I thought the incredibly 90's ad for Tetris 2 where everyone explodes was as 90's as ads for a puzzle game could be... then you hit me with the "Jerry Springer" parody ad. Truly, the past is a foreign country.
It's a bit hard for me to decide which specific version of Tetris would be my favorite, but I do love the charm of the Puyo Puyo Tetris titles. Tetris 99 is also a lot of fun, and I love Tetris Plus on PSone
QOTD: gotta give it to The Grand Master 2+! at least if you wanted a home version of that back in the day, the disney licensed version was also developed by the folks at ARIKA!
I debated this. I included it because it has Tetris in the name and Electronic Gaming Monthly considers it part of the Tetris franchise. I did not include other Panel de Pon entries, like Pokemon Puzzle League.
The 2 player "Tetris Battle Gaiden" for the Super Nintendo is a really great variation of Tetris. Unfortunately, it never left Japan. It's really fun to play against a friend.
QotD: those cheap LCD block handhelds. You never appreciate Tetris like you do when the electricity goes out for a few days and there's still a good game that can run nearly forever on batteries. Plus, it also has versions of Quarth, Tank, and Frogger built in.
Dx means volume down. New systems also allowed wall climbing which put me off. Felt more broken overall and like an imperfect tetris game despite actually playing smoother than the game boy version because it's been upgraded to mbc1 with super mario land and many others. Game boy tetris, alleyway, bubble ghost, asteroids and a handful of other games were more basic than even sml. I patched korobeiniki into tetris dx and even that wasn't the same.
Yeah, never been much of a Tetris fan myself. Even though it did help my Auntie growing up. You see, her mum back when NES first came out said that you are not hooking that up to my TV. Then the diner she worked at got a Tetris game, and she got hooked on it. Upon finding out the NES would allow her to play it at home, she changed her mind. 😉😂🤣 But yeah, for me though, don't really have anything to answer it with.
@Savannah_Simpson I can see it, it's very graphical. Thanks for the reply. I liked the game boy stage and the one with the windmills and the pieces looked like gears. ⚙️
He turned out to be right, too. Nintendo barely supported the Super Scope, and the games released for it weren't that great. It's true with all of Nintendo's peripherals. None of them had much of a life after the first year or so.
I'm not crazy about any of the versions of Tetris represented here; I'm a casual who prefers the new SRS system for rotation and block order that exists in modern incarnations, as well as the hold function. I firmly believe they should bring back the puzzle mode with the professor from Tetris Plus, but under the new systems. Hold alone would make a huge difference for that game, given how many puzzles become so dependent on RNG giving you the right piece at the right time.
I'm a little surprised I haven't done an EGM Ranks Spider-Man episode yet, though I did cover the X-Men games, and some of those included team-ups with our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. With so many Spidey games, which would you want to see covered in a Review Crew episode?
My favorite is og gameboy because I love how lo-fi it is and it doesn't have a battery to eventually replace so my ancient cart works forever. Classic music, no broken wall climbing stuff, no hold or bag system to save you, just pure distilled tetris. Second is tetris 99 with dlc. Modern tetris with all of the fixings, will probably be on top until nintendo makes another tetris. I'll leave off saying that I despise tetris effect.
I'm pretty fond of Nintendo's NES Tetris. I can't say I remember what differentiates it from Tengen's, even though I saw videos on it. I do prefer the music, graphics, and presentation. I might prefer DX or DS if I ever play them, but sadly I have not. Tetris 2 is an interesting combination of Tetris with Dr. Mario, but nothing more than that. It lacks the simplicity that makes the original Tetris so compelling to master (not that I ever have). I think my girlfriend prefers GameBoy Tetris, as do most people. I also rather like Tetrisphere, but that's not really Tetris. Most of the pieces are not tetrads (tetrominos?). Tetris Attack is also definitely not Tetris.

Truly, the past is a foreign country.
I save the best for last to reward people for sticking through the full episode.

Qotd: Tetris Blast and the Super Tetris games on Snes.
I think it's awesome to see heritage Tetris released in a collection series, however imo, the defacto Tetris released with Tetris connected.
What about tetris effect connected do you prefer over any other version?
If you also like RPGs you should definitely add Flowstone Saga to this list. Great game with Tetris combat.

But...No.4 is not a Tetris Game!
It's Panel de Pon!
It's my favourite on this list 😂

I will never be able to live without Tetrisphere for some reason

Teri’s dx is my fav but I absolutely love Tetris Ds and Tetris attack as well

My favorites are the PSP Minis and CD-I versions
Tetris Effect is by far the best version of Tetris. Hard to go back to any other version.
How come?
@ I just love the vibes. The music and visuals make it so meditative and relaxing.
@Savannah_Simpson I can see it, it's very graphical. Thanks for the reply. I liked the game boy stage and the one with the windmills and the pieces looked like gears. ⚙️
I loved Tetris DS.
The guy who reviews the super scope 6 I kinda agree with

@@DefunctGames my thoughts exactly and it's funny just how many peripherals that have released over the years

Tetris Effect VR, then Tetris 99
1:28 OH NO
OH NOOO
Wonder what Review Crew thought of Spiderman games and what the ranking might be! 🤔👀😉

@ Good ol’ PS1, movie tie-ins and dealers choice!! 🕷️🕸️

Tetris 64 for Japan it had bio Tetris . If you know…you know.
interestingly the collection seems to include an awful lot of bomblis.

I won't be buying Tetris forever because no tetrisphere
With any luck, maybe it could be added later as DLC, like they've done with Atari 50?
I'm not a shill for DLC, but a free update is always welcome.
Lockjaw is better than Tetris
