Wonderful video. It`s a few years since we did the Gap of Dunloe, that was in the car. I`ll have to go back there on the bike soon ! Thanks for sharing 😄😄
Sorry, i didn’t leave a comment when we first watched on the big TV. Some amazing roads, it's just a shame the weather was a little inclement. A beer (or Guinness) after a long ride is something to really look forward to. Carol & I enjoy the tour of the hotels as much as the riding. We often make a note if it's in an area we've still not ridden
Than you Richard - the roads are fantastic and the country as a whole is support bike touring! We said it before but we think you and Carol would love an Ireland tour! 😀👍
I was in Killarney in the summer. Got up one morning nice and early going past Kate Kearney's around 7am to avoid having to reverse too much as I have a chronic back condition.😬 All went well, until I got to Black Valley and a eight wheel tipper full of tarmac came at me. He couldn't pass me even with me in a passing alcove, I ended up having to reverse almost mile to a driveway out of his way. My back was in agony but was worth that and the early rise, it's jaw dropping. Last I was up there I was 12 with family. Only way up the then unmade track was either in a 4x4 or with the Jarvies or walk! And did make a wish on the bridge And it came to be eight years later! 😁 We were together 30 years. Love the videos.

I know from my experience of working with dash cam 1080 footage and moving up to the big 4k makers you hyper sensitive to getting those colours right. Seeing the spray from your rear wheel captured and rendered so well and not as a murky mist WOOOOW . Of course Sue will be Heyyy you are making my Steed look dirty hahah Yes 4k shows why she is weaving . The slippy poo patches have to be avoided , I wondered if Sue had picked up some on the rear disk :(( . Wonderful series just wonderful . Thank you sooooo much. 🤓💯🎬📽🎶

The Gap of Dunloe is a beautiful place, up there high on the favourite/best roads to ride. Soo many in Ireland. If I had to pick one I think for me it would be the N71 from Bantry to Killarney. It has every thing, beautiful scenery, a few places to stop along the way and good pace can be had at times.👍🏻🏍🍻
Thanks very much Gary - we knew there would be great alternatives! So good to have new recommendations - we’ll have to ride that road on our next trip! 😀👍
Super video guys ...i love that part of the world. I've ridden up and over the Healy Pass so many times, but the views sa you head down towards Kerry are always a joy. And the change from rugged hillsides to mossy wooded lanes is lovely! Another fab film...look forward to seeing more! Cheers Steve 💚
Thanks for another amazing episode. Based on your videos I keep adding items to my bucket list for an Irish bike trip. (And congrats on maintaining the famous British stiff upper lip in the face of British weather (and British brakes).)
When we were in Dublin in August, we took the Guinness tour. Normally, 11 am is a little early for a drink.. but it was Guinness so all was good and the view of Dublin was nice at the top of the brewery.
Happy to see you in my back yard! Such a shame on the weather, unfortunately it’s been a summer of rain, but I think you still enjoyed it. We’re in the fortunate position of choosing the blue sky days to ride those roads, though in the summer the Healy pass can get busy, I think I remember it raining the last time you were in Ireland, so keep returning and one day you’ll see the blue skies 😉
Myself and my Wife (pillion) rode all that area a few weeks ago. Both Kerry and Cork are Stunning places for motorbiking. We rode the opposite way on the Gap of Dunloe. Similar weather, similar gripe with the horse sh1t on the road, but still an amazing place to ride. Highly recomended. Your video is class by the way👏👏
Fantastic road, and up there with one of the most scenic routes. The horse people don't like bikers, and try to make life difficult for you. Your timing seemed perfect, only passing a couple of buggies!!! The horse 💩 does make for a more challenging ride in wet weather!!!! Well done on a safe and successful trip 👏
Wonderful images. I failed to do Molly’s Gap earlier this year for fear of duelling with the horse & traps. Did Kenmare as part of Kerry Ring and also Dingle Ring. As we both known breath taking scenery and the roads are very quiet in comparison to our Lake District or similar. I don’t think U.K. bikers visit Eire as much as the rest of Europe but it’s a definite bucket list destination. Keep up the good work. 👍👍
Thank you both, another great video and what an exceptional piece of road that was. I don't think you could get better. An absolute joy to watch and as always your editing is flawless 👌
More excellent video footage, great sound track and typical Irish weather. My first visit to the Gap of Dunloe was by bicycle in the late 60’s while youth hosteling and my last visit was in Oct 2020 riding in the opposite direction to you and Sue. I was more fortunate with the weather. On that occasion I stayed at the Happy Pig guesthouse in Kenmare which caters for outdoor enthusiasts - covered barn for bike storage along with an enclosed heated drying room for wet gear and a great Irish breakfast. Highly recommended. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Thanks for the recommendation Brian 👍 always good to know! It really is a stunning ride through amazing scenery so we’ll have to do it again - in the sunshine preferably!😀👍

Yet another very watchable video. The gap of Dunloe is a public road so anyone can traverse it. It doesn't belong to the Jarvies and they don't like ANYONE or ANYTHING that comes into what they see as their domain. I would say that it is best to come down the way you came rather than trying to come up from the bottom where Kate Kearny's Cottage is. The Jarvies are well practiced in blocking as much of the road as they can to give the uninitiated the impression that you can go no further than the carpark. With regard to the brake failure I would suggest that it was possibly brake fade rather than total failure as from the right turn at the top of the road to the bottom it is a twisty hill with the horse droppings and wet road you could have been dragging the back brake more to avoid using the front.
Thank you 🙏 good to know that we came in from the right side of the Gap - the next time we’ll try and go it before any horse traffic starts up! We think you’re right about brake fade👍 Thanks for watching! 😀

Stunning ride! While dry roads would be a bonus, avoiding the horse carriages would be crucial. Good job only running into 1 near the end. Please fill me in on your rear brake failure. Seeing as I ride the same bike I’m more than curious. I have about 8000 miles with probably a third off road. The bike’s been a gem. Not a hiccup. (Touch wood)
Hi Bob, this is the only issue I’ve had with my 900 in three and a half years and 18000 miles. There is a fairly long, twisty road leading to the Gap and the weather was appalling so I was probably using my rear brake a lot. The failure was sudden - it just went completely soft with no breaking power at all. After a couple of minutes, it started to tighten up again and probably after about five minutes it was back to normal. We’ve actually had some really useful comments suggesting the over use due to the road conditions and the weather was probably the cause. I’ve just had our local mechanic look at it and he found no fault at all and, like some of our more technical subscribers, suggested it was brake fade rather than brake failure. He changed the break fluid and checked for air in the system and I’ve had no problems since !🤷♀️😀
Great video as normal sorry about the weather and well done sue going down the pass with no rear brake..!!! Ps what Rukka jackets do both wear...??? I look forward to seeing your nxt video 👍👍🏍🏍🏍🏍
The rear brake on my Honda NC750X failed this year in the Dolomites only to return 10 minutes later. I had fitted sintered pads and reckon the calipers were not dissipating the extra heat, transferring it instead to the brake fluid. Apparently the slightest quantity of water in there can boil rendering the hydraulic fluid useless - until it re-cools. Scary stuff.
Hi Great vid, Exactly the same thing happened to my rear brake in France last year. I thought it may have been the heat or altitude but seeing it happen on yours makes me wonder is there an issue here with the rear brakes?
Brake fade, either boiling brake fluid as got too hot or pad material overheating. Very scary when this happens. Try changing down a gear and use less brake and spread load between front and rear brake.
@@midlifemotorcyclediaries my travel partner exploded his brake line coming down a long descent in norway, all i could see in my mirrors was a cloud of vapour and a large bang.
Great video series, I enjoy watching your travels through amazing scenery and places to visit. The main stopping brake for a motorcycle is the front brake. Many motorcycle myths say that if you use the front brake in slippery or adverse conditions you will lock the front wheel and drop the bike, this is correct for someone applying the brakes incorrectly. The brakes should be squeezed on, the initial movement to load weight onto the front tyre and then squeezed harder for the appropriate amount required to slow or stop. Once the front tyre is loaded to the road the chances of lock up are much less and if necessary in dice situation I use one of two fingered braking to restrict the power I put through the lever. The brake techniques using the squeezing process doesn't take any more time to apply the brakes once you get familiar with it. Best to try it out in a carpark to get the feel and practice the deliberate load the tyre then squeeze process.
Must admit I'm not a fan of single track roads, wherever they are, whatever the scenery, especially in the rain with numerous tourist pony and traps with an attitude, plus the horses calling cards. Thankfully we're all different. 😉👍 You mentioned it's €35 each but is that based on sharing? Can you have a pony and trap to yourself for €35? It seems the Triumph Rocket in America has had a brake recall in 2023 but that was for inefficient breaking not brake failure. You may have inadvertently boiled the rear brake fluid so you'll probably need to get the brake fluid replaced as it will boil sooner now. There are ways to check brake fluid with a chemical test strip, an optical refractometer and electronic brake fluid tester. It could also be a faulty master cylinder. I'm sure your friendly Triumph dealership will be only too pleased to book you in for a full brake system check. 💰💰💰😈
I think the 35 € is per person but if you wanted to hire the whole trap it would be about €140! I’m sure Triumph would happily take a look at the break issue but we’ll probably look elsewhere to check it out! 😀👍
Fabulous scenery and I agree one of Irelands greatest rides, the jaunting cart business is very lucrative to the locals ,they wish for the gap of dunloe to be just for them only :) sadly they can be ignorant and rude to visitors especially motorcyclists, you stopped at one point and not a thank you for your courtesy ....still that's life i suppose ,some people will grow old miserable but you have the right attitude as the irish would say "feck the begrudgers" ....safe travels guys and enjoy ..🥰
I believe the 2024 tiger 900 has what triumph call an enhanced braking system so the brakes are monitored to give just the right amount of front and rear brake, that i assume would help stop the scary rear brake failure you had 😱. Its a bit like the linked brakes on my super tenere, i only have to use the front brake leaver and it also applies the right amount of rear brake automatically, i think Brian's BMW has a similar system, ive never owned a GS so i could be wrong 🤷 ps love the channel keep it up guys

Thanks very much Adrian 🙏 we certainly loved riding the Gap but as you say, the Jaunting Cars drivers can be a little “off” sometimes! 👍😀
👍
Anyone else hear the On the Road adventure theme tune!
Which theme tune is that? 😀

Yes!
You could be right, but not a fan of the horse poo.😀👍
Thanks Malcolm - totally agree with you on the poo front! 😀👍
Thanks very much Kevin - good to have a view from someone with more technical nouse than us! 😂😀👍
