There's a reason for that that's not talked about much. While Penn state is a consistent top ranked program, Franklin's recruiting has actually been quite underwhelming. Penn state has had the 15th best recruiting class for 3 consecutive seasons, under far less achieving programs. I've watched every game and their offensive play calling is terrible as well. A far cry from the Barkley,McSorely, Godwin, Gesiki, Miles Sanders team.
@@dominicprovenzano7669 they are getting better. Nobody is getting a top 5 recruiting class if you arent atleast a steady top 10 team, even with NIL. I think they are on the right track. Like 75% of CFB is just how well you can recruit.

I was in the Blue Band this year. Seeing the blocked kick in real time, being in that stadium, on the field, getting stuck in the stands after the fans rushed. Man, the energy was electric. One of my favorite memories of all time
I was a PSU student at the time, and in the student section with my roommates and friends. It was cold and wet and miserable, if they made that field goal, the last 5 minutes would have been depressing and uncomfortable, but instead it turned into one of the best memories of my entire life. It's probably why I didn't pay any attention to is as a Cubs fan. Shame I had to miss that on TV. I've seen it plenty of times since. A bit of extra context was that the last time PSU hosted OSU, in 2014, PSU lost in overtime after referees upheld an incomplete interception (the replay tech failed and they weren’t allowed to look at the scoreboard showing an obvious drop) and a field goal after the play clock hit 0 for multiple seconds. OSU already had a loss and would likely have not made the playoff or won a national championship without those reffing mistakes at Penn State. This game doesn't get much love because it doesn't deserve any. Penn State won this game and eventually the Big 10 but that wasn't enough to earn a playoff spot. The playoff committee viewed this as a quality loss for Ohio State and it earned them a playoff spot.

I remember reading the entire report from the investigation on the Sandusky scandal. Its justifications for placing blame on Paterno were, to be kind, 'thin'. I thought then, and still do, that the real job of the investigation was to find a scapegoat to absolve the administration of blame or liability. If they had thought Paterno was capable of coaching at a high level for another decade they would have found a different scapegoat even if there was clear evidence he'd been criminally negligent, but because he was likely going to retire soon anyway he became the perfect scapegoat _because_ of his high profile and icon status. How much blame Paterno _actually_ deserved to shoulder I still don't know, and given that he's now dead and the main evidence used in the report to demonstrate his culpability was extremely ambiguous, I doubt I ever will.
