I think "eco mode" in a naturally aspirated vehicle (no boost) is a drive mode that forces you to take it easy on revs. I would argue that you could probably get the same MPG if you simply didn't rev out each gear while in sport/track mode.
I've never had any issues. For Scat Packs 392/6.4L Hemi: Maintaining regular oil & oil filter changes, every 6-months or 6K-miles (whichever occurs first) at a minimum is a must. Use correct oil and use the SRT Oil Filter. Dodge Dealers stock the SRT approved oil and SRT oil filter (best approach specially if under warranty). If you do a significant amount of aggressive driving, there's no harm in doing this more frequently...5-months/5K-miles or even 4-months/4K-miles. Challenger folks could always go with a 6-Speed manual Trans., as these vehicles do not have MDS. Anyone with the 8-speed Auto. Trans. (Challenger/Charger) could always have the MDS Delete Kit installed, specially if thinking about internal mods (Cam, drop-in forged pistons/rods, etc.).

I only use eco if I get caught driving around town in the rain or snow. Eco mode keeps you in 2nd gear from a stop, so you’re not spinning as easy on wet or snowy pavement.
I've got a 23 SP on order and will likely only use eco if getting caught in rain or snow (which I do not plan on driving in regularly if I can help it).

I noticed these hemi's don't like eco mode. You can put everything in street which is like eco...that only drops the gear down to 1 instead of 2 from a stop. I think eco does help with cooling as well...in keeping rpms low so you don't wear the engine faster. Other than that, you're only saving 1-2mpgs city. Maybe 3mpgs highway... It also comes down to how you drive! Great vid! Great topic!
Original Hemis 93 and 94 were designed for 180 thermostat and 10w-30 oils. Even the first SRT 6.1 . The EPA forced a 203 thermostat and thinner oils to burn off a tenth of emissions! So unlock PCM and install 180 thermostat and keep oil fresh and add Lucas stabilizer, you can't go 6k miles between oil changes with throttle wide open. Extended idling causes lifter wear. Under engine hours meter, the dealership can see averages on throttle position. Some people complain about mpg, service center says throttle open to 90% open at 60% of time. Just like the Blackbox records brake/throttle position and speed when airbags deployed.

I know the mds system causes issues, but I don't think driving in eco is what causes the problems. The internals are in the engine regardless of what mode you drive in. I just bought my scatpack two weeks ago and every time I start it it’s automatically already in Eco mode? Is there anyway I can change that? I’ve just been changing it to Sport mode by reading and watching vids most Scat drivers seem to use Sport.
To have it start without the eco mode put it in the auto mode and tap the eco button. The green leaf will go off and now on every start it will be in just auto, not auto/eco mode. If you want eco back on go to auto and tap on the eco.
My thought is everything is turning and wearing while the engine is running and lifter and cam should not be under any more or less strain in either mode . Now the piston and rings and crank and rod bearings on the cylinders that are deleted in economy mode are under less stress but are still turning and still wearing but I really don’t know how much difference there wearing compared to the working cylinders. I wouldn’t think there would be a noticeable difference.
I'm still trying to figure out which came first, the chicken or the egg? Anyways, I have never tried to figure out how to go to eco mode. However, I'm in auto mode about 50% of the time. Does it cut 4 cylinders in auto? Sorry for my ignorance, I just get in the car and drive. Auto mode when I start out, and then sport or track when it's time to step things up.

I run Sport mode 95% of the time, Track mode 4% of the time, and eco or auto 1% of the time. I'm spoiled, it takes too loon for the 8 speed to shift ijn auto or eco mode. I will use eco mode sometimes in the snow because it starts out in 2nd gear. 85,000 trouble free miles so far!
I drive eco when it's traffic and I cant turn up, I have a heavy foot. Nothing to do with affording gas. I figured the drive modes where situational 🤷🏾♂️ Hence the titles Track, Sport and Street.
Once again, great video. Personally I’m more of a street/sport type of driver. At the moment the car is my daily and I spend a good amount of time in traffic so occasionally I’ll drop it in eco mode.
Cool videos great knowledge, can you do a video on track mode and sport ? I herd sport gives you more throttle response like bubbles or something and I’ve herd ALOT of ppl say track really messes up your transmission. Is this true ? Plz make a video I think it would be a very ingesting subject.

I would never use eco mode just because I prefer power 24/7. I think the "hemi tick" is more from poor oil maintenance and leaving car in idle for long periods of time
@@NJ_Scat_Hemi_Orange Cranking the engine takes a tremendous amount of power from your battery, but as mentioned previously, the alternator recharges your battery while the engine runs. If you’re frequently going on short drives, though, the alternator might not have enough time to properly recharge your battery between pit stops - especially if you have an older battery. In the long run, frequent short trips can shorten your car battery’s lifespan
@@NJ_Scat_Hemi_Orange That's why I asked my first questions cause you talked about he "hemi tick" happening when you leave the car on for a long period of time, how long are we talking about?
The lifters have been revised for 2019+ model vehicles, not saying people still haven't had problems with those years and newer but just saying it just in case folks are hesitant on the engines itself. Good points on the heavy idling. Good thing is, people are paying attention a little bit more maintenance wise.
Crazy how maintenance is overlooked by so many people. Especially those who care so much about how it looks inside and out but don't care or are too cheap to pay for maintenance

This is such a debated topic with no real facts out there. MDS is on a lot of cars, just called different things and yes 5 those issues follow over there as well. Get a warranty, keep your car running
Also another thing I noticed⚠️if you have an after market exhaust (like for me I have corsa) don’t drive it in eco. It does this weird blowing noise right when the cylinders cut to 4. Not sure if anyone else has this issue

This my daily for work so It’s on eco mode but when am not I switch it to custom or sport really depends on the day and I never heard of the topic your talking about
I’ve never heard about the 4 cylinders firing in street. I know if you’re in street it switches to 6 cylinders to give you AWD. However, that’s only when the car senses it needs traction. Regardless it’s very rarely. Sport uses the same traction switch from RWD to AWD so unless you turn traction off you’re not forcing RWD anyway. Track even uses sport traction unless again it’s switched off.
With all you’ve mentioned I respect what you bought yours for but to be honest with having your car in eco or sport doesn’t or won’t affect your engines lifters. What does is your oil pressure making sure they are well lubricated. So the more you push your car aggressively the more likely that will or can happen. Has nothing to do at all with any mode you put your car in it’s not about saving gas it’s about saving the life of your engine. Do you research correctly before posting videos just so people will watch them.
Yeah this is true in a way but for someone who drives on the highway with eco mode for 2-3 years putting 10-15k miles on the high way it causes the 4 cylinders get more w&t when switching back to sport.

I Only use eco mode in rain & if my destination is 35 mins away all freeway
What if it’s just an auto with Eco turned off?
Great video bro love when you post💯🤙🏽
Appreciate you Fern!
Won’t lie I been driving in eco recently so I’m less tempted to gas it so I can get my mpg up 😭😮💨
I'm still trying to figure out which came first, the chicken or the egg? Anyways, I have never tried to figure out how to go to eco mode. However, I'm in auto mode about 50% of the time. Does it cut 4 cylinders in auto? Sorry for my ignorance, I just get in the car and drive. Auto mode when I start out, and then sport or track when it's time to step things up.
Lol you good man. Auto mode is pretty much street transmission, so yeah it does cut on 4 cylinder mode in auto.
how many mpg do you guys get on eco and on sport? i get like 13 on sport and 15 on eco
I get about 12-13 on sport. Never drove eco so wouldn’t know.
Bro make me understand this i have a 2021 Charger Scatpack widebody when i click on "SRT PAGE" i see 4 mods.
1. Track
2. Sport
3. Costum
4. Auto
So Which one of these Mods is Eco? Anyone explain it
Auto is eco I have a 2021 also
Auto is street unless you set auto to be eco. Go to drive modes, that’s where you’ll find eco
I have a stick shift scat pack n eco mode is not an option
I run Sport mode 95% of the time, Track mode 4% of the time, and eco or auto 1% of the time. I'm spoiled, it takes too loon for the 8 speed to shift ijn auto or eco mode. I will use eco mode sometimes in the snow because it starts out in 2nd gear. 85,000 trouble free miles so far!
I drive eco when it's traffic and I cant turn up, I have a heavy foot. Nothing to do with affording gas. I figured the drive modes where situational 🤷🏾♂️ Hence the titles Track, Sport and Street.
Wassup bro? Street mode only goes into 4cyl mode if light on the throttle. Also in street mode, if you put in manual, it stays in v8 mode💪💪
Appreciate the info Dam
@@louiexiii91 bro, I also recently found out that if you you push the drive mode button 2x it automatically puts it in custom mode
How long should you let it idle? Specially when you doing a cold start to let it warm up?
Just until the Rpm's drop from the initial warm up. That's what I do
I feel the same way, I only used Eco Mode once for a just a few minutes, Just to see if it worked.
Lmao same here
Once again, great video. Personally I’m more of a street/sport type of driver. At the moment the car is my daily and I spend a good amount of time in traffic so occasionally I’ll drop it in eco mode.
Appreciate it J! All about whatever works for you.
Cool videos great knowledge, can you do a video on track mode and sport ? I herd sport gives you more throttle response like bubbles or something and I’ve herd ALOT of ppl say track really messes up your transmission. Is this true ? Plz make a video I think it would be a very ingesting subject.
Appreciate it. I’ve actually already made several videos on both. You’ll find em in the catalog
make sure you get extended warranty when you blow 1 of these 392's up mopar charge you 14,000 parts and labor , i have blown 3 of these up in 2 years SHIT HAPPENS , and by the way the car was meticulously sevice at the dealer.Still bougjt another 1 fun cars
What’s the difference with Sport and Track mode? I have a Daytona RT i don’t think i have Track Mode.
Even harder shifts, no 8th gear, louder exhaust, tighter steering and suspension.
@@jizzyjake6783 That happens in sport mode as well
@@Murphys_Law9 yeah like that but even more haha
We use it all the time ,on chevys and Hemis ,, when you use the eco mode you use it in traffic , so you don’t floor it got me . is a bit exaggeration. It is safe as long as your foot is steady on the gas . Friends of mine have 6.4 with eco mode for over 5 years with no problem .
I would never use eco mode just because I prefer power 24/7. I think the "hemi tick" is more from poor oil maintenance and leaving car in idle for long periods of time
Doesnt it drain the battery fast if you keep turning it off on short trips as well?
@@skoluh drain battery? I don't get your question
@@skoluh shortening your battery's lifespan? Why is that even a concern? I'm confused...
@@NJ_Scat_Hemi_Orange That's why I asked my first questions cause you talked about he "hemi tick" happening when you leave the car on for a long period of time, how long are we talking about?
I got a 18 honda civic ex plus
I bought 2022 Scat pack W buddy 5608miles I already put $20,000 to size Just in case something goes wrong.
When you get it tuned your tuner can tune that mds out,,,I love my Scatty
what would you ask for
@@meniss7284 Huh? There is nothing to ask a good tuner will do it automatically,,especially if it's straight piped like mine is
okay cool, chill I’m still young trying to figure out what car I want
@@meniss7284 I'm cool as a fan what you mean chill?
Sports mode is NOT recommended for daily commute driving either. It's a no win win situation
Is Dodge going to refresh the charger widebodiesfor 2023?
The Xiii merch looking dope 🔥🔥🔥
Appreciate you Win!
Yo bro, first of all congrats on new benz.!! What's the best way to wash your scatpack? Should I take it to carwash or do handwash?
Handwash or touchless car wash if you care about the paint.
@@NJ_Scat_Hemi_Orange exactly, neglect will get you into situations that could have easily been prevented. You even got the maintenance guide in the Uconnect system itself and still people just don't care or ignore basic, common maintenance.
@@jggcsrt yup. Unfortunately many people get the car because they think they can afford the monthly payment... then they realize insurance, gas, maintenance. And they decide that maintenance is optional lol
@@NJ_Scat_Hemi_Orange hahaha true
@@NJ_Scat_Hemi_Orange i just ordered a 22 widebody scatpack . Some of us just know better sir. And mines will be in the garage until sat when , I'm off work. My 87 cutlass will be driven on sun. Some youtubers you can learn from and some just copying off the last video. These cars will be worth something in the near future. I see a lot of taking delivery and selling on here. It blows my mind on what people do for clicks and likes.
I should have my scat here in a few weeks and I will never be in eco mode (mds). 100% i bought the car to race it not pace it.
Have you got a hemi tick ?
I haven't
I very rarely use Eco Mode in my Scat Pack. 90% of the time it's in Sport. The couple long road trips I've taken, I'll set it to Eco for cruising on the highway. Around town though? Nope. It's pointless. I much prefer the finely tuned throttle response in Sport too, it's so good.
EDIT: I got the Carven R's installed on my 2019 Scat, best exhaust for the 6.4 hands down...
ruclips.net/video/kB5tnyx9yDw/видео.html
you should make a video on going over the performance pages 👍
Is auto mode the same as eco or street?
Auto mode is basically street mode
I use eco mode and mostly drive 50mph since speed limit is 35...no matter what you don't save gas I fill up every 3days maybe 4... I average 20mpg but that doesn't mean anything
Average 11.4 & fill up every 4days guess mpg really doesn’t mean anything
I may be new, hence the name "Novice_Lion", but I keep mine in Eco. More like it's the default setting since I found it some months ago. I'm going on 8 months with mine and (got it in June 2021) and even in Eco it can get up and go!
All about what works for you! Glad you’re enjoying it!
Only time I think about using eco mode is when it’s raining. But I still don’t. 😅
Where that AMG at tho ahahaha
Lmao it's waiting for me in my future bro!
It's not going to hurt nothing bro drive that thing lol
Y’all really gonna make me Fred flintstone the scat😂😂😂
Lmao
I just had mines turned off
Hemi tick is more of a 5.7 issue, scats don’t have to worry.
🤣 not true at all? Even hell cats get hemi ticks . Any vehicle with a hemi can get this problem car or truck.
@@ds-ld1kb as i said, it's more of a 5.7 issue. Rarely do you see it on scats or cats.
Rare is not a proper word 2 use. I know plenty of cat and scat owners with ticks. (Plenty). So not rare at all.
@@ds-ld1kb why you lyin
No need 2 lie bout something like that. I had a RT for 3 years then traded it for 2021 cat brand new not even 3 months in I had a tick had 2 go back 2 the dealership
You know what dosen't have shitty lifters , hellcats and hellcats redeye
Also bro what's the link for the Air intake? I have a 2021 Scat widebody does the one you have will fits in 2021 Scatpack widebody? I know yours is 2020.
the DOD tears it down slowly
I never use mds mode. Fuck I look like lol
This my daily for work so It’s on eco mode but when am not I switch it to custom or sport really depends on the day and I never heard of the topic your talking about
How does it drive on eco mode, I’m picking mine up from the dealership next week and it’s going to be my daily driver
It feels more smoothly when shifting gears and it’s not as fast as any other modes
I bought a hellcat and I drive eco lmaooo
Salute 🔥 💯 🔥
🤝🤝
My eco mode is called sport
Lol 100%
Why get the car if your gonna drive it like a Toyota 😂
I'm so confused now
Louie, you make good content, won’t knock you there but this is straight BULLSHIT and borderline CLICK BAIT…and you know it.
If there was any truth you’d have a lot more stories and content on YT about 392’s having this issue. Hell, there ain’t even a lot of 5.7’s with this issue. Stop it, you’re better that this.
Thanks for sharing your opinion.
Its not destroying mine, its destroying the next guys when i trade it in
