Just wanted to say I really liked the way Colbert handled Garfield's answer on his grief. Looked him in the eyes, thanked him for sharing, held his hand with both his own. And that's enough, because the pain they feel is their own, and you are not there to say you know it, because you don't. You only have to show that you are listening, that you are there for them. Brilliant.

    • @Adriana-eu6ty

The conversations end, but your father is woven into the fibres of your being, so you can't lose him. Even when his influence on you ripples out to others around you. And then in turn, to those people who pass on some of his essence to effect more people, and so on... The emptiness of loss of the relationship is the contrasting shadow that highlights all those bright moments that you have gained in your years of knowing him. And those memories, his love for you, are yours to keep; the smile through your tears for those personal precious moments. Even as the powerful waves of grief lessen, you can smile that secret smile of knowing, with gratitude for such a man, such a father, as part of your life, and part of who you are.

He had me crying because I think I my beautiful mother who has read the Bible twice in her life. When she started getting to the point she knew she wouldn't be here to many years ahead was when she read the Bible a second time. She knew every word and meaning in the Bible with a 6th grade education and I can hardly pronounce many of words and the understanding with a full course education. My grandfather taught himself how to read and studied the Bible and taught this to his kids. He never went to school and was a brilliant person in reading and writing. He read many different books on religion and listened to tapes of a well known person who studied the Bible. I wish my grandfather were here to speak to people about what he learned because we would all believe in God and know he really exist. I believe Andrew is a Christian and by this his pain from losing his mother gives him hope that he will see her again in God's time to call us home.

I lost a beloved pet of almost 16 years, and I fight daily to remember the good times and not cry. It's not the passing that is bad, but it's the missing her daily that is what hurts. I've done my best to move forward, but it's hard -- especially at the first. So, go easy on yourself. It's really a "tough road" if you were close, as I was with my Dad. He wasn't the best man that ever lived, but he did the best that he could with what he had. So, you are not alone. One of best things that helped me was going to some grief therapy get-togethers and doing some individual counseling. It sounds weird, but it really, really helped me process it. So, I hope you are moving forward and not being consumed by grief, as I was at the first. So, if you want to chat about it, I'll reply. Know people care about your loss, even if they don't say it ... So, you're not alone.

I'm sorry for your loss. Too lost my dad last to covid. Grief is real and hard but one thing g I stick to in these hard times is take one day at a time. To take the time to grief..grief is normal. Most importantly is to keep the memories of your father pondered in your ❤ heart. Like the bible says there is a time for everything. A time to laugh ,a time to cry.

I didn't know he lost his mother. What a wonderful expression he's found in saying that grief is the unexpressed love that stays behind.

i have never seen a 'celebrity' as honest and real and raw as Andrew Garfield...the way he isn't afraid to show his raw emotions and feelings, be it happiness, astonishment, pain or deep-philosophical thoughts, is inspiring... he inspires people to always be real no matter where you are... this man is something else...

Ended up shedding a few tears at this. Obviously this is still very raw for Andrew but he has such an articulate way of describing his grief. I'm sure his mother was very proud of him, and I really hope he gets all the recognition he deserves for this film.

I can’t handle my tears when a grown man cries. But I need to find a man that clearly loves his mom like that. It’s beautiful!

Andrew has a real heart and it shines through in all of his roles. I can’t speak for the deceased but I can say with confidence his mom must be proud of him and was blessed to have a family like theirs.

Man the way Andrew said in his interview with Stephen Colbert: “Jon and my Mother were both artists and they were warriors of art and they knew the power of leaving the world in a slightly more beautiful state than when they found it” makes this video hit even more in the feels

I told my Mom every time I spoke with her how much I love her. I guess I still have lots of unexpressed love because I cry every time her name comes up. Love you Mom and thank you Andrew Garfield for this beautiful take on grief!
