    I was a little worried when I saw this video because I just ordered this laptop 2 days ago but these are all problems I can deal with since I know what I paid for.
    1. I dont mind the screen since Im mostly gaming and not editor of some sorts
    2. I will mostly be pluged in 90% of the time
    3. Im not goimg to throw my laptop across the room so as long as im careful, I can deal with the plastic build lol
    Unfortunately I had to order this off amazon and not best buy because best buy site just doesn't want to act normal so I had to pay around $70 extra.Your reviews on this laptop were amazing and I was able to use the display model and I was just so amazed so im excited for when it arrives. Thank you so much for reviewing this and benchmarking everything.
    On a side note, I will be getting more memory, A NVME for the second slot but I heard its smaller so I cant just get the typical samsung 970 evo? or do I need something else. I dont mind if I need to use a normal ssd if I cant find it. Once again TY for the videos.

    • @lunaria_stg
      @lunaria_stg 3 года назад +10

      The second problem was the single channel RAM, not the battery. And as someone who is stuck on 8GB of RAM, trust me, you definitely want more RAM.

    • @JUSTKOZ
      @JUSTKOZ 3 года назад +6

      @@lunaria_stg Ahh my bad, school work messing with me lol and yeah I do plan on adding another 8 gig but not sure if they sell it just like that. I might just get a 16g kit and try to sell the 8 gig.

    • @JarrodsLaptops
      @JarrodsLaptops  3 года назад +24

      Yeah fair enough, I think that's the important thing - everything has compromises and nothing is perfect, you just need to be aware of potential problems and decide what you can deal with. Yeah the 2nd M.2 slot is shorter, so you'll have to shop for the shorter options.

    There's two ways to make the screen look better from my experience with the 2018 version, but should work for all as long as you have the newest version of amd software installed. 1 use the AMD color settings, 2 change color and gamma settings in windows settings, easy fix, as for the response time not much can be done, however playing with amd settings can help speed it up. So far the nitro 5 has been very good to me and reliable, with 12 gigs currently installed i can play gta 5 at 60 fps with very high settings, that's using the ryzen 5 2500 because mines the 2018 version, but that amd can always be upgraded to a newer amd, but it still works fine. With a 1 tb ssd that I installed, its very quick to start up and load games. Now I will say this, its a fingerprint magnet, but easy to clean using a microfiber cloth. Battery still does good i can watch RUclips for about 4.5 hours without recharging, but thats on the 2018 battery, but not bad at all. Its underrated for what it is and can be easily souped-up if need be. Also I love they way acer integrated the bios, most settings like the key board light timer and start up settings can be fixed using the bios. For my speakers they are kickbutt speakers, the laptop came with a Dolby audio system and built in software to change the quality of the speakers, love the speakers, idk if the newer ones have as good speakers. The 2018 version is also built pretty solid, I have traveled a lot with this laptop and it has held up well, just hope the newer versions are doing the same for people.

    I ordered version of nitro 5 online. It looked great, but when I wanted to use it... Big mistake, half of keyboard was not working. I checked and saw it's a big problems with Acers. Keyboard cable moves and you're supossed to break whole computer apart. Of course I refused to do that on new computer and send it back... They refused my complaint and i'm getting it back fixed. I'm just not too happy about it, cause when you get laptop, it should work if you pay full price. I never had to fix something new.

    Got this laptop on sale refurbished from Acer's eBay store for $430. Great value for that price. Biggest issue I've had with it that no reviewers have mentioned is the keyboard. The switches feel decent enough, but sometimes a pressed key doesn't actually register properly, so you'll constantly be missing letters while typing, causing a lot of typos. I guess for gaming this isn't a huge issue, but if you plan on using it for productivity as well it's something to keep in mind.

  • @napolisquared

    Yeah, word of warning, since my last comment here 4 months ago: the keyboard has continued to deteriorate, we have lost several more buttons. So now this thing is basically an $800 paper weight. Searching the internet for replacement keyboards yields only ebay vendors from china with seller ratings of 60% for $90. Additionally, it is a non-trivial job to replace, taking an experienced tech 1-1.5 hours to replace.

I had a more expensive(800 dollar) laptop which had a terrible TN panel(horrible viewing angles, extremely pale colors), a dual core CPU, 6-7 hours of battery life, and a 950m GPU, not a desktop level GPU capable of gaming at ultra settings for most titles. • @2Based23

      I have the Asus Tuf FX505du which is the same with the A15 but from 2019 and I was really torn betwen the TUF and The NItro 5 but ended up with choosing the TUF because from what ive seen its a little sturdier than the tNitro 5 , not a whole lot but significantly the Nitro 5 just bends too much in my opinion and ive got a friend that just bought the A 15 and its even sturdier than mine so strenghtwise definitly the A15 takes the cake, the thermals on the A15 dont seem a problerm to me they just look like normal gaming laptop thermals so dont really get what all the fuss is about there are laprops ( especially with intel ) that get hotter, the screen is good no problems there good for gaming ,watching movies etc so no complaints there but if you decide to buy either I would strongly suggest to get it with a 1660 super or 1660 ti, it just makes a world of difference when it comes to playing games I have a 1660 ti and play everything at max no problem, the difference between the 1650 and the 1660ti is 2-3 years of use that you can squeeze out of you laptop and the difference in price is not that big in my opinion so definitly go for the 1660 ti its the sweet spot for gpu's right now . But yeah I would definitly choose the Tuf A 15 for its sturdier chassis, I was a little skeptica at first when seeing the ord TUF ( tough ) and thought it was just some marketing thing but no it really is sturdier than other laptops at the same price.

    • @amaurytoloza1511
      @amaurytoloza1511 3 года назад +1

      Screen quality is mediocre in both, even if you get 144hz in the TUF A15, the response times are so slow, that it basically behaves like a 60Hz panel. As Jarrod said, that is the biggest corner they cut to reduce the price. Low brightness in both, low colour accuracy, low contrast ratio, low response time. Some people don't care about this, but if you've had a decent panel before, and move to a mediocre panel, you will tell the difference straight away. everything else makes little difference to the "user experience", relatively speaking that is.

    • @2Based23
      @2Based23 3 года назад

      @@amaurytoloza1511 I really can't tell the difference between a screen with fast vs low response time and neither can Jarrod and he works with the damn things all day, i'm not saying it doesn't matter all i'm saying is that its not that big a deal since most people play for fun and not competitivly anyway.Concerning contrast and color accuracy I really think they are fine for gaming ,watching movies ,again most people don't do designer work or video and photo editing if they did I doubt they would be looking for nitro 5 with a gtx 1650.

    These type of videos make people think the Nitro 5 is now a laptop not worth buying.. they just see the title and then judge it.
    It's simple you get what you pay for, if you want something better then you pay more..
    Lower end laptops are not going to perform like a more expensive version, also the laptop you illustrate here is almost 18 months old.. you get what you pay for
    Did you think this model would perform as good as the top end version, because that's how you come across.

      agreed, I don't understand how can he call these 3 big issues given how cheap this laptop is, and RAM is also easily upgradeable anyway. And about build quality - only gonna be an issue if you drop of frequently lol. Been using only plastic laptop for 14 years now and never had any issues with that. The screen also isn't so terrible, we get much worse TN panels in cheapest office-oriented laptops, which are terrible in comparison even to this display.
