Portland, JAMAICA in the Building!!!
I saw the car yesterday at my local dealer. I think it's really great looking car in real life, and the interior quality/design is mind-blowing ! Seems range of 500 km is possible. Still a bit too long (and expensive) for me but I would choose this anytime against a Model S. Would like it better with a hatchback. I would take the hyper screen but the standard interior is already awesome.
From the side, it looks like a very nice modern successor to the 2010 Honda Civic sedan.
😂 yep. And it 100k more.
I completely agree!!!!😮😮😮😮
And frontlights looks just😖😫
I’m having trouble liking the new design language of Mercedes. The W212 E-class AMG was my favorite model.
@@mitafoaj same
The base screen setup works and looks much better in my opinion than the hyperscreen setup.
Totally
Me too!

I like these wheels. Always have been a fan of those 80s aerofans on rally and race cars. These remind me of those.
Thomas, I love your methodical and detailed presentation format... best reviews in the business, thank you.
Highly appreciated! Please recommend 😎
I love one of your favorite artificial sounds that remind me of the vehicle from Star Wars. I love it! I like in and outside design of EQE. I appreciated you doing an in-depth review of driving experiences.
😎👌
don't need all those artificial sounds, find them unnecessary
I like the light-colored interior better, and the base screen setup also.
Completely agree on the HyperScreen not being necessary. When you drive alone the HyperScreen seems like a lot and a possible cause of glare maybe? And when driving with people I very much doubt my friends or anyone really would actually use that screen over their own Cellphone where you have your own contacts, apps, etc.
👌

But, you can’t show off to your friends. The hyperscreen looks hella futuristic
@@BigBoss7777777 Absolutely lol. But for 8.5k Euros seems like a lot just to show off. I hope they release something similar in the future but the hyperscreen portion consists of Cluster + center console, idk honestly what to do with the passenger side to integrate all and make it look pretty, but the passenger screen is just not it imo.
+1. .. Agreed.. The standard screen wins the day.. The Hyperscreen is functionally (driver) challenged, its that wide.
Totally agree on your thoughts about interior, Thomas. I hope car manufacturers will consider your (and many drivers’) opinion about big screens and real buttons.
👍
I own my EQS now for 2 months (comming from a E-class diesel before).
From experience, I don't mind the touch-buttons (and one-click buttons) at all. It might take a few days of getting used to, but they work fine.
Same goes for the seat-positioning buttons. I liked the previous style, but I equally appreciate the current more modern approach.
Really nice review as usual and a really nice car. Perhaps in a few years... Need to keep my EQC a few years.
thanks Thomas !
Fantastic video. Really in-depth 👍🏼
Thanks please share 😇
excellent detailed review. very impressed. thank you
👏👏👏
Definitely the base screen…..why do I need a 50inch screen in my car?? It’s just a distraction
I have been waiting for this review if this car gets to the U S before my current lease is up I might consider this car excellent review 👍🏾👍🏾
Get the i7. Will be way better
base screen setup just looks like a luxury yacht with that wood texture and all ambient lighting,.. more elegant, luxury, more mercedes like actually,.. hyper screen one is more like a cheap, old, sci-fi movie setup... great review by the way, so much title and chapter, great work again, thanks...
👌
As always; GREAT video!
Thanks 🙏
MB engineers did a great job with the synthetic sounds. Using a rhythmic filter to give a slightly percussive sound is much nicer on the ears than those sustained tones which don't give the ear a break. I am convinced that the goal of these sounds is to mask subtle higher frequency noises from the motor and inverter.
Great video, very informative.
😎👌
right turns are free - 50EURO/month for unlimited left turns 😎👍
Ahahhaha yes
I think that if you log into a "Mercedes Me" account & customise the drive (and comfort, music, screen icons etc) settings then these are in fact saved after turning off and turning on again (+ logging in again to your Mercedes driver profile).
At least this is the case in the EQS system as demonstrated by Kyle from Out of Spec Reviews in his video about EQS settings & menus where he sets up a new "driver profile" in the car. The log-in can then be configured, in the intial set-up process, for finger print as well as facial recognition so it's automated in future.
Kyle already had a Mercedes account because he owns a Mercedes vehicle and he was able to use that account, via the app in his phone, to set up his preferred settings in an EQS driver profile even on a borrowed EQS. Kyle selects "creep funtion" to always be off, for example, at 15:52. I didn't see any regen settings to override the default.
ruclips.net/video/vCb_Lcb6qQM/видео.html
It's possible that certain driving settings like the regen always do revert to default by EU regulations Thomas, Kyle was in a US car, so who knows what are the regional differences. But it was very interesting to see that experience for a new owner, it's the first time I've seen a motoring journalist bother to demonstrate this with a borrowed press car.
I prefer the base navigation, think the hyper screen is overkill. Are you able to get the 4 wheel drive with the base navigation?
Awesome car! 👍 Love it! ❤
Thank God, finally a new charging-socket-cover for DC in the EQE from July 2023 on.
Such a pity that your video doesn't show it!
Here it is:
(my video from the IAA Munich)
Thomas, the updated X7 review and now this video, excellent job. I would like this in a 2 door.
🙏🙏
Hi Thomas love and greetings from Toronto Canada I must say what a consistency u have to make such nice videos I applaud u for that I don't like electric cars at all be it tesla ,bmw ,merc or even Porsche bcoz electric cars like human without soul but I still watched the entire video just bcoz of u my friend
Best greetings!
I noticed the same strange idiocy when I sat in an R-class for the first time not long ago.. The seats were narrow! I expected something really nice and comfortable to sit in... the car is 1,92m wide! My old w210 that is 1,80m has far more relaxing seating up front. You can spread your knees to the sides if you want.. You can do that in a w123 or w124 too... not to mention a w126.. When I tried doing that in the R-class I hit the door handle with the window buttons imediately!... And then I noticed how narrow the seats were... Why??? The car i 1,92m wide! There was a big wide consol in the middle instead.... for no reason. What a toal waste of space.. for something that could have been really comfy and spacious seating..
Not many things left that are still the MB I grew up with in the 80's that's for sure.
So it’s not only me
I'm considering an R-Class, since modern wagons are crazy expensive and hard to get with the options you'd expect from a new car. R-Class long wheelbase seems the best travel car for someone who tries to NOT buy a van for practicality. I'll have to pay attention on the test drive :) Reviewers call the R-Class super comfy though, at least the ones I've checked.
@@autogefuehl It's definitely not only you. I faced the same in the Polestar2, where the middle console blocked my right knee so it start hurting after a while. The cars are getting more and more automatic driving features, but setting relaxed seems to to be in the focus.
This was in the end the main reason why we decided against the Polestar2.
@@Cloxxki Looks like peoples references have shiftet. But sure.. it is comfy regarding suspension and isolation. And seating in the back of the LWB version. Tons of room in that regard. Great loading capacity with last row folded. But look at how small the front seats are... completely unnecessarily cramped from side to side compared to its size. Compare that to an older S-class. Or even a w210. I thought in my naivety that the R must be immensely roomy up front then with its 1,92... But no. Was the opposite.
Depends on your references of course. But being used to older MB:s I was expecting something really excessive. But even my w124 feels better... Despite the original version being only 1,74... Still has wider seats and leg room than the R.
Totally agree, all the new models have less space. Even in the rear the w210 is bigger than the W214, W206, V295 etc....i don't really understand why.
You can actually open the bonnet...
The release is in the regular position, it just has a screw on cover over it(MB don't want you to know that...)
Flush door handles look nice, but less functional than normal ones. The same with the #capacitivecurse buttons. I wish manufacturers would pay more attention to ergonomics in new designs. Otherwise, a great car. I wonder if there will be an estate version in the future? That would be fantastic! Congratulations on 600k subscribers! 😊👏
Thanks Robin 😊
I don't mind the aero wheel inserts, but I hate the matte paint. Keep up the crusade against capacitive buttons!
Another excellent review, Thomas. I was totally shocked when you said that Mercedes did not have heat pumps! What were they thinking??
Thanks 🙏 please recommend our channel 😊
Indeed they have to change that
As always a very nice presentation.
I already mentioned it in one of your previous presentations: the boot capacity of this car is an E-class unworthy.
The space under the boot for your charging cable is a concept error: very nice if you need it when the boot is full of luggage and it is raining.
This car needs further development.
For the time being, I'll stick with my E-43
highly appreciated! Please keep joining and recommend our channel :-)
why is the 3rd stop light so low, should have put it on the top of the rear window to be mroe estetic and visible
Thomas do you recall any motor whine sound in the EQE?
Beautiful design 😊
+1.. Screen Choice? .. The "Standard screen" would be my choice,,,,, That is providing a solution could be found for the remaining console space which is BLACK; maybe a 3M satin film overlay?.. A black shiny finger-print-billboard interior material is nuts. .. The uber-wide Hyper-screen is sexy Oh yeah,, however, it's the wide-spaced information layout ,,,, that's a visual challenge for me. .. Oh yeah the widescreen Hyperdash display is super sexy. I'll give you that.
P.S., The recent EQE, and EQS products are impressive making a traditional ICE buyer pause. .. I'll stay put with the 2023 RS6 Kombi build which is ordered. .. Not ready for an EV in cold Vail, Colorado just yet ...
i like this design that we há e now on EQS model this AMG graphite Magnum looks amazing i think the wheels are okay 👍 the aerodinâmics are good with the translucent wheels covers with the black Trim yes i like that this car is amazing i wish i could drive One unfortunately i can't afford it but very Nice review Thomas
Obrigado!
Best review. As I am 186cm tall and was considering to buy EQE 350, I definitely decided not to buy it after this review. My daily routine is around 150km so seat comfort is one of the top priority for me.
Thank you
Most welcome!
So what did you end up going for ?
Just take the high-end seating option, called multi-kontur-sitz. The wide then is adjustible and significant wider. Especially for tall people this is recommended in my opinion.
@@uob5 You mean ‘7U2’ option?
@@gk8617 code 7U2 are the standard comfort seats, what you need is code 399 multicontour seats
Sorry I forgot to say something u were saying u got 6 hundred thousand subscribers now but that's not fair u deserve way way more than that I don't want to compare u with anyone but still look mat Watson of carwow had over 1 million of subscribers before pandemic and look how many he has more than 6 millions I know mostly bcoz of drag races he does in his chennel I hope u get more this year best wishes from Toronto Canada
Thanks m8! Please recommend 🤗
Well, i am subscribed to both channels and to be fair Carwow is more than just drag races, reviews are humorous and fun to watch too. Still, Thomas does the best job with his reviews, they are far more detailed. When i want to have fun, i watch carwow, when i want to actually understand everything about a new car without having to test drive, i watch this channel.
Personally I love the new mazda cx60 looks beautiful can't wait for your full review on this amazing piece of machinery
As one grows up one targets play toys. I had Chevrolets SS Hondas ( several loved them all) BMW motorcycles (among others) and now, B4 I move on out of this world I need to find a new way to get one of this out of an American franchise from MB. And I will. I love ❤️ this thing.
I'd be curious to see the base EQE version tested against the base Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo. They seem similrly priced?
The Taycan tech is a few years old, but it will likely win a race over 1000 km at highway speeds. Cargo space in the Porsche is probably better and more practical, as they did think to put in a frunk and offer a more practical body style for the back.
At least in Germany the EQE is way cheaper then the Taycan - wayyyy cheaper not comparable, 70k vs 100k
No heat pump? Isn’t that a bit cheap, considering both the EQC and EQA comes with one? I guess an E class driver always has a heated garage ready at his disposal…
With the news that Mercedes is discontinuing the EQE and EQS platform lines; (I'm guessing they're switching to BMW's strategy? Where i5 and serie are same platform, and i7 and serie?) I wonder if it's safe to buy into an EQE model or if we should wait for the next cycle where there would be that iE or whatever they call it
I really like how it looks with one color on two tone, definitely nicer proportions than EQS.
It is disappointing that they didn't utilize the interior space so well, a Model 3 has the same size interior even though it is a much smaller car.
Overall I think it is a solid EV from Mercedes-Benz.
Sorry, but this is just wrong. The Tesla Model 3's interior is nowhere near as big as the EQE's interior, especially with respect to the leg room in the rear.
Model 3 itself makes horrible use of space. Imagine they'd just made it a hatchback.
In that price segment, Estate cars are very popular. People spend thousands extra over a sedan. Some brands discontinued their sedans. Tesla buyers just don't hold Tesla to very high standards so they don't need to ever make what people want. So you lose the screen behind the wheel, you can't even GET a steering wheel on some, and definitely not any estate cars. No smaller batteries or 2WD on 3 out of 4 cars.
►Also check out our extensive EV comparison episode: ruclips.net/video/dEQubj8fETE/видео.html
@@Cloxxki the model y is a hatchback lol
@@frohesneues6732 the Model 3 has a more open atmosphere, and in the rear there is actually a little more space.
The EQE directly competes with Mod S, but the Model S has more space than EQS! + Tesla has a frunk and even better HEPA filter.
Mercedes-Benz has the best winds efficiency, but at a huge cost for interior space.
Hi Tomas, when you drive with the Hyperscreen, do you feel like there is too much going on and the larges screens are a distraction? I have not experienced them yet.
Yes. That’s why I advised to stick with the base set up I also showed in the video
kommt noch ein Review vom EQE 43 AMG?
It looks so much better with this color scheme
thank you
Recuperation…and distronic.
Two nerdy questions: 1: do you know if the brake lights light up if the car (not you hitting the brakes) slows down due to the distronic function?
2. Does the distronic function yield recuperation when slowing down?
It should use recuperation the same way. Brake lights flash at a certian torque of deceleration!
When will this be available in the U.S.A.?
Coming back here after 1 year to decide if I want one. On my list are the EQE 43AMG, 500E, maybe an EQS, Audi GT, BMW i5 - also ruled by their momentary leasing price per month. Anybody here got 1st hand experience and an opinion? Thank you
PS: the 500E comes now standard with the Hyperscreen, no extra anymore
Matte gray is pretty awesome.
Glad you enjoy our sunroof 🙌
My wife and myself love your reviews Thomas. I like this car but i am not to keen on the exterior design.
Thanks and best greetings!!
Ashamed that there is no heat pump at this stage! But, you done a very good video on the EQE. Please keep on doing your great job!
Thanks for following!
Definitely better looking than the EQS, but not better than an S Class!
The one button operation doesn't seem like a problem to me, in fact, it's probably way better to clean.
Cool 😎 💥
I m waiting for the T model for electric to replace my E class all terrain! ;)
Large screens are fine, but until MB and others sort out high frequency controls that can be navigated ‘blind’ (and, seriously, they could do worse than starting with controls designed for visually impaired people, which need similar principles) then I’m holding onto my money. This must be as big an issue as passive and active safety features. It would be helpful too if IIHS, Euroncap, tested for ability to operate high frequency controls whilst looking out of windscreen. Every single reviewer has been making this point for years - Thomas, can you ask them for us why they still think they know better than their customers?!
Can't wait for the EQE AMG 53 and 63...... Greetings from Barcelona !!
Gracias!

I liked BMW i4 screen solution
After seeing the refreshed BMW x7 and everything BMW is doing rn the EQ models are starting to not look so bad

26:15 LOL, a few minutes ago I was going to put in the comments that it sounded like the racepods in Star Wars ! Clearly I was not the only one hearing it. Don't like that sound though as it sounds like something is vibrating.
😁😎
Can’t wait to finally see one at a Mercedes’ dealer (10 Oct 2022).
For me the mercedes eqe and eqs are just to plane at design like tesla. At the interior are just using cheap tricks to make it cool and fancy (ambient lighting at every surface of the car and too many screens) while the rivals offer more both in luxury and design. At leat this is what I think
whaaat? No heatpump? or did i hear wrong?
If not i wonder what the decision at the board meeting was.... lets exclude the northen hemisphere market...sound like a good idea(!)
I have heatpump in my Q4 e50 and at -15 the car gets warm in 2 minutes without draining the battery
As always nice review Thomas :)
[edit] found this:
Like its big brother EQS, the EQE uses a multi-circuit thermal management system that uses waste heat from propulsion because an electric motor also generates heat loss. Using the waste heat from propulsion, a temperature increase of up to 5 degrees can be achieved. Later, the EQE will also be equipped with a heat pump to provide even more efficient and faster heating of the interior.
Yep we ll see if they upgrad heat pump later….
I have no clue why Mercedes is carrying out with this EQ models as fully designed EV car. The boot space of an EQE is 430 liters.....For a long distance executive care a minimum of 500 liters is required. They were on a good wave with design but since EQS and EQE, I am not convinced that this will pay out. Pity, I was looking for the change my current car to Mercedes again but they are much more a compromise than others for the time being and looked further somewhere else.
regarding your question: i'd personally deactivae the fake sound, but i would surely use a multi-tone lighting setup.
Why do Mercedes and Tesla love soap in a dish designs? Lotus has shown with the Eletre that there are alternatives using porosity to achieve a low cD.
What's strange about Mercedes EVs: They still need Service every 30000 km or once a year, and the service costs are only a little lower compared to the ICE-Versions. From the Service-Center point of view this is fine, but it is totally unnecessary expensive for the customer.
🧐
@@autogefuehl Maybe this is a topic you could put on your question list for future partnered drives like you had before with EQS and EQE with representatives of Mercedes, as OPD is hopefully kind of sorted out now ;). BMW has already since 2013 a 2 year unlimited km service interval for the I3, and one service is well below 300,- Euros. With the EQS you are in the range of 900,- Euros every 30000 km. For drivers which drive many kms this can sum up. E.g. with my I3 i have service every 100000 km in two years. With the EQS you had to make 3 Services with the same mileage, 2700,- Euros and 9 times of what the BMW costs for service. EVs really don't wear so much, you can hardly explain why you need service this often with premium quality built cars like EQS and EQE. And BMW is not alone with their strategy, VW ID.x also need regular service only every two years with unlimited kms. As the cars these days have sensors for everything they can report anyway if something needs to be serviced, no need for fixed km-based service-intervals.
It's probably a scam to get you to go back to the dealer. The only thing that I can think of for them to "service" is install any large SW updates, check brakes, suspension and battery.
That traditional trunk is showing us that the wagon version is on the way.
Portland, JAMAICA in the Building!!!
When will you test the EQS350?
We can do that
Since if want bought EQE high tech EV car, must get Hyperscreen to match it, if want normal infotainment screen, better just get C300
does hyperscreen reflect sun rays on your eyes on sunny days
Yes
I would appreciate your opinion comparing the EQC to the EQE. Your EQE review, with the new EV design, does not highlight any great advances over the EQC and seating/quality may be slightly lower.... I did not see any seat cooling option either.
Range is double now, thats the thing. Other than that the EQC is cool
My preference, minimal ambient lights, no propulsion sounds--permanently off, no hyperscreen.
an other great exhaustive review. I would however say the rear seats are properly bad. I can't strech my legs, they don't touch the seat and you are folded in half. Overall seats are nowhere near a mid 90ies benz.
totally agree on the seating position at the front as well, and the front seats. Too slim, not soft enough
What’s the Audi equivalent to this ?
Honestly the exterior design for me is disappointing. I feel it is a step back in previous decade. The interior, ok, but all these led screens with blue light irritate the eyesight. I use yellow filter on my glasses for night driving.
Thomas, you are evolving year after year, great seeing it. My comment is to think about using the british word "boot" and not trunk. Boot is much more elegant than US trunk.
Other discussion is that modern headlight led lights are 6000K color, i.e. blueish. The past xenon lights at 4300K were smoother for night driving, but no one mentioning it.
Huh? More elegant in what way? Clearly you know what ‘trunk’ means in a non-automotive sense, right? In both British and American a English. Silliness.
i really dont like that trend of pairing cupholders and electronic device storage together..... liquid and electronics are not friends....
hyperscreen BS is terrible, three displays under one glass slab... what a "dream". 19:15 oh i never thought i would like that display...wait, only with gloss black? OMG 🙄 i really dont like any of new MB dashboards.... it might be a great car, i just dont like from visual and usability aspect. however, great review as always 👍👏
#hyperscreenBS #glossblackBS #glossblackcapacitysteeringwheelBS 🤪
If the software and screen responsiveness was like a Tesla this car would be almost perfect I love the Mercedes quality
The Software is actually better in some departments than Teslas, at least same level. Responsiveness, similar, maybe a microsecond slower. At least compared to a model 3, dont know if there is a difference in Model 3 and Model S software.
@@rj-yb4ik responsiveness is definitely not close to teslas I do believe the software is better than other brands but Tesla responsiveness is like an iPad and software it’s not complicated like the one in the Mercedes
@@cf7792 i have two model 3 in my company and had the amg eqe 43 three days over the last weekend for testing. i had them side by side. Believe me, mercedes software is absolutly up there with teslas, navigation is even better even though a little bit slower. Overall mercedes software is easier to use cause its more logical than teslas. As i said responsiveness is a little bit better in a tesla, only on the nav-map though, rest works as fast as tesla. Still i dont know about a model S, i drove one for a few minutes but never used the software, but afaik its the same as in the model 3.
Great review! But if you allow some criticism i would like for you to not simply believe what the marketing guys from Mercedes tell you but instead question their words a little. Mainly on 2 things.
The EQE only getting the smaller 90 kwh battery is not because of the shorter wheel base compared to the EQS. The BMW iX has an even shorter wheelbase than the EQE but has a much bigger 105 kwh battery, same goes for the Model S with a shorter wheelbase and a 100kwh battery as well as the Lucid air with a shorter wheelbase and a foot garage (like Porsche Taycan) and 88 kwh or no foot garage and an even bigger 112 kwh battery. Mercedes could have easily fitted the bigger 107 kwh battery in the EQE but they didn't because it would have beaten the EQS (their flagship) in range and efficiency.
The EQE having no frunk is because its build in the same manufacturing plant like the combustion E-class & C-lass, not because of the HEPA filter or because Mercedes didn't want a frunk. Therefore although it has its own EV platform, there are still some compromises as it shares an assembly line with ICE models. This is why it can not have a frunk and why its so heavy, as its forced to use the same manufacturing mechanism and material mix like the ICE models it shares an assembly line with. The same applies to the Mercedes EQS sharing a manufacturing plant with the combustion S-class. To truly get the full potential out of an EV platform, EV's need their very own manufacturing plant.
Thanks! Yeah I didnt assume the smaller battery is necessary, indeed they could have made it bigger. Interesting aspect with the frunk!
Sorry, but neither of those 2 observations make a lot of sense to me, and they appear pure speculation.

HEPA filters usually come standard in $20,000 cars. Optional in this one.
Bullshit. You're just wrong.
Love the visuals , design etc and I praise the whole concept however like an AMG 63 owner the lack of engine noise and these effects instead are ridiculous to be honest - also way to many lights in the cockpit etc hope these can be switched off but OMG no engine noise , truly awful and not only Mercedes but the whole EV concept , feels like a step back not forward !
Side profile reminds me very much of the 1997 Mazda 323 Astina
Should be called the Eew q e
❤️
In my opinion I think implementing the screen in the cars mostly bad and this one in Mercedes very bad. Its seem like the goal is put screens every where. Problem with screens the fact that it go old fast this maybe ok in cheaper car but expensive one no. I think the best implementation is in Bentley Continental, they keep the timeless design for analog gauge and give you screen whenever you feel it’s outdated you hide it and enjoy the beautiful analog gauge or simple elegant wood.
Alpine grey looks very good. Odd side profile though. And those doorhandles are a bad mistake. Just like they have been for Tesla. Mercedes should know better.
Love everything other than the colour. Not a fan of the matt finish in any colour.
Nice motor.
I hate that the charging port just has a flimsy looking cover that hangs on a plastic string over the DC part. This is a Mercedes. They could've at least put that part on a nice little click open flap like some mainstream manufacturers do. Mercedes just irritates me these days. They have zero attention to detail and quality anymore.
So… you’re not planning to buy one?
@@pacmanc8103 It depends on the quality and feel of the car. I have a 2015 E350 Bluetec. At that time their cars still had good material and build quality although cost cutting was already evident. I test drove the new W213 E Class and was disappointed with the material and build quality. The car just feels weaker and less substantial. I then test drove the new W206 C Class thinking they must've improved. It was actually far worse than I thought. Cost cutting was even more evident. It has enough hard scratchy plastics to make a Hyundai i10 proud. And at the price of my test drive unit, it didn't even have basic features now standard in cars half the price like navigation and blind spot monitoring. The engine didn't feel special either with the entire lineup being 2 litre 4 cylinder only. Nothing about it felt special or like a Mercedes. My conclusion is that Mercedes will never see me again as a customer. It's not just about cheap covers over charging ports. But cost cutting measures and oversights like that doesn't leave a good impression for the rest of the car and things you don't see. You charge often and they could've at least put some effort into that aspect.
No heat pump is a big miss
