The transfers they've been getting have been duds. Hopefully they stick around another year and the adds of Hudson and Ross actually help him.
@@bradishler5967 they've already snagged 3-4 portal WRs. my biggest gripe with franklin is him not being able to keep the best pass catching talent in state. even before NIL

You dont see it on TV but EVERY game he'll have a WR WIDE OPEN various times in the game and just not throw. Drew has all the talent in the world, probably best arm talent in CFB. But he does needs to make quicker decisions and not play so conservative.
I’m a die hard PSU fan and that’s one of my biggest gripes with him, sometimes he just holds onto the ball a touch too long. It seems to especially happen in clean pockets. When he has quick pressure his decisiveness usually kicks in and he unleashes a rocket
I've been beating this drum. Sometimes you really DO see it on TV when they are running replays saying "nobody is open" with footage rolling showing people open. Then some people say it's a problem with the wideouts. Drew has great talent and heart, but he has room for improvement with reads, timing, and some confidence.
Idk about this observation. Outside of Tyler Warren, Drew allar has nobody to throw to. Omari Evans sort of came on at the end of the year, but he’s not a WR1 by any stretch. The rest of the WR room just isn’t that good, and that includes the fan favorite Julian Fleming. Allar has all the tools. Look what Saquan Barkley is doing with a real offensive line this year. Imagine Drew allar with some good QB coaching and an elite wide receiver.

Those three TD passes showing spot on touch plus throwing a TD pass 57 yards in the air on a line drive against Purdue that is all scouts need to see the rest is coachable. He has the strongest arm on the planet includes the NFL
As a penn state fan, i hope you are right, but i believe he is just one of many. I truly like that kid from Arizona State, a freshman. He played a great game and had a great season. He will also be a star in the coming years and at the next level if he stays healthy.
we only had a "hot" route on probably 2 plays they blitzed, he didn't have anywhere to go with the ball on just about all of the blitzes due to the routes being ran
I think he a great pocket passer. All 3 TDs against Boise were when he had a pocket and set his feet. Where he needs to improve is on check downs and screens, that is, improve his touch. His accuracy when on the run or pressured diminishes. Super talent. Great leader. Just needs more refinement with one more year of college. The sky is the limit for him.
I was at the Fiesta Bowl. Allar s two best passes were in the 3rd quarter and both could have been touchdowns if the receivers would have held onto the ball. (Evans and Wallace). Both were placed on the receivers hands in very tight windows. The ball could have not been placed in the receiver’s hands any better.
Holding onto the ball is more common than you think among college QBs. With that said, it will be coached and worked on at the next level in the NFL. Obviously, the NFL is much faster than what he is experiencing right now. He'll simply have to adjust to the speed, because honestly that is all he'll need to do at the next level. I have said before about this kid. His footwork, and his mechanics are elite for the college QB, no one is even close. The way he drops his hips in the pocket and makes the reads. His release will likely need work only because the NFL ball is larger, so that will take some time adjusting too. Obviously, he has a strong arm, so everything else really matters. I haven't seen a QB with his mechanics at this stage of their collegiate career in a very long time, since Andrew Luck. I truly believe he is that level of QB.
Right after the 2024 draft, when everyone had them ranked as day 2 guys at best, I told everyone that would listen that Cam Hart & Drew Allar would be the best NFL QB prospects this year. When everyone comped Maye to Herbert I said Allar was way closer to Herbert. Allar and Singleton getting slept on. We have our QB but I'd love to add Carter, Warren or Singleton to the Commanders.
I think Allar is a very prototypical NFL Quarterback. He has the size, makes very good reads, has good decision making skills and is fast enough to get a few yards here and there. My only issue is that he can make some throws so perfectly and then fling a few off mark. When he does it, I wonder if I'm watching a different person. I agree with your take. Most if his sketch passes are when his feet are not settled. Understandable though...
I agree with some of your assessment. But he does like play like this against OSU and MICH. In other words, he struggles mightily against elite defenses. Boise State is a average defense playing in a below average conference. NFL defenses do not mirror Boise State, Kent State, Purdue, etc...
