earned another $14,300 for completing the pyramid and left.

@@paulnguyen8910 During the ABC Pyramid era, everything was aggregated to the top prize so if she won $15,000, that's exactly what she got to leave with give or take. If a contestant won $10,000, that person takes home exactly $10,000 no more, no less. The next show that would follow that procedure was Match Game 1990.
