I saw Buddy Rich live ! ( And met him ) There will never be a Drummer as great as Buddy "And he was a very cool 😎 gentleman ! Film clips don't do Buddy justice. His drum sound live and his execution was impeccable.
This drum solo right here solidified him as one of the greatest of all times and then he did a trio drum solo with Dave weckl and Steve gadd that was just mind-blowing. And of course Steve and Dave are top 15 drummers of all time. I mean the fact that Vinnie had already been the drummer for Frank Zappa two different times was very telling that's all you needed to know because if you were in Frank's band you were on top of your game he only got the best of the best. the three great drummers from Zappa /Chad wackerman Terry Bozzio and Vinny Coliuta some of the most respected drummers out there. I would put Chad wackerman in my top 25 and I would put Terry in my top eight but I would put Vinny in my top five drummers of all time. I saw this and it solidified him as a top 5r drummer of all time for me Neil Peart Carl Palmer Billy Cobham bill bruford and Vinny Coliuta AKA The Walrus. He used to do walrus calls when he played for Zappa I was waiting for one in this show. Look at those old school black Evans heads he's using I wonder if they made the Onyx or Chrome heads back then. I use the black onyx heads on my Tom's and I absolutely adore them great low-end punch and perfect sustain. I believe this is when Vinny was using Yamaha drums if I'm not mistaken when he was with Frank he was using Sonor. But the best thing he could have ever done was going to Gretsch they make is good of a drum set as anybody out there I love their limited mahogany renown which I just purchased not too long ago I mean you can only get it in a four-piece and mahogany. But magnificent sounding wood for drums. t my older kit is the Pearl session Studio Classic I would rather have the session Studios standard but the Kapur is just as good sounding wood as mahogany when it's blended with Birch. But what sold me on buying the Gretsch kit was about a year ago I bought a Brooklyn standard Mike Johnstone snare and the snare itself has 42 strand which gives it a brilliant sound and you got the muffler in it which they should have never stopped using in snares man it beats the hell out of using hoop mufflers tape or jelly. it's a blended snare with Maple and Poplar. Yeah, I've never had a wood snare that has this clean and beautiful of a sound... the throw-off is just amazing. And the 302 engraved rims are about as good as you can get. This snare absolutely hold their value. I wanted to get a Brooklyn standard kit but it was just too much money so I ordered the four-piece renown limited mahogany 4-Piece. Thoroughly enjoy and pleased with it I would recommend the renown limited mahogany drum set to anyone. Vinny burning for buddy
So after his Hamlet monologue in the park to the wolves in the rain Withnail went down to his local town hall and smashed out a rather splendid drum solo.
Vinnie's gotten as close to Buddy as you can get. And he is a nice guy. But Buddy Rich is the greatest of all time, past, present, or future. I'll bet Vinnie would agree.
Vinnie absolutely Smoked this!!!! Buddy would have been proud.
One of the greatest Drummers on the face of this Earth !!!! !
And still had the charity to play with Zappa
Absolutely
In the galaxy!
oh hell yesssss
What about the inner earth, or Jupiter?
Saw Vinnie early in his career with Frank Zappa and Tom Scott. You knew you were seeing someone special. Great to see him still performing
I use to think nobody can swing a big band like Buddy. Mabey I was wrong. Well done Vinnie!
I love how Vinnie is so down-to-earth but a total Ninja on drums.
Right? He’s got both grit and finesse and he so artfully combines the two. Some cats almost have too much chops and can sound robotic. Not Vinnie.
Maestro total...!!! Gracias.!

So tight. So crisp. Yet so fluid. And playing traditional grip at THAT! Vinnie is The MAN!
There is simply no way to play a really good solo without doing it with traditional grip most of the young kids don't understand that!
Definitely one of the greats, superb drummer 👌
ありがとうございました
Astonishing......Vinnie....Excellent band....Killer arrangement.......a whirlwind from start to finish
Wow!....Outstanding!!
I see this video on VHS in '93 at my teacher's house in Milan, Vinnie at the TOP!!!
Same here, 1992-1993, but my teacher’s house was in New Jersey.
Bravoooooo
The time you could
Go on repeating
Bonham thousands
Of times are gone
임팩트가 엄청나😮❤🎉

The Master!!
Nice sweet cymbal sound. Playing doesnt get any better than this. Buddy Gene and that little guy on traps would love this.
Un fenomeno...
BAD-ASS DRUMMER!!!
Sensacional!!!!
Love his work on Joes Garage.
Rip. BUDDY...ONE BAD ASS.
Damn!!!!!!!!!
1:46 I think he was hoping the pianist would have come in a little sooner… then gave them the dummy cue of death with that crash.
Ejecución impecable.
Oh yeah .. another “Bad Man “ on there them Drums !!!

About as obscure a reference as you can get! I loved it!
👍
As good as he is and he is great and the orchestra is great there was only one Buddy Rich, When you watch it you just don't know how to explain it!
The only problem is my parents would respect it.
I’ll take Vinnie over Buddy any day of the week. Class vs. Crass.
At this concert, I'd take Weckl for finesse and Dennis for out and out crazy drumming.
Most impressive, not getting the stick butt ends caught in the suit jacket sleeves.
😂that happened to me at a gig once, shot my ride stick into the audience 😅
VINNIE THATS ALL YOU NEED
Dave Weckl! That’s all you need
Прилично!
Fastest hands I have ever seen.
Have you ever seen his old PASIC video? He achieves near 300bpm single strokes with insane power in one part

Just in case you haven't, about 1:20 into the clip. It's just nuts
That's what she said.
Great performance, but I may dare say Marvin ‘Smitty’ Smith found another gear on the B for B session
Dopo Wekl è sicuramente il più grande.

Ему, наверно, жарко в костюме?!😕
J’apprends que Buddy Rich jouait de la double pedale 🙄
I love Vinnie's playing, but not for classic jazz or big band. Too much rock influence.
Then it gets tight as farts around 4:15
Work out Vinnie
Too much gain on the drums.
The 80's
Great drummer but those are worst sounding drums I’ve ever heard. It sounds like a helicopter trying to take off. 😂
the toms sounds flat and lifeless
@@DabsDad Yes, i agree, no disrespect to Vinnie but as a percussionist myself, i love the sound of Dave Weckl’s drums. They sound amazing
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
