In these Recuerdos de la Alhambra guitar lesson videos we will take on the iconic acoustic guitar piece by Francisco Tarrega.
Now for those of you who are unfamiliar with this beautiful acoustic instrumental, "Recuerdos de la Alhambra" is by far the most popular classical guitar piece ever written.
Now don't start thinking, "Hey wait a minute, I don't play classical guitar, so I should skip these Recuerdos de la Alhambra guitar lesson videos...". In reality, a tune like this will be a great study for any player, especially those who play acoustic fingerstyle.
Don't limit yourself to just classic rock repertoire or blues or whatever. You will be missing out on the huge amount of technical possibilities available to us as guitarists and you will be missing out on a lot of great music as well.
Having said that, for those who do tackle this beautiful tune you will find it to be a nice challenge. As you will discover in these Recuerdos de la Alhambra guitar lesson videos this piece uses a fingerpicking technique called tremelo which repeats throughout the entire tune.
Most tunes originally written for classical guitar are only available in standard sheet music including Recuerdos de la Alhambra.
However, knowing that 99% of guitarists can't read standard sheet music I have taken it upon myself to TAB out the entire tune myself and make it available for download below. Man I am such a nice guy!! :)
Be sure to grab the PDF because the lesson will be very difficult to follow along with otherwise.
Have fun with these Recuerdos de la Alhambra guitar lesson videos, and Good Luck!

Fantastic piece, great lesson. It's inspired me to study medicine, because I reckon it'll be quicker and easier to get a medical degree than it will to nail that tremolo. I'll keep trying though, just in case my fingers ever hook up with my brain. Thanks again.

haahah we all have been there man. i finally got it a while ago. took me lots of time almost a month. just keep on trying. the best tip that helped me was to relax each finger after it hits the string. goodluck bro

It's going OK. I have the tremolo at a good pace. I try to play along with Xuefei Yang's version. The right hand can keep up, but it still has that "galloping" sound, which means I still need to polish my tremolo. The left hand is the one that's giving me some trouble with some chord changes. But I'll get there, even if it kills me!

  • @eschelar

I particularly appreciated the explanation of that hammer-on-pull-off, which I could not get my head around.
Also, your fingering is a lot more natural than the version I learned, which is basically all barred. Thanks to my many years working with computers, my RSI does not like me to do barre for a long time, so that was a major obstacle to finishing this one. Gonna give this another go!

  • @OscarGuitare

2 years beginner here. Thx for the lesson. Something that can be really helpful is learning only the thumb part. The melody on the b string is way harder to nail with the tremolo if you don't. Especially for those who did some finger picking and mess up by playing the other strings like me.

Keep it going, the future holds nothing but good things for you!! I have a 94' ceder top Humphrey millennium, that DD knows well. It served me well throughout my career. It is housed in a custom Mark Leaf case. If you know anyone just shoot me a note. Once again, I know that DD is very proud of you.

The melody is always in the tremolo. The melody is NOT in the bass. It is always supportive. The tremolo is an effect to imply a sustaining melody as a solution to the guitar's decaying sound. Great piece! As far as tremolo pieces go, I'm partial to Campanas del Alba by Eduardo Sainz de la Maza. Fpr thos e of you who don't know it, check it out.
