Thanks for that. I remember wearing out the grooves of this LP when I was in high school, but never really understood (or researched) who blue eyes was. That it was a spy from a novel matches the thought behind the lyrics and now I'm happy not to be guessing anymore. Get to hear it from the composer himself - what a great band.
Even in 2019, Pete still can't let go of Lifehouse
So true. I still love him.
would it have been any good?
from what I've seen the story looked a bit far fetched
true dat
InstaBlaster.
Finally, I found the meaning of Behind Blue Eyes
I wouldnt be so sure about that.. I think its about something entirely different!

I too think it's about babies, young baby boys.
I love the shorts Roger
Tennis anyone??
He's a style icon
You'd have to be called Roger to wear them.
Asking Pete Townsend to name three songs is so ridiculous that it shows you how great this guy is.
Well? Stop w the click bait. Roger said he had a dog w blue eyes.
It's about the perception of blonde hair blue-eyed white surfer boys born with a silver spoon, and having society assume that every white male life is perfect, so if you're a white male and you're struggling, you have to "bite back hard on your anger", and you are not allowed to complain because nobody wants to hear about your struggle... obviously Pete can't say that if he still wants a career
What's the third one??
Let my love open the door.... a Townshend solo song
I have no idea what Pete said. The explanation is so fragmented. Perhaps he was hiding behind "art" since the most natural explanation is that he was of course writing about himself.
arse hole
@@Ian24s Why being so rude?
Of course he was writing about himself.. personally i think it has something to do with what happened to him a good few years ago now in the press.. check it out.
Well, characters often draw upon the thoughts and experiences of their authors, so it can easily be both.
If I had a pound for every time he mentions 'art school' in an interview...
I thought Behind Blue Eyes was about the Vietnam war?
To me this song speaks of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. ...
Seriously? You must be young, because that seems to be the explanation for everything these days. I'm not saying this to be mean, but I'm from the generation of around that time, when not everything was explained by a "disorder". I always thought it was about a street kid who got in to a lot of fights and hid behind a tough exterior but inside he was really vulnerable. Pete's songs were often written about young guys who felt alienated from the "norm", they were rebels who were tormented. Hardly think that's narcissism.
@@cosmicmauve i from the “younger” generation but i have always thought about the song like you, i guess i have a an old soul and a poetic mind
It is, in a way.

What you describe here is essentially narcissistic personality disorder. . Extremely Vulnerable and insecure individuals that desperately hide their vulnerability / a huge black hole in their soul devoid of empathy or love tor any person but replaced by their relentless obsessive and futile desire to be loved and adored by all but never being able to return the sentiment or truly feel love. A ttruly sad and heartbreaking disorder in my opinion
Rudolf....
Its about hitlers super race lol
I always thought it encapsulated the egocentric, liberal, white-western mentality.
