    I've been running an s13 SR20DET in my auto-x Datsun 510 that's been making a reliable 374 whp on e85 for nearly a decade. The bottom end is all stock rebuild with a Greddy oil pan. The high port head was decked, ports are polished and matched to manis, stock guides valves, and retainers with mild Tomei cams and two stage springs. 22psi from a GT-X2867R on a log mani. 50K + miles on it and it's running as strong as the day we fired it up. I'm an SR20 fanboy and proud of it.

    • @Datsun510zen
      @Datsun510zen 7 месяцев назад

      @@joseg.4626 Really depends on what your power goals are and how it'll be used. I'm not making a ridiculous amount of HP so new stock replacement rods and pistons with King bearings are more than enough handle it. Also had the crank magnifuxed rebalanced. For track use, it's important to have a large capacity oil pan with internal trapdoor surge tank for the pickup. That said, Eagle rods and pistons are a worthy upgrade for up wards of 500+ HP.

    • @Datsun510zen
      @Datsun510zen 2 месяца назад

      @@matden5595 Wasted boost, how so? Remember, that 374 wasn't crank hp, but rwhp. So add 15% drivetrain loss. My SR made that with 195 r15 street tires on a DynoTech chassis rig, so add another 5% slippage loss. In all reality, it's making upwards of 450 bhp on mild cams and a safe e85 tune with WO timing at 9 degrees BTDC. In that little sub 2,000 lb car, the only thing wasted is having more power than can be put to the ground. No sense in pushing it for bragging rights.

    Honestly to build a bulletproof SR20DET you should focus doing the dual valve guide conversion even tomei solid lifters, using beehive valve springs not dual spring, using a SR20VE oil pump and getting the block oil galleries grooved.
    I wouldn’t recommend using the rocker arm stoppers. They cause damage still.
    If you have the supporting mods like fmic, 1000cc injectors, 3 inch exhaust, turbo, wastegate, poncams, ecu ect you’ll have a nice 400HP engine.
    Or just fit a SR20VE head and you’ll have 500HP.

      Sitting on or bouncing off the limiter usually drops the rocker arms on SRs, bee r limiter or ecu limiting the rpm works well, rocker arms are also useless as they can get the rocker arm stuck and destroy your cam and head, but you could also get an sr20ve head that avoids all this

    While I don't have an SR20 build in my immediate future, I always enjoy the build tricks and fine engineering bits all the same. Modern hot-rodding!
    Out of curiosity, I was watching a sim on swirl induction the other day and while it looks impressive in the video, to me I don't feel there's enough time to really do anything with it in the milliseconds the charge air is entering, makes the turn and begins compression in the cylinder. I guess in the grand scheme of percentages, you might gain a partial percent in flow volume in the window the valves open. Any thoughts?
    Add: Man, I haven't heard Jim Wolf's name in Forever! We had a long dialogue of going back and forth on the idea of turbocharging the single cam KA24 back in the early 2000s. That's bringing back fond memories!

    How can I fix a crossover problem on TODA Racing 264° 10.5mm lift camshafts
    intake open BTDC= -4°
    Intake close ABDC= 50°
    Cam top center = 117°
    Effective angle = 226°
    Exhaust open BBDC = 52°
    Exhaust close ATDC = -6°
    Cam top center = 119°
    Effective angle = 226°
    crossing = AOA+RFE= 10°
    Is it possible to have these crossing angles on adjustable sprockets other than those of TODA, or is it absolutely necessary to have the adjustable sprockets of TODA Racing?
    Another question: what does Effective angle mean?
    Can these camshafts work with TOMEI solid pivots, in a sr20de cylinder head?
    Watching your video, I got to know a lot about the SR20's technology
    It's really great!!
    Kind regards

      You can use any adjustable sprockets but to set cam timing I recommend you study the proper way to do it with a dial indicator. The effective angle is probably jinglish for the duration at some easy to measure lift, probably 1mm. As far as working with solid lash adjusters, it depends if the cams clearance ramps were designed to work with them. That question is best asked to Tomei.

      @@motoiq The VE “VVL” head is different. I would love to hear your breakdown on modifying the VE head. Lots of people also use the VE head on RWD blocks for s-chassis etc.

    Why doesn't anyone use roller rockers from a USDM G20 kind of engine? Seems like all the parts bolt in and are available including JWT cams.

    • @motoiq
      @motoiq  26 дней назад

      Not a good selection of cams. Rollers need an inverted flank profile and it's hard to grind anything more than a mild profile with the space given.
