- The Hoosiers have a dilemma. A standard PAT kick would force a second overtime and the game would continue for as long as needed. But Indiana is nothing if not self-aware. This moment is insane, it shouldn’t be happening. Penn State is a playoff contender, and while they’re stunned and confused and down a blue-chip defender, IU is fighting far above their weight class. The odds are against pulling off the upset if the Hoosiers hand the ball back to the favorite. The Hoosiers are on the cusp of a win the caliber of which their program hasn’t seen in any of these players’ lives.
That’s why Indiana’s lined up for two points and the win - or the loss. It’s gotta be now, and it’s gotta be the good player who came to a horrible program, and against all odds, became great. Tonight he could become a star.
Besides, it’s 2020. Nothing makes sense right now. Why couldn’t Indiana beat Penn State at football?

You didn’t rewind the 10 minute, excruciating video review to see whether the ball hit out of bounds or the pylon first.
This was my first time seeing this play and my initial impression was that he looked way short. I guess that wasn't the case if it held up under review? Was the video review conclusive that he scored or was it too close to call either way so they stuck with the on-field ruling?

@@PFBM86if they had called him down there’s no way it would’ve been overturned. Every PSU fan I know is still salty over this game. This game and the Minnesota loss a few years ago cemented James Franklin as the Mike Tomlin of college football.

I was a senior at IU during 2020-21, the effect that this win and season had on the program, along with the insane fall off that followed needs studied
the program is historically bad,there isnt much to it imo.
It's a pretty simple answer, very talented coordinators with a coach that was only good for vibes

I am getting teary-eyed. I remember getting to sit with my family for first time since the Pandemic. We watched the game for a brief moment everything felt a little normal.

I am once against asking to do a rewind of some sorts for 2009 Cincinnati bearcats, awesome way to end their season and a literal second put back on the clock (in the Texas v Nebraska game) from being in the Natty. Doesn’t get talked about at all how close they were. The program basically was almost squashed in the early 90’s after an embarrassing loss to Penn State. Then they had a meteoric rise to relevance and have been back to it since i.e only G5 school to make the 4 team CFP
This game went nuts, as an IU student they had us locked inside our on campus apartments that year, when we won everyone went nuts around campus. Penix single handedly gave life to our football team. Magical couple of years.
As a Penn State fan the funniest part is Indiana’s head coach Tom Allen is now our defensive coordinator

During the review I had convinced myself it would be overturned. Not because I thought it was short, but solely because good things dont happen to IU football. When the call stood it was one of the most joyous feelings of relief in my life. Will never forget it.

As a Hoosiers fan, I had to do a double take when I saw this in my feed. WE'RE getting a football rewind video??? This was my freshman year and the first ever IU football game I ever watched. Watched it in the dorm with a group of friends (yeah, I know we weren't supposed to be doing that) and we were screaming up the whole dorm that day.

2020s IU was probably their best team in at least two generations and it's a shame the Big Ten didn't allow them to go to the conference championship that year. I was pulling for the Hoosiers that year.
I root for one of Indianas rivals, Michigan State. I've always found our rivalry to be rather unique, as I don't see hatred or vitriol between the two schools/fanbases. Indiana has some classy fans.

So glad someone is finally talking about IU's 2020 season! If the big ten had the balls to let IU go to the conference final over OSU (who didn't even play all their games bc covid), then they probably wouldn't have Cignetti as a coach this year.

Well it doesn’t matter cause OSU BEAT IU, trounced Clemson and still got to the natty , meanwhile IU didn’t even win their bowl game vs Ole Miss, just stop it.

@@cranjismcbasketball1638 exactly; pure legacy move, and knowing that the cfp wouldn't let Indiana in based on name alone; they felt that if their conference title game was Indiana vs Northwestern, they'd have no chance because name would get in, not game. The Big Ten didn't even pretend to hide their bias, and showed their whole ass.

Bruh!!! I was at IU from ‘09-13. I remember the 83-point Wisconsin game in ‘10 and the loss to North Texas in ‘11. And the multiple collapses we had against Iowa and Michigan during those years.
Needless to say, I was jumping for joy on the back of my truck when Penix scored that 2-point conversion!!! Lol

Indiana seems like my medical school Alma mater Kentucky (UKCM 1992). Football games gave us a place to gather on fall afternoons to discuss how good the basketball team was going to be.
I may be an Illinois alum, but I'm so happy that my IU sister got to experience this. I just wish she could've stormed the field afterward.

To comment on how miserable IU Football was:
I was a freshman attending IU in 2014. We upset #18 seeded Missouri ON the road in Week 3 and i was thinking B-Town was going to be popping that night after a HUGE win. Going around campus and onto Kirkwood Ave, there was almost no fanfare regarding the upset and at that moment, i finally realized that IU was solely a basketball town and our football program was basically treated like a D-2 program
I attended all 6 home games that year, our biggest attended game was homecoming against a great Michigan State team and the staidum wasn't even 3/4s of the way full
Its sad to think with the 'recent success' (4 bowl game appearances in the last 10 years), we havent won a bowl game since the 1991 Copper Bowl
Soccer (the "other" football) is IU's best sport. Eight national titles (second overall behind Saint Louis), runner up three times in the last seven years, twenty-two Final Fours (most all-time in D-1), and 36 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. That's the "football" to focus on for Hoosiers fans. Swimming is usually good, too.
I’m glad the culture has maybe shifted, I was a freshman and even with covid, kirkwood, the stadium, and the rest of campus were all buzzing after this.

I neglected to mention on the post the week before IU upset Missouri, they had lost to a MAC team in Bowling Green, but the Falcons were red hot during that timeframe. Biggest thing is they need to be able to land punches without stumbling
The big thing is trying to reinvent the image of the program and to have Northwestern overtake them with regards to the all-time loss record.

This was such an insane game. the total was 61 or 62 and the Over was completely dead. Needed about 10 different things to happen which did in that 4th Q and OT. Insane win backing the over.

Idk bit I’ll tell you what, I’ve never seen a more ballsy call than when Washington went for it on 4th down last season against Washington St, in their own territory, I mean if they didn’t convert , that was their entire season down the drain , and they could have easily played it conservative and still have a good chance to win, but they knew the vibe of the game and going for it was the call , but man … the balls to make that call …. Coach must of had all the trust in the world in this QB , cause I was in awe. Only reason I was watching the game was cause I hit a $700 parlay on that game , I’m glad I witnessed that, never saw a play call that aggressive

Just one of the many inexcusable losses for this Penn State program under Franklin. There have been far, far too many of these over the years. That season wasn’t the best, but this loss pretty much spiraled our season out of control.
