It's worth another experiment. Instead of burying the Max Trax at 90°, try burying them at 45° pointing uphill (away from the vehicle). Once you can drive past the hole, the Max Trax can be dragged out by hooking the straps to the back end. Maybe even add a tree strap to the top handles for easier extraction.
Great stuff mate, You have just saved me the cost of a sand anchor I reckon! I have just been researching a few videos on them and then stumbled across this! Thanks for the video appreciate it
likely already added : best to put the maxtrax against the undisturbed sand as that will be firmer /harder --- an old bushie trick ;) . Great idea to dig in the tow line :)
My old boss and good friend Malcolm Douglas taught the Aussie SAS to bury the spare tyre 4 or 5ft down then running your winch cable off that and burying the lot...tho he was doing advising this in hard red dirt country, not beach sand... but it would probably still work, maybe go a bit deeper for safety. Like the Max Trax idea tho, adaptability using what you have is always key.
I was JUST wondering if it’s possible to winch yourself out of sand by burying something in the sand. And a few days ago, I was wondering if you REALLY need crawl control or can just do it yourself. And you had a video that covered it. Awesome content! Helps me figure out how I’d like to set up my F-150 for some off road adventures
Cheers for the great idea. It might work even better if you buried them horizontally, as the entire tracks would be pulling against an even amount of sand, instead of wanting to lever themselves out of the hole.
To increase mechanical advantage, use a 1 or 2 pulley. Nice in the sand, a little different with mud or snow. Regardless, they do work as ground anchors. I used my track sideway,, less digging, but need MA to increase your capacity. Great video. Hey from Canada.
Good review Michael, might need to re think the deadman ground anchor purchase 🤔 since I’ve already got 4 Maxtrax. Great videos and content, just subbed to your channel 👍🏽
Nice. 😁👍 I subscribed and have been following you for a while and found your stuff both entertaining and informative. I thought this one was good enough to share with my FB 4x4 buddies.
From experience with snow anchors when climbing If you dig a groove for the treestrop which then pulls in straight line not over a hump should work better
You should have filled in the max tracks in the rear as well it would have stabilized them and probably made it able for you to only winch even further
Yea I can lol, I have been following you for awhile so that’s easy. When are you going to do a trip with subscribers/viewers as that would be awesome to be part of.
At least you've got a better setup than what I've got I've a I've got 5 metres of chain and another metre and a half on the on the 1 tonne lever block which is my winch and I own a Daihatsu Terios
9 cubicfeet of sand weighs 900 pounds. 3x3x3 which is close to the hole you digged. The tracks were buried vertically. Try burying them horizontzl at the bottom ofthe hole. That way the full weight of the sand will be your resistance.
It really didn’t look like they were pulling out just looked like it was pulling up against the loos sand where you had dug but you can’t always tell but the camera either
You need to film it all in action, with the 4by bogged in such a way that the you couldn't use the maxtrax to get out, by using them under the tyres, and the winch is the only option. Plus, make it time critical (ie. Like it's your wedding that you could miss if you don't get out) 🤣
Awesome idea, heaps less work than with a spare tyre. It would be interesting to see what Max Trax have to say about using them like this. They will probably double the price if they get wind of this 🤣🤣🤣.
Of you got nothing to burry, take off your pants and fill them with sand first, then dig a big hole and burry them. Can pull a bulldozer with it. I tried it 😂. And of course do not try to recover your pants 🙈
The hole is smaller to bury Maxtrax, and also they are easier to get too for me. Two good enough reasons for me 🙂. A spare tyre is always an option though 👍
I think you kind of missed the point of the video mate, its a proof of concept video. I know sometimes we have had some really hairy situations on the beach where being able to have an anchor point up on the sand dune would have made it so much easier. In Part 2 I actually show you what I mean about where this would be useful, check it out if you want 👍😊 ruclips.net/video/-Wczt6l9a0I/видео.html
Very interesting. I'd love to see you do this again with a bogged car.

Thanks for the vid mate, for a novice 4wder any tips\alternative ways like this are brilliant to know
Thanks for spreading the knowledge
Great stuff mate,

Great job thanks for sharing. I had been wondering about this for quite some time. Now I know it works. Please keep the videos coming!
This guy has such a great attitude to life
Never to old to learn new tricks mate, Cheers

Great video Michael, they worked really well, and I loved the way you got them out at the end. Not lazy - practical.

Probably placing the strap even lower on the MaxTrax would have given you more traction. Anyway, love to see you share your out of the box ideas.

Keep up with the video's, your doing great job . Love watching your stuff
Totally awesome idea. U could use in a t shape as well. Dam good stuff gr8 vid
Well how about that!! Now I def want some maxtrax! Awesome idea!
Good to always be thinking!!! Next try digging them in when on the desert ground lol. Well done.
Great idea! Would probably work in snow a!so! Thanks for trying different ways to recover stuck trucks/cars!
MJ Railey actually more established idea in snow deadman plates used for winter climbing as are ice axes or skis
Greetings from the USA! Awesome video just Subbed.
Very clever m8 , luv the channel and keep em coming 👍🍻

Another great vid , I always look forward to seeing them thanks 👍
Nice. 😁👍 I subscribed and have been following you for a while and found your stuff both entertaining and informative. I thought this one was good enough to share with my FB 4x4 buddies.
I'd really like to see you use a boat anchor for a recovery.
More tools for the toolbox. Great ideas
to increase holding power grab buckets of water and soak the sand when its dry. settled wet sand helps 20% more.
Just subscribed Michael, watched a few of your videos and like the realism’s.👍
What if you have only 2 that is all I would have? like the idea would not have extra anchor
What a great idea!!!

Good thinking Michael...making do with what you've got is part of the adventure wouldn't you say?
I noticed your clothes line in the rear seat. I've been doing that for quite a while, and my mates bag me out for it, but it works.
Very different but it works, when is the next trip video coming out
Yea I can lol, I have been following you for awhile so that’s easy. When are you going to do a trip with subscribers/viewers as that would be awesome to be part of.
Nice one Micheal
Did you test this idea with a bogged car? How did it go?
At least you've got a better setup than what I've got I've a I've got 5 metres of chain and another metre and a half on the on the 1 tonne lever block which is my winch and I own a Daihatsu Terios
Good show mate
what shovel is that? I need to find that
2:25 yes, yes i was
Well done!
Isn’t the idea to put the tracks under the wheels so you don’t need to winch? 😂

Great info mate another sub here

And on only one leg while wearing an eye patch..........

They are already twice as expensive as anything else on the market!
More great info, cheers 👍
Much respect
Would like to see just 2 tracks used
1 with the cheap ones you had
And a vid while the truck bogged
Maybe part 2 Lol
Great vid Very late I’m sure
Should have turned them horizontally
That's rad...👍...
Thanks, buddy...Can't wait for the next rad vid...👌...
Sub'd for content and your humor
Great idea mate , try it again bogged. Could be interesting
Miss your content 😢
Wait a minute. This dude's driving on the left side of the car :O
A quality plow anchor would save a lot of time and effort.
Any recommendations, I’m currently in the market.
Interesting but you weren't actually bogged :) If they could pull out a bogged vehicle I would be seriously impressed.
If you have a snow test, I'll subscribe to your channel.

Why is this man so cute?
LOL, old age? You wait till you get to my age. You'll be hoping you have a cell signal!
Imagine if you could get as many likes as you get views. Just saying. Have an awesome day M8's.
You weren't even bogged to start with... go down to the diff and try again
should have put smaller wheels and bigger tyres.
your not even stuck"""
Also burry them flat
u gotta come out of retirement
Just bury your spare tire.
The hole is smaller to bury Maxtrax, and also they are easier to get too for me. Two good enough reasons for me 🙂. A spare tyre is always an option though 👍
Pulling out traction boards is much faster than getting a spare off the truck lol
I think the problem is you used maxtrax. Get yourself a pair of treads! ROFL
This was stupid.
1st: they're maxtrax.. stick em under the tyres..
2nd: you weren't bogged.
