    Paddy consadine is overwhelmingly talented. His line delivery when Alicent gives him the gift is so good. “That’s very kind, Lady Alicent. Very kind.” It must be nice to have someone do something nice for you for no reason than just being nice. 😢😢 Also I love when Daemon takes offense at Corlys talking smack about his bro. Just like real life, “I will speak of my brother as I wish. You will not.” Fuck yes. Family and blood first.

    Yeah the "confrontation" between Rhaenyra and Daemon shows you their relationship and how fond Daemon is of Rhaenyra... You can see her little smile at Daemon and at herself once he gives her back the egg and "backs off"
    Because the reality is that even with Rhaenyra's dragon, that wasn't an equal fight; she came out on top in that exchange because Daemon allowed her to do so, because Daemon likes her and he was just looking for attention; the king's attention, but he got the next best thing in Rhaenyra showing up... Caraxes is over twice the size of Syrax and far meaner in temperament (very much like Daemon himself), not to mention that he has seen some combat; in turn, Syrax is basically a show pony used only to ride around... That's without takin into consideration Daemon's own fighting skills and experiences, which Rhaenyra doesn't have at all; and Daemon's superior numbers when it comes to men at arms there.

      Caraxes and Syrax are greeting and flirting like crazy when they meet at Dragonstone, not beginning hostilities or reacting to the tension between their riders (they might be sensing what's underneath that tension).

      @Alewaxon Год назад +2

      @@funnylilgalreacts Otto certainly has a high interest in keeping Daemon away from Viserys, for many reasons, some relatively good and some self serving reasons... But let's not forget that it is Daemon's own actions that have created the rift in his relationship with his brother, not just Otto
      At the end of the day Daemon has fucked up many times and Viserys just had enough... Even this episode, what did Daemon think was going to happen if Viserys actually did go to Dragonstone? that he was going to suddenly be happy to see Daemon and forget the insult of taking over Dragonstone (a seat that represents the Targaryen ruling power and that belongs to Rhaenyra now that she is heir) AND stealing a dragon's egg (basically a nuke) just for shits and giggles, just to play a game... Both Rhaenyra and Viserys were rightfully pissed, so how does that little maneuver serves to mend the relationship between them? It only continues to create rift between him and Viserys because it makes the king think and believe that Daemon quite simply has no respect for him and his authority, as a big brother or worse, as a King... So it's like: "Ok, you stole the egg and got their attention... now what?"

    Daemon is a badass. He's a great fighter, and a smart leader. The one thing he cares about, more than anything, is his family. He takes the egg for one reason, to make his brother react. The King has been idle for too long, do something. Instead he gets the suckup, the backstabber of the realm, Otto. Even the kingsguard can't believe how stupid Otto is being when talking to Daemon. Then Rhaenyra shows up. Daemons dragon doesn't do anything, because he knows she and her dragon are no danger to Daemon, so he calls out a greeting and that's it. After all this, the king remains idle, but his niece, someone he already cares for deeply shows up and says "you'll have to kill me". That hurts him, and so he pulls back and gives her the egg.

    • @Alewaxon
      @Alewaxon Год назад +2

      While all of that can be true, let's not glorify Daemon's actions... This is an incredibly petty and childish thing to do, Otto isn't wrong about that... For the purpose of getting the attention of the king he is willing to put lives at risk; the lives of his men, of the people living in Dragonstone, of his companion, of the members of the kings guard that have nothing to do with Daemon's and Otto's conflict of his family drama, etc... This also shows a lack of maturity and incredible recklessness that makes him quite a terrible leader, not a "smart one" or a "good one", given how ready he is to throw away the lives of everybody else around him... Even when Otto warned him, quite correctly so, that him taking Dragonstone by force and him choosing violence against the kings envois would mean declaring an open conflict against the king, his answer was quite simply "Wonderful"... Like Mysaria said, he is not only playing games with his own life, he is playing with the lives of others that don't have the same power as him

    Daemon has always been an interesting character in this show. What corleys says at the end “we are the realms second sons” was such nice detail to add because that’s essentially how I view daemon. He’s the youngest while his brother is king. We see it in the last ep that daemon says “I would protect you”. It’s that idea where as an older sibling you always feel the need to look out for the youngest to the point where it would feel like the younger can never outgrow your shadow. A lot of daemons actions we see later in the show is the typical “let me do someone for my own for once so I can prove to you that I’m more that just your younger brother”. Obviously daemon is more than that but that’s the 1st detail I picked up on.
    Daemon definitely cares for his family for sure, why do all this if you didn’t want more attention from your family?😅 (typical younger brother)

    I think the shots of Dragonstone were my favorite parts of this episode. It was really well done, and really set the mood in a way that the depictions of Dragonstone in the later parts of GoT didn't for me.
    The intro is also pretty well done I think, it's showing the bloodline of the Targaryens from Aegon the Conqueror to the time of the episode, and it seems to be overlaid on the model of Valyria that Viserys is building. The different sigils are the people in the bloodline, and there are important scenes in the story stylized in the background
    I really love the way that they've adapted the material for this show. One thing that really irritated me about the original GoT adaptation was how little they thought their audience would be able to pay attention and remember things. For example - names. They changed the character of Asha Greyjoy (great character, one of my favorites from the books) to be Yara Greyjoy for the show, because they didn't think the viewer would be able to differentiate the name Asha from the character of Osha, the wildling woman totally unrelated to the Iron Islands plotlines who disappears for several seasons and then anticlimactically meets her end.
    But in this show, they keep characters with similar names and they have them interact, which does confuse people, but they go ahead with it, like Rhaenyra and Rhaenys having their great convo this episode.
    Glad you're reacting to this one, I had such low expectations for it after the end of GoT. I didn't even plan on watching. My wife convinced me to watch it, and not only was it one of my favorite shows for 2022, but it reinvigorated my love for the world of Ice and Fire.

    In the book the king eventually dies because he got really overweight but in the show the decided to give him a disease. It is not a typical case of it but there are signs that it is leprosy. It takes a long time to kill and the fact he does not always notice his wounds and they don't really heal follows the pattern. I think it starts with numbness and loss of sensation. The Christian king of Jerusalem Baldwin was diagnosed as a teen when he was repeatedly pinched and did not feel it.

    One of the hardest things to do is let people just watch this show and not try to explain all of the history and relations behind everything. The books are written from points of view so some of what we read is not correct. The shows have also taken different tact and storylines but still follow the general premise. This first season of HoD is all setup for the story they want to tell. This is all about the civil war of the Targaryen house. We know how it ends because of GoT we just don't know the details. This is basically pick your side and hold on.

    If you look closely (or even not so closely) at the scene between Viserys and young Laena Velaryon, you'll see that Viserys looks very uncomfortable and wants not to be walking alongside this little cousin and seriously considering her as a bride. Laena is 12, also apparently somewhat small for her age; though she must have passed through puberty to be eligible for marriage. Viserys sighs at least twice, and only forces a smile or two so as not to offend the child. Laena is seriously cute, smart, poised, and the perfect political match; but she's a little girl and Viserys is no pedophile; he cannot imagine marrying her, even if they can put off the consummation clause for another two years. Meanwhile, Viserys has an emotionally warm and comfortable relationship with the pretty Alicent Hightower, who, though only three years older than little Laena, has a mature enough body that Viserys can imagine her consummating a marriage without horror, plus enduring a pregnancies and childbirth without dying and also delivering a healthy son or two. He is probably already physically attracted to Alicent and feeling a bit guilty about it, which is why he commanded her not to speak of their meetings to Rhaenyra.
    Sadly, Laena would have been a good match for Viserys - if he had seen her in a few years, not as a perky child.

    Don't blame this show for the shocking age differences of the characters. This was not unusual in real life history. If you've seen Braveheart, it portrays an adult Princess Isabells of France having an affair with a character, while in reality she was only 3 years old at the time, yet still bethrothed with a prince who was quite older than her. That's right. Little Isabella was promised to someone before she started walking! King William III of the Netherlands was 41 years older than his wife Queen Emma when they married in 1879. You will hear the characters talking about marriage as a duty of a royal, and it was seen that way, so royals would make these pairings to gain or hold onto power. This was also not limited to royalty. Bachelor President Grover Cleveland of the USA married 21 year old Frances Cleveland in the White House. She was only 27 years younger than he.
    In many ways, Game of Thrones portrays history quite accurately....except maybe for the dragons.
    By the way, in the history, Allicent had been around the court for many years. When Vicerys' father, Jaehaerys was a very elderly king, Allicent stayed with him and helped him in his final days. Her kindness to his father was likely on Vicerys' mind, and I'm sure that Allicent's father saw the value of placing his daughter near the elderly King in the hope that it would eventually lead to a powerful marriage for his house.
    Finally, yes... All of the King's wounds were caused by the Iron throne. Yes. The King's throne is killing him. Not that it's meant as symbolism or anything. 😉 As for his treatment, all he has to rely on is the maesters. They have all of the medical knowledge that exists in Westeros, however, they, too have their own opinions regarding who should be on the Iron Throne. If their treatments are not helping is is because they don't know how to cure him or because they don't want to cure him?

    Ser Criston Cole is the son of a steward - far too low born to marry even a high lord's daughter, much less a princess. So that was never going to happen.
    Spoilers for the original GOT series and ASOIF:
    I don't remember if they showed it on the GOT TV show, but in a Song of Ice and Fire at one point someone mentions to Cersei and several other advisors that Peytr Baelish offered himself as a potential groom for Sansa Stark and they all laughed at the very idea - he was a lord with a small holding and sat on the Small Council, but he was considered far too lowborn to marry the woman they considered the heir to Winterfell. He was only considered a viable match for Lysa Arryn because she wasn't actually Lady of the Vale - she was only a regent for her son. She herself was a widow who was unlikely to bear more children and would inherit nothing in her own right. That, and Cersei was delusional enough to think that Peytr was somehow loyal to her and therefore she could control the Vale through him.

  • @daniellylima5568

    Rhaenyra is now the heir to the Iron Throne and no one on the council respects her and just look at the scene, Otto cut Rhaenyra off when she was speaking and Viserys didn't do anything in that situation. If it was Daemon he's already shutting everyone up, mainly from Otto, in the scene with Rhaenys it's Rhaenyra, everything Rhaenys said to Rhaenyra is true, Rhaenyra is heir to the iron throne and yet she continues to give them wine, but the truth is she is participating in the council, but as Rhaenys Said they won't want a woman
    Viserys shouldn't have married Alicent he made a wrong choice and now there will be consequences for his choice, Viserys should have married Laena in the book she is At least Rhaenyra's age unlike in the series they put a child I don't know why they did that Probably to be more controversial because it's a child, but anyway he should have chosen Laena and not Alicent and you'll realize that his choice was a mistake when you watch the rest of the episodes.
