Both Crown Prince Rudolf, as well as (later) Archduke Franz Ferdinand knew that the Austrian/
    Austrian-Hungarian Empire was unsustainable.

We can only wonder what Franz Ferdinand would have done had he survived. Rudolf's suicide can be blamed on Franz Joseph. Franz Ferdinand's assassination was blamed on Gavrillo Princip, which is what started World War I.

Rudolf's personality was similar to his
mother's personality. That is, incompatible with what was required of an Austrian
royal in the late 1800's/early 1900's.

The best part was watching that snivelling bureaucrat's face when he realized whom he was mouthing off to. After his impolite behaviour with the older gentleman, he deserved a little humiliation.

For sure. Too bad he was hauled off by the police before the Archduke arrived. Not much has changed with corrupt arrogant bureaucrats in the last 100+ years, has it?

Here we do not have Czhechs, Croats, Slovaks or Hungarians, only loyal subjects of the Emperor. What a universal and inclusive state it was compared with other states that came in the future after fall of Austria.

Franz Joseph was unkind to not only those who were not like him, but even those who were members of his family. There is a school of thought that suggests that it was the Emperor's indifference that led to Rudolf's suicide.

@@michaels.starnes194 There is a difference between classes being useless and all classes being so expensive that young people choose not to study or are driven into debt, a system that is so flawed at its core that countless writings precisely document the issue in all its details. Perhaps Mr. Starnes will learn that even in his undoubtedly higher age than mine wisdom doesn't magically fall from the sky but is learned either through painful or not so painful lessons but for someone who should know better you disappoint yourself more than anyone else. Perhaps the Mr. will also excuse my rude words for I am from the old continent overseas but last time I looked into the matter, the US was a country that while wealthy, lacked any ability in major parts of its population to self reflection upon its economic system where the wealthy are taken care of because those who are already strong have little need for governmental protection and florish but the unfortunate masses have, despite the nation being so wealthy, felt very little change over the past years - devilish tongues would even say that the US is becoming more and more like an oligarchy. What an unfounded accusation I thought when I first heard this many years ago. As it turns out, it is not too far from the truth, is it now?
The most powerful nation on earth but it treats the majority of it's citiziens worse than most other more economically developed countries.
Perhaps I am wrong but most of the old-fashioned simple honest work doesn't pay the bills today anymore.
And the state provides funds to support the students but as mentioned before, the system is flawed. In the end, this ends up hurting the US far more than most other problems. Healthcare for instance - an amusing oversight isn't it? All men and women equal before the law but when it comes to their hospital bills, apparently all this constitutional talk really needs an NRA esque organization for better marketing so that those whiney peasants don't die off so easily whenever they happen to catch a cold in the gutter.
Summed up friend; next time you before you open your mouth so damn wide, think about what you actually know about the things you wish to shout into the world - otherwise there will be another European smart-ass nitpicking all over your uneducated nonsense again.
