The reason why this toy’s music sounds scary and weird is because all the notes it plays goes out of tune. They start at a pitch, but then they do a little glissando 100 to 200 cents up. Say if it starts on a G, it goes up to G# or A. The notes going out of tune is very noticeable. It’s common for an old toy to do that when you haven’t played it for a long time. So yeah, that’s what happens to a toy like that.
The songs are The Toreador March from George Bizet's opera Carmen, and The Entertainer by Scot Joplin. I just wish I could have heard the Entertainer all the way through.
