Matt knows once a Cardinal, always a Cardinal, much respect to him for doing this video. I wish more athletes would do this kind of thing when leaving a city, or retiring around town.
I was born and raised in St. Louis, I've been a Cardinal fan my whole life and I'm 66. You are a class act Matt. Thank you for all the good times. You will always be a Cardinal. I love you Brother!
I am really sorry for this goodbye. I will miss you as a Cardinal….although once a Cardinal always a Cardinal. I respect the way he showed up to play through hard times and good. I wish Matt Carpenter all the best and will always love him as a Cardinal.
Matt Carpenter, every time you came to bat I would say "You know, I love this kid". EVERYBODY knew you were my favorite Cardinal. I shall miss you in the birds on bat uniform. Thank you so very much for the years I got to watch you give your all to the birds.
We watched nearly every game you played for 11 years. We are retired to Florida, and were faithful MLB subscribers. You gave us countless thrills and smiles! You are world class "Class" Love you back!
Matt you represented not only the birds on the bat but St. Louis with absolute class and pride. You gave us and our city incredible moments; your battles with Kershaw, your MVP like seasons of 2013 and 2018, etc. Most of all though, through these last few tough years, my admiration and respect for you grew even greater. Regardless of your Struggles, and being made a bench player, you never complained about that. You did your best to fill the role for the best for the team. And that exemplifies you as a player and person
Classy all the way to the end. Watching Carpenter play the game the Cardinal way for so many years brought so much joy to so many Cardinals fans. He will be missed. I hope he will return to wear the Birds on the Bat again someday, as part of the coaching staff. He's displayed great leadership as a player, and unbelievable poise these last couple of years, in the face of criticism. Much of it, coming from a small, but very vocal minority of fair weather fans, was beyond the pale. Those folks do not represent the core, nor the majority of the fans in Cardinals Nation. The vast majority of us never forgot all his accomplishments, the greatness, the hustle, and the class he displayed year after year, for so long. He will ways be a great Cardinal. He will return soon to put on his well deserved red jacket. Until then, I wish him success wherever he goes and in whatever he does. God bless you, Matt Carpenter. It's been a blessing and a privilege to follow your career, and witness the way you played the game. The Cardinal way.
I have the Matt Carpenter salsa poster in my house and it is NEVER coming down!!!! It was awesome to see the boys get on base and mimic eating Chips and salsa! I remember in 2019 when we were playing AZ and we’re in like the 16th inning and Matt delivered! Thank you, Matt! You will be greatly missed!
One of my favorite Cards! I will miss that smooth left handed swing. Thank you for all the years of success. We love you and will miss you...all our very best as you take on your next endeavor!
Yours is my very 1st Cardinals jersey I bought. I bought your salsa. Saw you in Springfield when you were coming off the IL. My young daughter was sadly disappointed when you walked off to the field after signing autographs..... she was two kids away from you when you went back out to warm up for the game. My family has been supportive of you and we appreciate all you gave to the team. Enjoy your retirement, family, and & new opportunities. You will be missed. ❤️❤️❤️ J-C-J
Matt Carpenter is one of those rare individuals that stayed true to himself and his Christian values despite fame and a hefty income. He will be missed in St. Louis and a treasure to any fan base fortunate enough to be wherever he lands.
We will always love you too. Thank you for giving us the thrills and pure enjoyment to our beloved Cardinals Nation. Pat yourself on the back Matt. You are a true class act. ⚾️❤
Matty Slasa!!! Thank you for all the memories and for always playing with 110%. You are the epitome of what baseball is all about. I will forever be a fan no matter where you go (except the cubs lol) and will be routing for you every step of the way. Thank you for that splendid 2018 season where you put the team on your back and the 2013 season where I became a true fan. Busch's home plate will miss you just as much as all your fans will miss the beard! From the Neron family here in Connecticut we love and will miss you! Stay safe and exceptional!
Matt, you earned the privilege to wear the birds on the bats. It was a privilege watching you ware the birds on the bats. Without a doubt, you represented the Cardinals nation to the best of your ability. This ability not only made us proud but you should be proud as well. Matt, you have gratitude from all of Cardinals Nation you have well earned it. You will be missed but not forgotten. What we need from you now is your knowledge of this great game to teach the young players the Cardinals way. St Louis fans love and will miss you, Matt Carpenter. PS. it is hell to get old. you are without a doubt one of my Cardinal's favorites.
Thank you Matt Carpenter for everything you did 😌🥺. You are a Legend to the City of St Louis. We wish you a happy rest of your life. For all the Memories you have us your always a Cardinal ❤️❤️❤️😭😭😭
Thank you for providing a lot of excitement, Matt; both at the plate and in the field. This video is another confirmation you are a class-act and genuine human being. As a life-long Cardinals fan, I know you've contributed greatly to the winning tradition Cardinals fans have enjoyed during your time wearing the Birds-on-the-Bat. I'm thankful and wish you all the best.
No batting gloves!! Just dirt!! I'll miss the approach at the plate!! Always exciting watching your at bats!! You definitely gave 110%!! Thank you Matt Carpenter!! Good luck in the future!! Red Birds Forever!! Nothing but love brother!!
Class act for a class franchise and Baseba city. I know people will talk Yankees,Red Soxs, Cubs, Dodgers but as a FanBase StLouis is Baseball city. Even the opposing players are treated like they would at their own ball parks. StLouis FanBase gave Red Sox standing ovation after they swept the Cardinals for first WS in long time. No other fan base in NY,Chicago,BOSTON,la would of done this and this is why St Louis is baseba city USA
Thank you right back Matt. Thanks for all the good times and joyous moments. The last day went with a whimper, and you deserved a much better send off than that. We LOVE you, Hope to see you soon and your ovations return.
I thought the same. Shortened game with a rain out. Matt deserved what Holliday, another just tremendous person and an all time Cardinal great, received, his last few games. Damn the legendary day at Wrigley in 2018, not just one but several clutch epic clutch at bats off Kershaw, always willing to play where the team needed you, etc. Etc.
Man I was really rooting for you hard these last couple of years, father time is undefeated, for some sooner than others. Thanks for all you did, you were great on and off the field.
He hit 3 more RBI's today, after getting 7 yesterday and 2 homeruns. 13 homeruns in his first month (new Yankee record). The man is hotter than an acetylene torch right now.
I appreciate what he did for the Cardinals. Too bad he didn’t retire at the end of the 2018 season. His 13 pitch at bat against Clayton Kershaw in game 6 of the 2013 NLCS is one of my all time favorite memories……and I have been a Cardinal fan for years ver 60:years. Unfortunately, newer Cardinals fans won’t remember how good he was. I wish him much happiness.
But so many WILL remember Matt and how classy he is. No matter what his average was, we all still cheered at Busch every time he came up to bat. -. Cardinal Nation loves you Matt!!! Thank you for the memories!!
I watch that at-bat every time the Cardinals face the Dodgers to remember how clutch the organization has been against the Dodgers! Carpenter will always be one of my favorite Cardinals to ever watch
I remember most of Carpenter’s big moments. Few remember he hit 55 doubles and got 199 hits one season. He cared so much about hit 200 that he went on the longest hitless streak of his career at the time. But after the last three years, he was done… Except maybe he isn’t?!? I can’t believe it but he’s tearing it up for the Yankees right now!! I hope it continues. Just give him one more good season. We’d all love that.
Thank you, Matt, for being a true Cardinal. And, thank you for giving Cardinal Nation so many great memories of watching Number 13 step up to the plate. We'll miss you.
I love how professional he is and how sincere and heartfilled it all was. I also love his comeback he's having, it sucks it's not on STL but I like how both parties are supportive no matter what. Class acts being class acts. Thanks for everything Matt, and I hope your recent foot injury heals smoothly and quickly
I have been a Cardinal fan all my life, as were my parents. As my mother's sole caregiver in the last years of her life, she got immense joy watching all the games and following all the players. After she died, my passion for many things, including baseball, died for a few years so, I missed a few things, including Matt Carpenter's departure. I couldn't believe it! He always was such a big part of the Cardinals - at least when I last knew them. I, for one, wish him all the best and it looks like he got it, because, there's only one team that can, historically, outshine the Cardinals and that's the Yankees. Way to go Matt!
You have a lot to be proud of. Just like all the great Cardinals, you will be missed, loved, admired and respected by Cardinal fans forever. Thanks for all the memories you gave us that we will never forget. On my sandlot you’ll always have a spot in my lineup. Thanks Matt
Carp should have never played in the big leagues. But by hard work and shear determination he made his dreams come true. In 150 yrs most to play in the big show were born with 90% of what it takes. Carp did it by looking the ball into the glove, drills, weights, eating right, studying the greats, and just plain heart. Folks, if your boy dreams of playing in the Bigs handcuff him to a chair watching Matt Carpenter.
As a Cubs fan, I'll never forget how he DESTROYED us in a home series at Wrigley. It seemed like every time he came to bat, he hit a homer. Much respect, #13. ~ Cubbie Fan
Cardinal nation will never be able to forget you Matt Carpenter! Through ups and downs you showed the cardinal way. I'll never forget being at ballpark village on opening day, watching you walk it off against the cubbies! You are first class!
I have loved this team my whole life, and Matt Carpenter has been a part of it for more than half of that time. You’re a Cardinal forever, Matt, and St. Louis loves you. ❤️
Matt, you came into Smoothie King in St Peters years ago and were so nice to my son and his friend who worked there. They weren't star struck by you because you didn't require that. They thought of you as just a really nice guy playing for the Cardinals, and they looked forward to seeing you again. Thanks for leaving great memories here!!
Well, well, well… Carpenter is now a Yankee and still a class act. I’m happy for you, Matt! I wish things had worked out for you to stay in STL. But, I’m happy for your success in NY! You deserve it!! If your turn of events doesn’t cause FO to look at Jeff Albert, I don’t think there’s any hope for the Cards! We miss you!
Great video. I always loved Matt. In his prime he was a double hitting machine. I wonder if he and his family live in St. Louis or nearby? If anyone knows pleas tell the rest of us. He has the heart of a Cardinal and will be greatly missed.
Matt Carpenter really seems to be a good guy. In my opinion the defensive shift really hurt him. I myself hate the shift! It’s ruining baseball. And for those who say just hit the ball the other way, it’s not that easy at all. Hitting a baseball is hard to do! That’s just my two cents thought.
As a Yankee fan this put a big lump in my throat. Class Act. Thank you Matt from all baseball fans.
We just got him how does that feel !!!!
Class Act is now a Yankee and all's good. He's a great veteran addition to the Bronx Bombers. A good man on and off the field.
now hes bombin in NY
As a Yankee fan he is becoming the best hitter on the team lol this guy's amazing and has an all time mustache
As a St. Louis guy, he was beloved because he is a good guy.
Matt knows once a Cardinal, always a Cardinal, much respect to him for doing this video. I wish more athletes would do this kind of thing when leaving a city, or retiring around town.
Almost made me cry 😭 Thank you Carp 4 ever a Cardinal ❤️
I was born and raised in St. Louis, I've been a Cardinal fan my whole life and I'm 66. You are a class act Matt. Thank you for all the good times. You will always be a Cardinal. I love you Brother!
I'm not a cards fan but I will always respect what he did for that team one of the most down to earth human beings you will ever see.
I am really sorry for this goodbye. I will miss you as a Cardinal….although once a Cardinal always a Cardinal. I respect the way he showed up to play through hard times and good. I wish Matt Carpenter all the best and will always love him as a Cardinal.

I don't think anyone expects a player to retire after they just had arguably their best season.

Matty Carp is one of my all-time favorites. I’m glad he’s back.
He did give great memories for the team.. This year, his prime ended.
He was my favorite player I'm crying
Class act👍
We all still love you Matt.
Great video. I always loved Matt. In his prime he was a double hitting machine. I wonder if he and his family live in St. Louis or nearby? If anyone knows pleas tell the rest of us. He has the heart of a Cardinal and will be greatly missed.
Carpenter was a baller, much respect!
Welcome to the Yankees, Matty!
and now New York loves you Matt. Let's go win that World Series!
Beautiful statement Matt you will forever be part of Cardinal nation.
Oh it's beautiful
Thank you Matt, we love you! #FOREVERAREDBIRD!!!!!!!
You’ll be remembered as a Cardinals great up there with Hornsby, Dean, Musial, Gibson and Smith. We’ll miss you and good luck in your future career.
Love ya matt
I Want You Back Matt. Please Come Back.
Once a Cardinal, always a Cardinal. Thank you, Matt.
Love ya Matt Dave and Sue Moore
