I think the point of the fish joke is that it's a play on words. You picture a "tank" as being a fish tank, but when one asks about driving it, you realize that it's a military "tank." Paraprosdokian.
+Shawn Ravenfire Trace said he loves those puns. I love how the fact that the two fish were having a conversation at all seemed to not bother either of them, but being able to drive was absurd.
This just occurred to me. There are two guys sitting by a fire, roasting a rabbit over it. Suddenly, there's a rustle in the bushes around them. "It's a lion!" says one. "It's a tiger!" says the other. And out of the bushes jumps a little bunny. The two guys start to laugh. Then one says, "Wait a minute! Is this story a comedy or a horror?" "What's the difference?" says the other. "Well if this is a comedy, there's a rustle in the bushes, we're scared, then a little rabbit jumps out and we laugh." "And if it's horror?" "Then as soon as we start laughing, a lion jumps out of the bushes on the other side and eats us both!" "I still don't get the difference," says the second guy. "Perspective!" the bunny yells. "You're roasting my daddy!"
Great video! The Benign Violation Theory says humor occurs when and only when two conditions apply at the same moment: 1) a situation is a violation, and 2) it is benign. Another way to say this is the "if laughing at this is wrong, why does it feel so right?" theory. The Benign Violation was developed by Peter McGraw. He has an awesome TEDx Talk on this topic!
The incongruity theory basically says laughter is arcing caused by short-circuiting schemas. You can also see this in the violation theory, which is also "short-circuiting" the schemas.
+Josh Horsman Yeah I was about to say this, the core of the joke was the context of tank. In his defense though, his system 2 about the joke didn't kick in because he was busy talking. His answer was my intuitive answer and then I jumped to the "tank" context part which he didn't have the luxury to do.
I still don't understand what makes swearing so funny. Like when telling a joke usually the swear word itself being the punchline makes it absolutely hilarious. Take the twitter account about flamingos and they're all charismatic about learning facts about flamingos, and them the only tweet is "flamingos are fucking stupid." It's priceless 😂 Another one I don't get is why dark humor is so funny
There's a saying that goes beauty is in the eye of the beholder I think it also applies to funny things. Maybe things can be funny depending on how someone perceives something such as scenario or an event etc. Maybe funny is in the perception or perspective of a person base on how he or she relates the funny things base on life experiences. For example things can be funny sometimes because it may resemble some scenes or situation that a person has already seen or heard before but perhaps it was mix up with a little bit of teasing or mocking to make it considerably funny. Please let me know what you think about my point of view my baby.
i will always remember that two fish is at the tank 1 fish A said hey do you know how to drive this thing, but i think no cuz fish B could only drive panzer tank
The heroine video was great satire that crossed the line. In order to mock Buzzfeed, they needed to cross the line because that was the next logical step over the edge that Buzzfeed has found itself at. The problem with the video isn't the subject matter. It's the flawless acting of the participants that is the problem. They come off as dead serious. There's no indication that they're faking it.
Hunter gatherer constantly in jeopardy of being attacked by a predator, sitting down, hearing something rustling in the bushes, a rabbit emerges instead of a saber toothed tiger.
George Carlin narrowed it down really well, with the help of Richard Bandler who modelled how he constructed his jokes. Every joke needs an exaggeration, something to be way out of proportion.
A man walked into a bar so he raised it. You guys make funny boring. Still, it's a great reference point for my project regarding humor. I hope to finish it before I die. Ha!
a. Cannot imagine any genuinely funny person in the past 30 years such as Jerry Seinfeld, Larry David, Brian Regan, Dave Atell, Kathleen Madigan, Ron White, Jim Gaffigan, going to a stand-up comedy teacher to learn the underpinnings of how to be funny. For that teacher, probably the reverse happened. She wasn't funny but appreciated those who were, so studied and analyzed them to put their craft into a teaching program to teach others. That's not being funny. b. Over analyzed, but a few good points are made.
The difference between Dnews and Testtube plus is Trace takes too much time to explain something than DNews can explain in less than 4mins, but same thought. Try to show some photo clips, videos, or animation to have your viewers attention until video ends.
+Lenra Nirac I'd really like that too, but I think they don't add pictures because this channel is kind of targeted to people who are just listening rather than watching. Because they take so long to explain these topics, I just play this channel in the background while doing other things. It would be nice if they added pictures to capture the audience's attention.
this is a pod cast style video as stated in the very beginning of almost every episode. And this is to inform you more on the subject since they break it down. I love how trace does real research and names his references
Misogynist' WORST NIGHTMARE lol I have the same problem. Are you subscribed to like 70 science channels and watch all the new videos everyday? (I do that)
When I first saw the "People Try Heroine" video, I was in both groups that Matt describes. I knew they were making fun of BuzzFeed's increasingly dumb videos, and I saw the humor in it, but I didn't think it was that funny. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I watched it, and it's better than 72.5% of BuzzFeed's videos (yes, I did the math). At the same time though, I thought the heroine video went overboard. I wasn't offended in the slightest, but I knew they were gonna get a lot of hate for it. I think that channel should have started with something different; not milder, just different, and later put up the heroine video. I love that you guys are doing a week on humor/comedy. As an aspiring comic, I think these videos, and their sources could really help me out. I'm trying to go to as many open-mics as I can, and I also plan on creating a Kick Starter campaign for a new crowd sourcing website. It'll be called Start Kicker (I think it'll be really successful).
This host... god whats the point of having guests if youre just gonna puke noise at their face in the middle of all their sentences? Honestly if that were me id have got up and walked the fuck out. Cant stand when people do that.
Yousef sweetie please give a feedback to my comment. If you're concerned about my development then you will give me a feedback that will help me to improve.
Why, cause he seems marginally intelligent when he speaks about a certain topic? You know intelligence isn't inversely proportional to how funny someone is, right? Its usually the opposite, actually.
I think the point of the fish joke is that it's a play on words. You picture a "tank" as being a fish tank, but when one asks about driving it, you realize that it's a military "tank." Paraprosdokian.

+Matt Johnson LOL. didn't think of it that way. great observation.
+Shawn Ravenfire Thats what I thought the joke was about. Matt Lieberman probably didn't realize that was the joke though. lololol
+Shawn Ravenfire The joke does work if you say fish tank but he said bowl so it got lost on me.
Samanatha Pateman .....was your comment an example of the "incongruity theory"?
Funny: Old lady parking in an alleyway when she missed the parking garage by a couple hundred feet.
Not funny: Amy Schumer.
This just occurred to me.

"A buff oily Bernie Sanders" alright!
It's only funny until he touches you.
@@johnhelhoski6579 lol
Fun show, nice to see you here Matt.

I don't think he got the 2 fish in a tank joke... comedian my ass!
+Josh Horsman Yeah I was about to say this, the core of the joke was the context of tank.
In his defense though, his system 2 about the joke didn't kick in because he was busy talking.

This is ironically unironically the most unfunny comment section I've ever read through
its more funny at x2 speed.
try at 0.25x speed😂
Stoppppppp. 😂😂😂😂😂

for the motion designer/ editor: make a lower third.
i will always remember that two fish is at the tank 1 fish A said hey do you know how to drive this thing, but i think no cuz fish B could only drive panzer tank
There's no link to the video
Watching this after last night's Bernie Sanders joke on the Daily Show really hits home.
Are there books on this

0.5x speed makes this so fucking funny
Sheldon Cooper needs to see this.
Out of everyone on sourcefed, matt isn't my first choice in funny. Hello Trace!
Watching a professional comedian misread a joke about fish bowls vs military tanks as fish driving being the punchline was y i k e s
I think the fish joke was more about the double meaning of tank than about the fish driving.
It was great to see matt on this, the heroin sketch was great.
Hunter gatherer constantly in jeopardy of being attacked by a predator, sitting down, hearing something rustling in the bushes, a rabbit emerges instead of a saber toothed tiger.
all comedy derives from pain
10:10 he says science and math when in reality it's engineering (plus math is a science)
Engineering is a math and science

Laughter is the utter stupidity of human intelligence.
Ironic...isn't it?
Sad analysis.
Humor: the quick left, or bathos

I actually prefer this because I can play it in the background while doing homework without being interrupted by changing the video every 4 minutes.
Misogynist' WORST NIGHTMARE lol I have the same problem. Are you subscribed to like 70 science channels and watch all the new videos everyday? (I do that)
Wanna know what makes something funny? Put this video in 2.0 speed and wait for the guy with the white shirt talk

i cant see the link of the heroin videi
Liebs! I'm seeing you all over the place today! This is so exciting. :D
I'm yet to watch this but fuuuucking hell Matt Lieberman is the comedian. Btw I'm a huge sourcefed fan
When he compared it to "math", I stopped right there to take him serious.
Who else spent this entire video thinking of FAMILY GUY?
I looked up Amy Schumer in this is the first video that popped up. Hmm, I wonder if the RUclips algorithm is trying to tell Amy fan something.
Memes have never been better before watching this video
The host is so annoying he wont let the guy finish a sentence
Too soon!?!
fish can drive submersibles if they felt like it.
Trace 😑

Then the dogs have diarrhoea
let's get to cloning soon.
spaghettification _
wanna understand incongruity humor, just listen to welcome to nightvale. plenty of humor throughout.
I woke up this morning feeling weird...I felt happy.
Make a video about the spectrum of funny and how it links with intelligence, I'm sure you've cringed at something other people find funny.
This host... god whats the point of having guests if youre just gonna puke noise at their face in the middle of all their sentences?
Honestly if that were me id have got up and walked the fuck out. Cant stand when people do that.
I'm the funniest person here...
lol that was hilarious
MATT!
Oh hi Matt!
men logic words keep dawning on me we dont know nothing.
(pre-viewing) This is a pretty long video considering the fact that you ended last episode with "what makes something funny? We don't really know."

*i wish i was kevin hart*
there's no way that this guy's actually funny
Why, cause he seems marginally intelligent when he speaks about a certain topic?
You know intelligence isn't inversely proportional to how funny someone is, right? Its usually the opposite, actually.
DEEZ NUTZZ HAAA
As long as it's not about : women, stereotypes, race and rape It's funny and not problematic. That's how comedy works FACT
I hate rape jokes. They always seem so forced.
