Chevy Chase is so subtly hilarious in this movie. I love his wit. Another great early movie of his is Seems Like Old Times. He and Goldie Shawn have great on screen chemistry.
One of my favorite lines (not shown in this reaction) is after the fight at the Caddyshack Lou the Caddy manager say's "Hey you, pick up that blood". I have always thought that is just a funny line.
This was Dangerfield's first movie. He kept missing his que because he didn't know that when the director said action, he needed to start acting. Finally the director would just yell Rodney, do your thing. LOL
An interesting piece of trivia about this movie ... This is the first time Chevy Chase and Bill Murray had been in a show together since the 70's on an episode of Saturday Night Live ... during that episode of SNL, they literally got into a fist fight backstage and had to be broken up by other cast members ... when they made Caddy Shack, the director realized toward the end of filming that there was not a single scene where Chevy and Bill had been together ... so he had them write the scene of the two talking at Bill's place ... they both handled the scene professionally, even though they had last ended on an extremely bad note.

Brian D Murray was co-writer and the Murray kids were caddies when they were young. Also probably why the family was so large, as the Murrays are 9 kids.
James - I believe it's ten seconds from when you hit it until it reaches the hole. The reason the rule exists is because of a player named Don January (who won the PGA Championship in 1967). He hit a putt in the 1963 Phoenix Open that fell just short, but January argued the ball was still moving, albeit tremendously slowly, so by rule then, he wasn't allowed to play it. It took seven minutes for it to get figured out, and the ball never dropped. Finally, he had to play it, because they threatened to fine him if he didn't. The rule was changed after that. Apparently, it's still known as the "Don January Rule."
