    If Finnish police wants to interrupt in something, there usually is a good reason for it. If you play along and have done nothing seriously stupid, you should be just fine. In this case, yes, maybe the police overreacted, but the Estonian guy seemed to be quite aggressive too. And no, I don't think this was about the guy being Estonian - just that he was acting aggressively.

    (Continued)
    - The police apparently continued to talk with him in the middle of the fight. He could have given up at any time.
    - No bystanders were injured in the incident.
    - The man was taken into custody within minutes and was not injured (with the exception of the bruises caused by the batons).
    - Even if the man got his lawyer, the correct place to settle things out is not the market place, but the police station or the court house.
    Just my 2 cents.

    American cops take note: I think these officers did an amazing job on how they handled this situation!!! I was born and raised in USA where unfortunately here in Michigan and other states this man would probably not be alive still as he likely would have been shot to death but only after being beaten to a bloody pulp and or tortured beforehand. I have family members in Finland and Sweden, and after watching this, my utmost respect goes to these 4 Finland police officers!!!...You completely lead by example on proper law enforcement techniques!!!!!!

    This guy wanted to sell mushrooms from the back of his van. To do that, you need a permit. The market officials tried to get him to buy one, but he refused and behaved aggressively towards them, so they called the police. The police told him the same thing; buy the permit or leave. He refused again, aggressively, and then things got nasty. A policeman lost a tooth and needed some stitches. The man was sentenced to 10 month suspended, 1400€ damages to the policeman + medical bills.

  • @heinilg
    @heinilg 2 года назад +6

    The Estonian was a "vendor" without a permit and without paying the market fee. The same rules apply in Estonia as in Finland. Unlicensed vendors are thrown out.
    Eestlane oli "müüja" ilma loata ja turumaksu maksmata. Eestis kehtivad samad reeglid kui Soomes. Litsentsita müüjad visatakse välja.
    Eestiläinen oli "myyjänä" ilman lupaa ja torimaksua. Samat säännöt on Eestissäkin kuin Suomessakin. Luvattomat myyjät heitetään ulos.

    The policemen here did the absolutely right thing. Violent people who refuse to abide by the law should be taken into custody like this.
    And 4 against 1 is completely justified when you're trying to take the opponent down safely and avoid injury, both to yourself and to the target. It has nothing to do with being "pussies" and everything to do with being professional: nobody got hurt and the objective was achieved.
    But that guy in the red shirt should have stayed out of it.

    For anyone who didn't know: this clip, thus this guy is or at least was a considerable meme in Estonia. Part of a bigger trend of Estonians especially working in Finland etc getting themselves into all kinds of crazy stuff there.
    We call(ed) them "Kalevipojad", Kalevipoeg being the main character of out national epic of the same name, who amongst other things also went to Finland to get a sword from the famous Finnish smith Ilmarine (Estonian variant of the Finnish Ilmarinen from "Kalevala") and ended up murdering the smith's son with said sword during a drunken argument (a brief overview, the story is more elaborate and important for later developments). To be clear, the term "Kalevipojad" is applied to Estonians (mostly men) working in Finland in general, some of them have just gained a reputation...

    My point was that this guy probably know laws and how to do things in Finland, if he came to sell stuff. And if you actually watch carefully, the policemen waited for him to calm down, and didnt engage at the very start of this situation. Whereas if this would be american police, they would surely be agressive at the very start. Also this estonian man was trained to sustain tear gas and all sorts of careful weapons of police. They took him down because he was starting to be a threat for others.

    For everyone wondering why the cops didn't use their guns is that in Finland, you need a big reason to even take the gun in your hand and if you don't need to use it quickly you need a permission to shoot. + In Finland you might get bigger sentence than the attacker for defending yourself. Some people say in Nordic countries criminals live better than the citizens.

    Lot of rumours circulating around this one; that there's a long wait for a permit so he couldn't simply show up and buy one anyway (but maybe the officials wanted to resolve the issue that way, at least this once?); that he was taking up someone else's place who did have a permit (maybe the red shirt guy?); that he tried to get a permit earlier but was refused because he's Estonian; that he's ex-police/special forces; that he was trying to expose some sort of mushroom scam at the market.

    Any Eastern European who grew up during the Commie years is not particularly afraid of the baton.

  •  12 лет назад +2

    I don't know the background to the events shown in this video, but this is what I'm seeing:
    - The man is clearly behaving aggressively even when the police is only talking to him.
    - Normally OC should be enough to neutralize an aggressive suspect. In this case it was not.
    - They never tried to hit him in the head or in the face with the baton. They were aiming for his legs and arms.
    - Both policemen carried firearms, but they never even reached for them.

  • @JohnSmith-hq6fl
    @JohnSmith-hq6fl 11 месяцев назад

    Why did they stop him anyway? If he was being that aggressive, I think it is reasonable to make sure he doesnt harm anybody else around.

      Well.
      From what I've heard, it's easier for Estonians to understand Finnish than it is for Finnish people to understand Estonian.

      @@Talvekuningas to be more precise, the general understanding is that Finns and Estonians both start speaking the other's langage when drunk.

    I don't know was this any better though...4 police officers try to hit his feet with baton just to avoid severe injuries of the troublemaker...1 hit to head and he would have been in ground ready to be ''transferred'' elsewhere.

    • @AnttiVi
      @AnttiVi Год назад +1

      yes, it's exactly the point. They are trying to avoid injuries to the troublemaker as long as he isn't a clear threat to other people. That's how the police works in Finland and that's how it should be!

    @TheZagunator. It is easy for one man's arrest had to be three policeman. and the police feared him. In estonia for example , the police would resolved the situation in seconds.

    @X8PolloLocoX8 Jos ei herra lähde suosiolla paikalta josta joku muu maksanut vetämään noiden taikatattien kanssa kun ei kerta ole lupaa niin miksi ei poliisi saisi käydä käsiksi? Ja vaikka ei nyt tekisikään mieli ottaa puheeksi meksikoa (kotimaatasi?), niin on siellä kuitenkin vähän rankemmat otteet poliiseilla.

    problem was that finland sellers wasnt like estonian guy cheep price, and they was so angry about that, so finland sellers call police. And police was coming to tell that you have to leave because others sellers start crying. PS! that guy have been trained in estonian police school. And his point was to show how communism is working in Helsinki(everyone must be same and if you have cheaper price you go jail) ;)
