  • Got high arches? Experiencing pain at the outer aspect of your knee? In this video we discuss orthotic adjustments and demonstrate how to stabilize an orthotic device for a large lateral (outside) arch gap. This client experienced strong IT band discomfort both at the outside of his knee, as well as into his hip. We added a lateral arch stabilizer to his orthotic to counteract his excessive supination and hence rebalanced his foot to reduce stress on his iliotibial band.

Very helpful information. It is also possible that this type of high arch leads to lower back pain? I have a higher and ITB issue, but I also have a lower back pain. I'm wondering if they're all connected? Thanks for your help

Is the lower back pain one sided or right across the lower back? When do you notice it? Does walking and standing aggravate it?

I was diagnosed with following: pes cavus right foot. Rx: BILAT. “UBCL” Orthotic.
What does the “UBCL” mean? I am in a lot of pain on outside of right foot. Will the orthotic STOP the pain?

Hi Michael: UCBL stands for University of California Berkeley Laboratory, which is where these inserts were first invented. These orthoses are designed to provide a deep heel cup with an extrinsic (external) post to keep the device stable. They are designed to improve the stability of the foot. Depending on where you experience pain this device may be appropriate for you, especially if your peroneal tendons are flaring up.
